I’ve just acquired a hilux ln167 5l e 2001 model hilux.

ive done it up a bit. New shocks, tray, fixed electricals and it goes great.

are the 5l e engines really that gutless? It sits happily on 90 kms on the flat. It is hilly where I live, and the hilux struggles on the hills, is that normal.

car idles a bit rough, but sits on 750 rpm rock solid. Starts first pop. Blows no smoke whatsoever. Is responsive on the flat, even in top gear. Will sit happily on 100 but purrs at 90kmh.

does this all sound normal? Motor has 280,000 on the clock. Too late to add a turbo id have thought and I love it anyway. Just thought there might be something I’m missing.

any ideas

thanks in advance
