ok i wanna do a basic oil change every half warranty service period

in doing so thy cant really tell can the and then viod my warranty

im not gonna change the filter ill just do a basic dump then re-fill its just for that little bit of extra protection

makes me feel a bit better that way

so is it a good idea or will they say hey we didnt change that oil and its different to the oil we ue and then say you dont have warranty anymore go away

Hi Justin,

Like with any consumable e.g. spark plugs, brake pads, tyres, oils etc etc it is something the car consumes as such u as a consumer are entitled to change it when ever u see fit.

So a straight response is no toyota cannot void ur warrenty for changing ur oil and oil filter.... I do my oil every 5K km's no issues thus far....

do you use the genuine toyota oil filter or do you use a different one

also what oil and what grade ( i was thinkning 20W50 or 15W40 is that right) do i use for my car i wouldnt have clue

also whats the best brand that most people like to use

Check your owners manual ... as long as you meet Toyota's specs with your oil, they can't void your warranty.

The only reason I have my 5K oil & filter change done by the dealer is because I am mechanically inept, and if they stuff something up, then they have to fix it.

yeah i did read the owners manual but it pretty much says depending on tempreture use each different oil now you dont change your oil every day according to ouside temp do you so of all the peoples who drive stivos out there what do they use

i am assuming 20W50 or 15W40

in saying that, that might be why our motors are so damn noisy im always hearing different knocks and rattles that come and go from the motor people just say its a noisy motor

also probably doesnt help that i still have the iriginal drive in oil in it wich is really thinlike water hey

considering the way i drive i wanna change the oil PRETTY soon but i dont want it to be too thin or too thick thats all

Mobil 1 Gold Fully Synthetic 10W30 is really good too....

Myself n a few others are using it atm ..... n fully recommend it :)

Its a bit exxy tho @ $90 for 5 Litres...

Another option is Motul 300V......have heard many reviews on this oil with similar engines to ours ie. Honda vtec engines.....and all have been positive B)

Its bout $20 per 1 Litre so bout the same price as the Mobil 1 ..

Depends on the dealership.

Where I bought my car it was Mobil1 but at Wollongong it's Castrol GTX2.

GTX2?

They could at least use GTX3.

Last service I had completed at Toyota, I took a Castrol Synthetic.

Service before I used Castrol Magnatec, and that was 15/40 from memory, souds like I won't be using that again.

They use 10W30 on the standard VVT-i motors, too. I read somewhere that the oil journals in the current Corollas are quite narrow, and can be easily clogged, plus I believe that the variable timing is actuated by oil pressure, but someone more knowledgable than my good self might be able to elaborate further.

I use 5W30 Castrol FormulaR Synthetic, $44 from Auto1 5 liters. From what i heard about oils (from SPOON's CEO Ichishima San, Honda specialist), he reccomends OEM oil from your dealership. He says spending big bucks on oils can be a waste of money because big bucks doesn't always equal better quality oil. Well i guess that applies to Hondas but Toyotas i don't know and seeing that different dealerships use different oils, maybe the 10W30 VVT-i oil is the way to go and costs $25 for 5 liters? The only thing i don't like is that its semi-synthetic.

I would reccomend any full-synthetic oil that has viscosity ratings 5W30, 10W30, 5W40, 10W40.

hmmmmm

seems like 10W30 is the way everybody is going and i beleive you all when you say thats what toyota recomends

but just for my own peace of mind ill call them tomoz morning before i buy the oil and change it just to be certain

as for brand i have herd ALOT of good things about a brand of oil not very common to many people at all

its called royal purple and it cant be baught hardly anywhere but i used it in my UTE and it felt vewry smooth

so i guess i am gonna go the Royal Purple again for the STIVO too

and ill just drop into penrith toyota and grab an oil filter off them too

does anybody recommend an oil flush to be used or should i not worry about it

      Fusible link has blown out twice

      Any one had any experience with fusible links blowing out. Auto electrician replaced one fusible link today bc and after driving it for 1/2 hour the plastic has melted and the link red hot. It is the blue link in the set. Any suggestion?

      Oil Pipe Leak

      I just had my Aurion ATX 2010 in for service today and received a call regarding oil cooling pipe has a prick hole and car is deemed not safe to drive till replaced. Service department bloke said they are taking photos and sending of for Warranty and awaiting a reply if it will be replaced at their cost or mine. I was informed it was picked up during service in 2020 and deemed safe? I will keep you updated on the outcome. my car has always been serviced at Toyota and only has 209,900 Kim’s

      Swapping hiace motors

      Hi there, bit of background, I’ve got a 2003 Toyota hiace lwb that has a good motor but the shell is dead, and a 1993 Toyota hiace commuter extra long wheel base that has a dead motor. Both diesel, 1993 is 2.4L engine, 2003 I’m not 100% but I believe it’s also a 2.4L engine So my question is does anybody know if the 2003 motor would fit in the 1993 hiace commuter.

      Brake issues with 2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid

      Hi all, trying to get some opinion/feedback on what I recently observed on my Corolla Cross. It happened on the last two trips where the car made noise, I feel some vibration/rattling when I was braking. It lasts for 1 or 2 seconds. I kind of felt the tires skid but I am not sure if that's what actually happened. And I, again kind of, felt that it was the right side tires. Or at least the noise coming from the right side. But it could be just because I was driving and obviously sit on the right side of the car. In those 2 trips, it happened in 4 occasions. And it wasn't abrupt or hard braking, just normal slowing down. I wonder if this is a known issues ... or if anyone with the same car experience the same or similar issues. Thank you.

      IAC for 1997 Camry Vienta (3vzfe)

      Aisan (not to be confused with Aisin by the way) has been an OEM supplier for Toyota carburetor, throttle-body and fuel-injection components since the '60s. Unlike Denso and Aisin though, they're not actually part of the Toyota Group (but Toyota does have a financial interest in them)
