I have been having different issues with the turbo in my 2006 D4D diesel hilux. Initally, turbo decided not to work when doing 100Km/hr and overtaking - just cut out and engine light on dash came on. Pulled to side of road, turn car off and restarted - all good. Started adding fuel additive and everyting great for a while. Then turbo chop in became later and later - worst was no turbo until afyer 2K revs. Started with the Map valve and filer - no improvement. Changed boost pressure sensor - no improvement. Installed new SCV valve - no go, engine light came on after only 300m and turbo still not workin propely - put old one back in and no engine light but still with turbo issue. OK, so contemplated ripping exhast manifold off the get rid of suspected carbon glob or buying a can of carbon build up remover or even new wastegate - bought and installed an after market MAF and wow, like a new car - no red lights and turbo cuts in around 1.2K. I may be preaching to the converted, but start trouble shooting and replacing cheap items first before doing what I was contemplating. May not work all the time but on this occasion, it did.
