Hi, Folks.

We recently purchased a 2022 Toyota Kluger Grande with a "mere" 36K on the clock.

This was after more than a year of looking around and being unimpressed with ALL the

new vehicles we saw EXCEPT for a 2024 Kluger Grande and a 2025 X-Trail TI-L. But then

we didn't like the hybrid power train of the Kluger and likewise the 4-cylinder only motor

of the X-Trail. So we finally settled on the V6 Kluger Grande, which we basically just

stumbled over in the local area. Now we're as 😁 as Larry at the power of the car and that

it takes just regular unleaded petrol 👍

So, if you see a Galena Blue Kluger scooting about with me in it, give us a wave 🖐️

Finally, please call me Am.

Your choice of the V6 is exemplary. Good choice. The driving experience of the V6 is so much better than the hum of a hybrid or the harshness of a four cylinder.

I suspect your V6 is the 2GR-FKS right ? It uses 0W-20 oil right ?

I hope it gives you many years of good service. Just keep up the maintenance and you'll be fine. Do regular oil changes and don't follow the stupid log book oil change schedule. It is too long. Try and aim for between 5 and 8K because that oil is so thin it may as well be sewing machine oil. It will degrade faster than say, 5W-30 or 5W-40.

The reason for such thin oil is because of the tighter manufacturing tolerances in the engine and to achieve more efficiency, but please remember to change the oil regularly. Don't wait for Toyota to tell you.

Thanks for your comprehensive info, Tony. I don't know which engine it is but I'll check it out.

Do you think it's worth changing to the heavier oil? Wat do you think of 10000 Km oil changes if

it's got the 0W-20 oil?

I sure do agree with your "hybrid" and 4-cyl opinions. That's what I found when taking last year's

RAV4 for a test run along the local highway - noise, and lack of response. So much for its touted

172 kW. (SWEAR WORDS WARNING: The like but non-hybrid X-Trail felt much better in both ways,

but I wasn't interested in a 4-cyl anymore.)

10K is acceptable, but that would be the absolute limit. If you plan to keep it long term then I would get into the habit of doing it earlier. It will pay dividends later and not have to deal with a sludged up engine.

Not do use any other oil other than what is specified. They have designed the engine to work on that weight if oil and if you go heavier, you may compromise the internal components that rely on the thin oil. I wouldn't do it.

There's plenty of info online about the subject.

If you like watching YouTube, look up a channel called, "The Car Care Nut".

He only works on Toyota and Lexus and has featured your Kluger model many times. You'll pick up a lot of info from him.

Cheers mate
