Im trying to find out abit on modifing the standard intake on the aurion. ive heard of a few people blocking off the lower resinator etc. DJKOR has done something along those lines (correct me if im wrong).

So im lookin to find out:

how to block off the lower resinator and how this helps

And how to bypass the intake air control valve so that the valve will be open continuously.

ive got some photos on switching the contol valve hoses around so it does this but i am lookin for some more information or what other people have done.

Just like you said, all I did was swap the vacuum hoses around so that the upper intake valve stays open and blocked off the lower resonator. I actually blocked off the resonator and did not remove it. I used a small section of thick plastic sheet (like the stuff used in ponds and whatnot) and attached it in such a way that it blocks off the connection between the intake tube and lower resonator. I figured there is no point taking it out of the engine bay when i can simply just block it off. I failed to take photos during the process, so sorry I couldn't help there.

I was considering putting on an intake such as a Fujita intake, but that is purely because I love the sound of it. My old Camry had a pod filter on it, and man it sounded so much better when you opened it up. Here is a clip of a Fujita intake on a Gen6 Camry:

In that respect, a change of intake is only just going to give you a better note and looks, which for most people, is what they are after.

For anyone wishing to open their upper intake path all the time, just connect the valve directly to the vacuum line. I left the pipe attached to the switching valve on the left because it not only prevents the insides of the switch getting dirty, but it lets me change it back to normal without having to find some spare tube. There is probably no real advantage to doing this except for increasing intake noise. Those that say it increases throttle response are probably imagining it. The way I see it, it's just another path to let air get to the filter, so opening it would be of no harm.

somehow i disagree.. i thought the same way at first until i actually see what the 2 boxes do, and how removing it allow so much more better air flow..

but dont forget about that 'learning' ecu..(not sure wat specific name i should use, but this is wat i use)

have been explaining more than 10 times the same thing to different members of this forum..

if u dont get wat 'learning' means, then i explain, no point writing again for now..

but DJKOR saying that better note is definately true!!

Hmmm.... refering to the pic above, where the pod filter attaches to the intake, is there any room underneath the battery or surrounding area for some piping - CAI style?

Too cold to go into the garage & look :D

Hey dannywss; how good are those foam filters? The only reason that was stopping me from putting on a Short Ram Intake or Cold Air Intake was the potential for the MAF sensor to get dirty with oil from a pod filter or whatnot. I considered using a foam filter, but have hesitated since I have doubts about their effectiveness.

Hey apg39; the Fujita intake is a Cold Air Intake. There appears to be space for a pod filter to be mounted low. This is on a Gen6 Camry, but it would be pretty much the same:

Just reading about the Fujita CAI for the Gen 6 Camry. This is the Same engine as the Aurion. (2GR-FE)

And acording to the Fujita website they can deliver to Aus..

so by the looks of it you could get a CAI that will fit the aurion for under $300 aus.

ill send them off a email to double check to see if they deliver to aus or if they have a Aus Dealer might be worth getting one.

Ooo and they say that the power goes from 203kw to 218-222 kw.

DJKOR pointed out the spot for MAF.

There are room down there but i dont suggest, coz i remember law said that pod is ALLOWED ONLY IF IT IS COVERED IN AIR BOX.. something similar..

also, you cant see the room now, at i covered it with my cf air box(upper part removed)..

This hks pod is washable and having it until now, not a single problem.

Danny - is that a custom piece attaching to the filter? if so - how did you attach it?

I've got an idea in mind, but its going to be custom & so I need to attach the MAF & vacuum hoses somewhere.

I love/hate holidays because it gives me plenty of time to work on the car.

Ok here's my intake idea.

Essentially removing the filter box & adding a 90deg bend, I'd add a pod filter at the end of it...the air is still fed over the radiator & into the first piece of stock intake - but then flows onto the pod filter?

Also - just started taking it apart...whats this for? Im assuming it alters whether air is coming from the top or bottom intake tract...but when does it open to use the top intake? once moving? at high revs?

That's the intake valve bypass that I was talking about initially. It opened by a electronic vacuum switching valve located to the left of it. It is opened up at highway speeds, which I am guessing that would be around 60km/h+. I wouldn't have a clue. The manual doesn't state it either.

When the engine is operating in the low- to mid-speed range, this control operates the air intake control valve to close one side of the air cleaner inlet. As a result, the intake area has been minimized and the intake noise is reduced.

When the engine is operating in the high-speed range, this control operates the air intake control valve to open both sides of the air cleaner inlet. As a result, the intake area has been maximized and the intake efficiency is improved.

So holding it open would just create extra noise (which isn't much), and in my opinion, the extra air flow can't be a disadvantage right?

if we get more people buying it, it works out cheaper to make one order and get it posted to one person in each city... (ie all the brisbane/gold coast people make one order shipped to one person)

these are the figures i worked out: (in USD!!)

1 = $348.55 delivered

2 = $330.20 delivered

3 = $324.05 delivered

4 = $321.00 delivered

5 = $319.15 delivered

and it keeps getting cheaper by a little bit until like 10 = $315.50

so its not THAT much of a saving, but the difference between 1 and 3 is like $24...

i'm also looking at getting one made locally here, and i believe it will be working out to be cheaper than that... so i can post up details of that if people interested...

Pumped: i'm not sure mate... i've never had a look under a normal aurion to see if the intake is the same...

but i know that the guy who's doing my intake said it'll be a 3" pipe with 6" pod... so it'll be massive... maybe too big for the normal aurion? i dont know enough about intakes to comment on that one though...

lookin at the pics on the website of it im just gonna make it myself prob outa nice shiny staino tube then just get a good filter, cant be that hard buy some bends wled them together a couple holes etc for vacunm lines etc waala done i hope :D :D :D :D :D :D

im also gonna have a go at fabricating the radiator shroud outa ally sheetmetal shouldn be to hard and plan to leave it that brushed alloy look

Only problem with that is there is a air sensor not 100% sure what it does but i belive you have to have one for the car to run...

Either way v8toy when i get this in ill have a play with it.. take out the air sensor. etc.. pass on the info here and you came come check it out

cool! add an exhaust and it could be 228-232kw!?

Only problem with that is there is a air sensor not 100% sure what it does but i belive you have to have one for the car to run...

Either way v8toy when i get this in ill have a play with it.. take out the air sensor. etc.. pass on the info here and you came come check it out

yeah that would be prob the hardest thing to do although if u make it an exact copy of whats allready there as far as sensor position and mounting etc i reckon it'd be easy enough im after more bling than anything so long as it doesnt rob any power.

so are u gonna buy one soloman
