The most powerful pod filter

Grey-Rolla

Recommended Posts

the rule is - if the pod is in the engine bay it needs to be enclosed. The CAIs people are getting are positioning the pod outside of the engine bay and behind the bumper which I am lead to believe is perfectly legal.

I agree

My understanding is exposed air filters in the engine bay is a defect.

But the K&N apollo is ok as the filter is enclosed in a cover but still sits in the engine bay.

Hence why I have the heatshield on my SRI.

in the recent auto salon they did a test on 10 branded air filters too see which had the best filteration and flow.

the best air filter came out as the 3A air filter that cheap brand yellow one, which came first in air flow and filteration. k&n came 4th in flow but first in filteration. its upto you if you want the best filteration or flow. But this is only air filters not CAI's

How were they both 1st in filteration?

Is 3A-Racing the brand? My muffler is 3A-Racing, courtest of Danz... then BigBum... Now me

Where do you buy their stuff anyway? Never seen it for sale.

ZOOM did some research on this a few months ago and found Apexi Power Intake and DRIFT urethane filters to be the pick.

The Apex'i ones would be exxy but does anyone know any retailers who stock the Drift brand? I've seen it advertsied in car mags. Is AutoBarn one?

Same question for this one, have you seen them for sale? Where?

If I'm not mistaken, the 3A canon is sold at autobarn. Its on sale for like $99 I think....could be wrong though

Yeah dude I've got a 3A-Racing chrome twin tip which looks to be a copy of the Remus... it's awesome :D It's a bit of a whore though... Danz... then BigBum... then me with sloppy thirds... probably could have found a better phrase to use there, lol.

yep Autobarn have them ~$35 so was easily the best bank for buck ;)

it's in issue 104 of ZOOM

they did the test on their project Cyborg (mirage) FWD drag car and all tested were carried out in sucession on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno

Standard - 132.7 KW

Pipercross - 132.8 - $399

BMC carbon - 132.9 - $649

Drift Stainless - 133.3 - $100

Driftbitz Stainless - 133.7 - $66

K&N - 133.9 - $110

BMC F1 - 134.1 - $160

SAAS - 134.6 - $30

Driftbitz carbon - 134.6 - $33

JR - 134.9 - $105

HKS superflow - 134.9 - $195

NO FILTER - 135.1 - $ummm FREE!!!

Apexi - 135.3 - $120 (but they used one with the Air Fuel Meter bracket attached instead of just the filter which they suspect lowered the reading though only slightly)

Trust Arinx -135.9 - $155

Drift Urethane (Blue) - 136.2 - $36

A wealth of info as usual Dylan

Some things I find interesting:

- None of them were worse than stock (presumably? Or did they leave those out?)

- An alleged "sh!tty brand" SAAS product beat the K&N product (so did a lot of others lol)

- Drift brand won!

I'm gonna check out Autobarn tomorrow ;)

What it also doesn't show is the filtration levels of each.

To get the higher reading what are you sacrificing in terms of filtration?

The OEM filter was also pretty dirty as well where as the others were all new filters.

worth noting that the car had a vane style filter (like a pool filter) which is pretty closely shaped to a pod to begin with as well.

The article is well worth a read, as are most of the shootouts that ZOOM performs.

Their research is real and well thought through and carried out unlike certain other 'ricer' mags that shall remain nameless but you know the ones I'm taking about ;)

Yep you're right, but any problems with your Drift one so far?

I'm gonna wait and talk to Tom about th one he got from Shift.

The ones that use a creatively-written conclusion to pretty much disclaim all of the results without you noticing and are intended to make you walk away thinking you know something :P

I haven't got a Drift one though I'm thinking about it just to try out... it's only $35 afterall :P

I'll do it if you do it - $35 is a bargain

Problem is our Autobarns here tend to not have a very wide range. Last time I was there I saw a bunch of SAAS ones and the Blitz LM type core refill but that's all. Might be able to order it in. I'll get on that

Hahaha my mag is HPi, we don't sell it or ZOOM here so I have to read trash like Hot4's and Motor/Wheels (same sh!t!) and Unique Cars which isn't even really a magazine

We have soft porn but my name isn't Michael ;)

Nice one schmicko let us know how it goes.

Dylan I bought mine today, $35.99, the urethane-topped one, did you get that one or the steel-top? I remember you said $35 so that's the one I got.

I'll put it on tonight...
