Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could offer some suggestions as to things to check whilst I wait for the second auto electrician appointment next week.

My 2013 Hilux SR5 (KUN26R) a week ago developed the following 3 electrical problems at the same time;

- When driving, the Head unit (radio etc) goes on and off, more so when going over rough road, but does this consistently on any journey

- Will not start on first crank when it's been sitting for some time. Always starts on second crank.

- Sometimes, the engine warning light and traction control light stay on after starting the vehicle. This happens say, 1 in 5 starts.

The battery has just been replaced and the car checked by the local auto electrician. They used their ODB II diagnosis tool and it shows no errors.

Prior to the battery being replaced, the ODBII tool reported a P0560 (low system voltage). This no longer comes up.

No errors come up when the above symptoms occur.

Any ideas of what to look for?

Thanks in advance.

What was the outcome of this?

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update to this. After another week or so, the head unit would not power on at all (as opposed to flickering on and off)

The problem was ultimately identified as a connector behind the steering wheel (behind and slightly underneath the dash) coming apart. The electrician believes the connector was not fully connected when assembled at the factory. He was able to reach it from underneath.

Leading up to this, before the loose connector was discovered (third visit to the electrician), I'd purchased another second-hand head unit and found it too did not power on. An aftermarket unit did not work either.

As such, performed some home electrical testing and found the voltage coming from loom to the stereo had less voltage (just over 12 V from. memory).

Ran a power cable from the battery to the unit, and this got the original unit working.

This suggested a problem relating to the loom cable. The voltage from battery was about 12.4 from memory.

Hopefully this will help someone.

Id say you are looking for a loose connection either it be power or earth
