20 - 21 Prado Diesel 2.8 Auto - Revs high and not moving into 6th gear

Dec 20 Prado Diesel 2.8 Auto - 16,000 kms

When driving highway at above 90 km/h the gears appear not to move up ie sometimes revs up to 2000 rpm at 100km/h rather than what might usually be 1500 rpm.

On the motorway we seem to do 1700 rpm at 110 km/h.

The out come of this is of course higher fuel consumption and frustration.

Have mentioned to Toyota service but only get the feeling that to hard for them.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Is there any kind of manual shift mode for the auto?  Can you confirm what gear it's actually in?  Have you accidentally hit a "Sport Mode" button or the like?

The symptoms sound kinda like a torque converter that isn't locking up fully, or a transmission that has a lockout for top-gear/overdrive that won't engage unless certain conditions are met (like temperature, or an on/off button)

Thanks for coming back

the manual shift allows to lock gears down but will not allow you say "Go to 6th"

I believe 5th gear - as staying on 2000 Revs

no sport mode on Prado
