Hi guy’s I have a 2008 Tarago ultima with the 2gr-fe v6 engine… I changed original alternator to a replacement one DXA598… since changing it won’t start no spark to spark plugs all fuses are fine there is power at coil plug end injector pulse is there just wont start…anyone have any ideas on what could possibly do this from a simple alternator replacement I’m stumped 🤔

Hi Daryl, several things come to mind in this situation.

I'm assuming you purchased a new alternator ? Was this due to a non-charging situation and if so has the battery been compromised after the fact ? Have you tried jump starting it ?

Did you disconnect the battery before replacing the alternator ? Sometimes one can forget and accidently short the + cable to ground popping a fuse somewhere. Have you tested your fuses with a meter and not just a visual check ?

Another thing is, I checked the part number and apparently it's not the correct part for your particular vehicle. Repco search has revealed that it is infact the DXA-597 (not the 598) or the DXA-4006. Not sure of the specific difference but the search did mention that the 598 "doesn't fit the specified vehicle"

Perhaps you can take this up with your supplier if the problem persists.

This or this are what come up for your car.

I could also throw in a fuel supply issue too, but that could be co-incidental and more of a long shot. Work through the above first before moving onto other things I reckon.

Let us know what you find. We'd be really interested in the outcome.

Fingers crossed it's not a biggy.

All the best mate

Hi tony thanks for your reply mate I did a typo it is a DXA597 not 58 fat fingers lol… I think I’ve found the problem as the wiring harness to crank angle sensor runs under the alternator the red wire that runs to it has broke away… so I’m in the middle of getting it sorted had to undo the air cond pump from bracket to gain access… now I have to undo the sensor pull it out and sort the plug out… I didn't want to take it out but I can’t get the plug end off as there is no room to get your hands in …I will let you know how I go mate…
