I am looking at a 2012 Aurion sx6 Sportivo. Lovely car but the steering lacks feedback and feel to me. I really want to buy it but don't like the steering.

Is there any way of improving the feel? Different tyres or different power steering fluid etc?

Yeah they feel like a boat. Even with Pedders sports springs.

I did have success running 2 deg negative camber on the front using adjustable camber bolts, along with 235/45/18 kumho's. Was alot of fun around corners, but it came at the expense of loss of grip in a straight line and ruined the tyres with camber wear fairly quickly.

Thanks l bought the car anyway and love it. The Sx6 not too bad handling. Steering a bit vague but l am getting used to it. The engine is great. Feels close to my SSV and is definitely faster than my FG Falcon. Now l am trying to find out what headlight globes it takes. Projector h11 l think for low beam.

Check the owners manual to confirm the type of headlight globe. I have fitted STEDI H11 LED bulbs to my 2006 Aurion ATX back in May 2022. Now outlasted the 24 month warranty period and can recommend them. Good idea to message them with your vehicle details and VIN to confirm the fit for your vehicle.

@muso yep it's that lump over the front wheels, in front of in fact ! It's very noticeable especially when you hop out of a similarly sized 4 pot Camry which handles like a go-cart in comparison 🙄 Just drive the Aurion like an ol' fart & enjoy the EV like smoothness & quietness the 4 pot could only dream of 😃

A suspension/racing car builder I know once said to me you could make anything handle extremely well just by changing parts to suit. I guess a shedload of poly bushes, adjustable camber & castor bolts, fat sway bars as well as coilovers wouldn't go astray here . . .  not to mention $$$ It's a world car built for the masses, you can't please everyone.

Lower profile tyres (I'm thinking yours possibly already 45 series ?) & pumped to at least 40psi cold will help. Car livens up if in Sport mode. Not sure yours has this, depending on series.

ZZT86 mine is 2012 2nd gen Sportivo SX6. I don't think it has sport mode suspension though. Great car though, the one thing l do miss that my FG Falcon and the SSV has is a digital speedo in the centre window between the gauges. It's apparently an ex cop car from Qld. Wonder if there is a "police mode" available in the cluster?

Campbeam thanks for the link 🙂 did you replace both the low and high beam globes? Low beam is projector type on mine.

I've been using one of these for the last 3 years. Bit hard to see sometimes in full sun, but it's one of the best purchases I've ever made https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-gps-heads-up-display/621741.html

As campbeam mentioned, the stedi low beams are great!! I haven't determined if I'm blinding other drivers yet, but they certainly are bright & they have a visible cut off point

I only replaced the low beam globes. Residing Brisbane Southside and most of my driving is on well lit urban streets and major roads.

Rarely do I use high beam and on those few occasions, it is more than adequate particularly at 80kph.

Different matter if I was living in a country town and regularly doing night driving. As another Forum member has done, upgrading the high beam bulbs and/or fitting a light bar would be a priority need.

Definitely agree about the visible cut off point which is quite noticeable when lighting up a wall/fence at close distance e.g. urban T intersection.

I am certainly thinking that my headlights [possibly low] could do with an adjustment but then I notice a reflection off the road sign well in the distance.

Your photo is a good benchmark and I noted that there is no overhead street lighting which well demonstrates the range.

Had a set of tyres that were same day steering responce. what i put on now are real good responce.

Sometimes you just need to add more PSI and such can make all the difference. so much weight over the front wheels, I run 40 PSI to 45 and the rear around 28 to 32 PSI, if you put to much PSI in the rear the tail can come out on you in the wet, so i have found 28 fine and 32 on a trip with boot full and 2 people in the back.

Yes i have hosed of V6 Commodores and XR6 Falcons who wanted a run, and that was on 91 octane easy, on E10 94 octane it goes much better ! they would get a shock. not that i am against them cars with 6sp auto's, they go well.

The Aurion is a great long distance driving car and you can see out of it better than the Holden VE and Falcon.

I like the Falcon 4.0L for it's torque and it's 6sp auto is the best, then the Aurion Auto and Holden 6sp auto comes 3rd.

Driving on Dirt roads the Holden and Falcon are way better than the Aurion by far.
