2010 Hilux engine light issues - PLEASE HELP!

Recommended Posts

We own a 2010 Hilux, which is serviced regularly and has been extremely reliable since we bought it in late 2018. We live in a remote desert community approx. 300km west of Uluru, 1100km north west of Kalgoorlie. When we arrived back here after the recent school holiday, the engine light came on (and has stayed on) and there has been an almost complete lack of acceleration until we restart the engine, at which point power returns. We of course plan to take it for a service ASAP, but the nearest Toyota dealer is approx. 10 hours drive away (mostly on ungraded roads) and the nearest mechanic of any sort is approx. 4 hours drive away. We're worried about setting off for a service only to suffer a complete power loss and be stranded. Has anyone encountered this issue before in a similar scenario? And do you have any recommendations on how to approach this tricky situation?
