Hi All

Thank you for welcoming me to your club, much appreciated.

Just wanted to share a concern I have with my 2013 RAV4 2.5 petrol engine. It has 174,000 klms on the vehicle and every time I start it up first thing in the morning the VVTI gear rattles for about 1 - 2 seconds. After investigation I found a Technical Service Bulletin stating that this is a common fault with some of these engines and replacing the VVTI gear should fix the problem. This gear loses oil pressure over night, thus until oil pressure is regained it will rattle. Occasionally, even when the engine is warm after sitting for some time it will rattle again but no where as bad as cold starting. What I have read online some people are saying that this is ok to still drive providing the rattle goes away after first start cold.

Has anyone experienced the same problem with their RAV4? Your thoughts would be highly appreciated, thank you.
