I would use something like this to actually trigger the solenoid

http://www.greddy.com/prod_multi_switching_sys.htm

I use it on my car to activate neovvl (nissan vtec). It has pickups for TPS, RPM, Temperature etc. So you can say, Engage Lift when (just an example, you can use as many or as few inputs as you want), Youre on full throttle only and coolant temp is X degrees and you are at 6000rpm). It has 2 outputs so you could use it to arm a nitrous system aswell, flash a shift light etc etc. Its a pretty trick little unit. Its got easy to use dials to change the settings quickly and easily, which makes it good for doing dyno testing to pickup the optimal cam engagement points.

You can also setup warnings so if you go past a certain coolant temp it will flash red, go over a certain rpm etc etc
