Wheels rubbing guards & plastic?

Just did a normal everyday driving run through putty rd from singleton.

checked the car this morning.... :o :o :o :o

looks like i was driving over knives!!!

there's grooves ALL OVER THE OUTER edge of the rubber...

so bad..that there's bit of rubber litterally hanging off the rubber....

does anyone else have the same problems?

i had myself and 2 passengers and lugguage from the weekend.

checked under the guards..and there's already a hole in the plastic...looks like it's actually rubbing against the front bar mounting screw plate...

oh...but what's the offset of your wheels?

If your offsets are really out then you only have the 2 options of either raising the car a bit or new wheels. If they are rubbing that bad it can be dangerous. I have seen a prelude blow a front tyre through a high speed corner because the car was too low with wrong offsets. The Guard just sliced through the tyre and it was not pretty.

One thing to check is in the past King Springs have had a nasty habbit of settling a lot lower than the claimed drop. Maybe they have settled lower on yours.

I read an interesting article in a magazine (europe) about rolling up the inside of arches for such particular cases. Basically you go to town on the inside of your arch with a blow torch and a hammer and then you use a baseball bat to roll it out and make it smooth again.

Although this kind of work is to be taken very easily at any time and dont go too gun ho other wise you end up with nice big bulges in your arches which dont look cool.

If anyone is interested in the article I can post it for you.?

Guard rolling isn't visible; it's inside, so you wouldn't really be able to tell the difference from the outside (unless you tapped the guard a little too hard... :lol: )

I'd recommend you look at getting a new set of rims. Firstly, it's not roadworthy, and secondly, even if you don't care about roadworthiness, you are putting yourself in a lot of danger, as you can see for yourself from the tyres... :o

A) getting new rims

B) getting coilovers (many more bonuses here)

Around the same price anyways.

What do you guys think?

Marcus is gonna hate me for this post ;)

but I'd say get the rims, because if you get coilovers, you'll just raise your ride height again - you may as well go back to your stock springs if you're gonna raise your car again!

i don't mind at all.

plus...i can seriously drop it when i want to for shows.

Yeah, 215/45 is heaps different from 205/45 or 215/40.

Offset 40 is right, so the problem is the rubber then...

Considering you should really be using 205/40/R17 or 215/40/R17, you have thrown the total diameter out by over the legal 15mm (according to Victorian ruling), and your sidewall width has changed by over 15mm - 15mm which would normally clear your guards, but obviously no longer :D

      Head Unit Replacement for 2010 Toyota Corolla Hatch

      G’day TGA, hope you got this sorted, just about any 2 din would fit. I’m putting a pioneer one in but I’d like to know how to pull the trims apart to fit it 🤨 Every video shows the sedan with a different gearshift with short trims to remove but those 2 lower side ones are 1 piece on the hatch and I’m struggling.       Landcruiser 200 GPS

      I am sure many owners of Landcruiser 200s have had the same experience as me where the GPS has led me into the wrong roads. I’ve had two Landcruisers, a 2013 model and currently have a 2021 model. Both vehicles had/have poor GPSs. Even Toyota personnel agree with this. so I am considering replacing it with an after market unit. I don’t want one which relies on mobile phone connection. I am looking at a unit sold by Brummstadt.       Aurion "wobble"

      Since last year I've been getting quite terrible wheel wobble between 60-70 mph on the expressway. Sort of notice it however way less evident now and again going more slow. Recently got crankshaft belt and flash fittings changed at a repairman I believe that accomplishes great work. This began occurring after I got excessively blissful doing doughnuts in the colder time of year and knock a snow bank tapping a road sign haha... I figured I twisted something in the driver side suspension...lower control arm, tie bar, and so on yet repairman said everything was straight and tight, bushings alright, no spillage on them or swaggers. He said perhaps a wheel arrangement would fix it. I maintain that should do swaggers in any case cause the ride isn't quite as smooth as it used to be. Contemplations? Assuming I get an arrangement would it be advisable for me to do the swaggers first or is that all the more with supplanting the lower control arm?

      Fusible link has blown out twice

      Any one had any experience with fusible links blowing out. Auto electrician replaced one fusible link today bc and after driving it for 1/2 hour the plastic has melted and the link red hot. It is the blue link in the set. Any suggestion?

      Oil Pipe Leak

      I just had my Aurion ATX 2010 in for service today and received a call regarding oil cooling pipe has a prick hole and car is deemed not safe to drive till replaced. Service department bloke said they are taking photos and sending of for Warranty and awaiting a reply if it will be replaced at their cost or mine. I was informed it was picked up during service in 2020 and deemed safe? I will keep you updated on the outcome. my car has always been serviced at Toyota and only has 209,900 Kim’s

      Swapping hiace motors

      Hi there, bit of background, I’ve got a 2003 Toyota hiace lwb that has a good motor but the shell is dead, and a 1993 Toyota hiace commuter extra long wheel base that has a dead motor. Both diesel, 1993 is 2.4L engine, 2003 I’m not 100% but I believe it’s also a 2.4L engine So my question is does anybody know if the 2003 motor would fit in the 1993 hiace commuter.
