Took my Aurion to The drags

Recommended Posts

Took my car to the Drag races the other night (Willowbank Raceway)

Ended up doing a 14.8 and 95MPH which i thought was awesome for the 1st time.

i wasnt really intending on running so i hadnt really set the car up for racing (Was running 91ron fuel, being cheap that week) So hopefully with some 98ron and some octane booster maybe a 14.6 or even a .5 which would be awesome out of a completely stock car.

A friend also ran his down aswell and did the same time 14.8 at 95mph and was running 95ron fuel. his was the touring and mine is an atx.

Fantastic,

Have you got a scan of the timeslips? also 0-100?

These things also make heaps of smoke when doing a burnout. Was sitting on limiter in 1st for a bit then went to 2nd and hit limeter in that for the burnout in the pic

Burnout, so im guessing you turned off the Traction control?

Yeah, i need to get a good launch and have a cooler car and better fuel amd should see a lowish 14, 95mph is apparently good for a 14.2second pass if launch and everything is perfect.

Thanks for the Slip. No 0-100 im guessing?

Smoke could be just the tyres, are they the michelin stockies?

How did you find the traction? easy to manage?

How was the ambience temp?

Hey. Sorry to revive the old thread, but I think the time is appropriate; plus I'm giving Rowan an indication that he needs to post here when he gets the chance.

The good 'ol Aurion is still holding up strong. Last night Rowan and I took ours to the drags (my first time, Rowan's second) and were able to obtain some revised figures.

My best run was my third one which was 14.397s @ 98.06mph

Rowan on the other hand... well, where are you?

Edit: I don't know much about the drags, but one thing I noticed was that I was consistently getting a trap speed of just a little more than 1mph higher than Rowan, despite him getting faster times. I know it is not a significant amount, but I can't quite wrap my head around what factor adds to this. Is it caused by a faster gain in speed down low, or up high?

Hey thanks for the post and pic...

I know nothing about the drags other than I love the sound, smell and power :D

Can you explain what I am looking at on the time slip.

Is that times for you and another car? Are you Comp Cams?

The drag is over a qtr mile isn't at or 1,320 feet, which time is for that?

Are you matched up against like for like cars.

The MPH (KPH) is that at the time designated

I know this probably all seems a bit obvious but I am interested to fully understand.

The whole idea of taking my car to the drags is exciting.

Oh BTW you have an intake and exhaust mod, do you think these showed any advantage??

Thanks

Paul

I am vehicle 816. The only run that I was against Rowan was the first one. That time slip was for my 3rd run, and that time I was up against an XR6. We weren't really matched for the drags as the first 3 runs are just trials so you know which bracket to enter should you wish to do so.

I don't know the origins of 'COMP CAMS' and 'ROCKET', but the COMP CAMS lane is on the left, and the ROCKET lane is on the right. So in that third run, you can see I was in the COMP CAMS lane.

The track is 1/4 mile and that time is indicated by 'E.T' (Elapsed Time) underneath the 1000ft time. The trap speed is located just after that and shows the speed you were going at the 1/4 mile end.

My car was running with the upper resonator back in place (forgot to put the straight pipe back after my 60k service the night before) and with my Varex open which is just essentially a stock exhaust with the rear mufflers running as 2.5 inch straight through.

good time buds.... well done

Wait for Rowan's.

nar your going to have to get some serious power out of them to crack the 13's, ecu or piggyback of some sort. or supercharger

man the vid does not do it justice hey it is so much nicer in real life, every1 thats heard it is really amazed int he sound hey...u need to get one.

no more dramas really just need to get it boxed and coated now

yeh rocket and comp cams is the 2 lanes they are just the sponsers. your car number is under it

yeh quarter mile which is 400m or 1320 ft.

there is a line up for the races, 4 lines and u just pick who u want to race y parkig behind them, and if the next person wants to race u he will park behind u as they do 2 at a time in each line/

yeh your mph or kmph is at your 660ft mark and again read at your 400m mark

hope that clears it up

Rowan what tyres are ya using at the moment?(any grip issues in the runs),and a full second or more off that reaction time, maybe another purchase from Ultra Racing and a bit of DIY weight improvment and i reckon ya would crack high 13's,ya so freakin close ya can taste it. B)

i took my 20's off and borrowed 00UCH's stockies which had michilans on them. i recon extractors, free flowing cats, and a really cold winter night and u could crack it if u were really lucky. keep in mind thestock time for the trd aurion (with a supercharger) in wheels magazine 14.2 and motor magazine 14.3....i think me and daryl did a good job

I doubt the Aurion will be able to crack into the high 13's. Unless of course you strip the entire interior and run on bare minimum fuel. Otherwise you will need to work on the engine a little. Any more Ultra Racing gear made for the Aurion isn't going to help either with the times.

I'm confident that I can beat Rowan. Even by 0.01. I like to be a little competitive sometimes. Maybe if I take a second longer to work on my launch as well since I was also interested in keeping my reaction time low on the night.

All in all though Rowan, if you do have any engine power gains, you'll need them since you got heavier rims..... can you sense the jealously.

I might just head to the test and tune on Wednesday now then.
