Gday Folks

Have a 2020 RAV Cruiser Hybrid 2WD.

Car is covered by the Toyota 5 year warranty with an additional 2 year warranty, as long as I service with Toyota on time.

I want to fit a tow bar (for a bike carrier) and a light bar. 

Can someone tell me if I have non-genuine parts fitted, will that void the additional 2 years of warranty. I understand this will not void the standard warranty (under Australian consumer law). Local dealer states that I must buy genuine parts but can be fitted by anyone - not sure about this advice.

I would recommend that you email Toyota Australia Customer Service.

Definitely keep a record/copy of the email reply. Always handy to have documentation.

We asked the dealer when we bought this. He wasnt so fussed about roof racks but indicated Toyota needed to fit the towbar which we went along with.

A question here. Do you have a hybrid. In this case you will also need to have AWD to tow anything significant. NO hybrids can tow anything beyond maybe a tiny trailer with a dirt bike. Its not well publicised. The exception is the RAV4 AWD hybrid . I think its got something to do with the regen braking system. But if you ignore this it will void your warrantee and probably be dangerous. Unfortunately this towing with hybrids issue is not well publicised. Even the huge Camry hybrids cant tow.
