Hi all,

Im the owner of an 04 corolla hatch (1ZZFE) and have been given conflicting info with regards to which oil filter i should be using on the vehicle. The filter supplied to me by the toyota spare parts dept. is a

90915-YZZE2 ................ The last two digits (E2) are what concern me, and what seems to differ with depending on who or where the information is sourced.

I'm interested in any ones opinion, as Ive also emailed toyota Aust. with no response as yet !!

i heard that is the factory number you are concerned at.

genuine toyota oil filters are coming from thailand or japan. japan oil filter boxes are glued sealed to open it to take out the oil filter you need to break the seal and thailand boxes are only folded sealed you can open and close it.

there are 3 types of oil filters made by toyota. there is short, long and big. big is for big cars like prado.

short and long can be interchanged as the seat thread is the same. guys in japan have their theories on which is better. i have used both on 1zz and 2zz.

for 1zz engine the original part is the short filter but in japan i have heard of people using the long filter thinking it will work better.

for 2zz engine the original part is the long filter but also in japan some people use the short filter thinking the compression is better.

the long filter is about 15mm longer than the short filter. does not matter if you are using the short or long filter but it you want to stay original then you need to use the short filter any short filter made by toyota.

they have supplied to you the long filter made in thailand

here is a photo of the filters i am using. i have 2 short and 2 long. i would not worry about using the long type. hope this helps

Thanks kcorro, your info has been extremely helpful !!

Sorry to revive that thread but has anyone have actually felt the difference between the "short" and "long" oil filter? I changed my oil filter to the "long" (Ryco Z432). I definitely feel the ride being smoother but not rev as quick as the stock (short) oil filter. Can anyone shed some light on this please? :)

Stevek, your oil filter should be an E1, the shorter version...

The 2ZZGE Sportivo Corolla takes the longer E2...

The only difference is the longer filter has a larger capacity so it filters more oil at the one time...

Kcorro, Toyota make a lot more than 3 filters... I can think of about 10 off the top of my head...

Thegourou20, you'll find your car is running better and smoother due to the oil change and not the filter size...

Placebo effect. You're expecting there to be a difference so your body tricks you into feeling one. Same as a butt-dyno after a full tank of petrol.

rofl, nice one,

well said.

though,

market for oil filters have changed some what. due to the shocking exchange rate of the AUD, damn you AUD, oil filters out of USA have gone up by 20%-30%. $34 for an oil filter out of the states has got to suck, even though their top quality, maybe genuine toyota's will do just for now...
