  1. Took some pictures of my ECU. Can someone confirm it is identical to the Australian version?
  2. Damn, it seems to me some of you guys bought the wrong car My record since I have the car is 475 km. Average of about 415km on a tank of Shell 98 V-power. And a few years ago when I followed the Gumball 3000 when they drove trough Belgium I had to refill after only 280 km :D (that was an expensive night !) Anyway, I know I have a heavy foot but getting 600 km out of a tank looks absolutely impossible to me.
  3. This is fantastic news. Now, how can I verify if your loom will work with my corolla. Mine is actualy built in England so it isn't impossible there could be some differences, no? Would it be possible to verify this if i post some pictures from my ECU? Or is that a waste of time? Damn, I'm so glad there is at last a plug and play option !!!
  4. @ Superdave. You just made my day! Every few months I check out this forum about what is new and hot regarding engine modifications on the 2ZZ and ever since i heard of the powerFC I wanted one. But since it is a custom job and there is no one with experience on this engine within 500 km's of where i live I never persued this 'dream'. But if you are able to provide a plug and play harnas I might find somebody capable of tuning it. I mean, the priciples stays the same, isn't it? Tuning a powerFc or another standalone unit? Anyway, hope you finish this 'holly grail' soon :)
  5. 1 - Yup, thats something that is right on the top of my to do list. Any id what this could mean in hp's with the larger exhaust on it? 2 - I chose the cams as an alternative to an engine management. They have proven to be working very well with the stock ECU. Until i find someone who can win my trust the stock ecu stays put :) 3 - Engine was warm, the drive up there is +30 min and the run was done like 15 minutes after I got there. 4 - Totaly agree, and on the road i'm happy, its pretty rare i get beaten. But nontheless the dyno proved to be usefull. I never would have doubted my exhaust without the run.
  6. The power I acheived on the wheels is 118,3 KW uncorrected (and it was pretty hot). 1 KW = 1,36 HP. This isn't problematic but schould be higher. That my exhaust is too small is quite clear by now. What size should I aim for? For example, what sizing is the CES exhaust?
  7. After several setbacks I finally got time to go to a Dyno. The Dyno of my preference is unavailable for an unknown amount of time so I decided to go with my second choice. Honestly, I was very disappointed and confused with the results. Have a look for yourself: Mods: - Pipercams Stage2 - K&N Typhoon SRI (clean and oiled a week ago, also cleaned the maf after a few days to get rid of possible spilled oil) - Free flow mandrel bent catback 2" - 18" Aez Xylo's (relatively lightweight - 11.5 kilos without tire) - 70.000 kms on the odometer. Since the graph is in German wich isn't even my native language I will "translate" the important numbers. - WheelHP uncorrected: 160.9 @ 7561rpm - CrankHP uncorrected: 175.3 @ 7561rpm - CrankHP corrected: 179.2 @ 7561rpm - CrankTQ corrected: 172 @ 7225rpm (126.9 Lb.Ft) Conditions: 1006mBar / 29°C (84.2°F) / 4th gear. Single run, closed hood, minimal ventilation (just some vents in the wall 5 feet in front of the car) What do you guys think? The fact the guy told me he tested several 2zz-ge's which did put down the stock 192 horses made me frown a bit. My engine is very rare here but the few times I had the chance to race one I walked them BAD. On the freeway, WRX'es are no mach for me ... And honestly, I'm not the next Shumacher :D On the other hand, he's a well respected tuner (for german cars). The fact he dislikes Japanese cars is no secret either.
  8. The MR-S LSD also fits in our gearboxes, there is only one small adjustment to do to make the speedo work. Thats what i found out on the american celica fora. Sounds to me to be the cheaspest solution since most cars are wrecked from front end damage and i presume that it should be doable to find a used one for cheap.
  9. Just back with some numbers. 0-60 : 7.3 (from 7.6) 1/4 : 15.3 (from 16.1) I'm a bit dissapointed in the 0-60 but the 1/4 is greatly aproved. It just shows I suck at launching :D SPeed @ 1/4 was about 92 mph where before it was 100+ What does it mean to have lower finish speed? And a last question, how much km's would I need for the ECU to fully relearn itself? Stationary now is pretty fine, small woble now and then but noone would even notice. Does that mean the ECU alread has relearnd?
  10. Thx BigBum, they only took 5 pictures but then again, there is not to much to see also :) Anyway, it is clearly my car and that is what I needed, so noone can say i'm lying when i say the cams are in.
  11. The cams will cost me 960€ and installing them another 120€. It shure isn't the cheapest shop but it has a killer reputation and they simply gave me confidence that it will go smooth. I actualy payed some more, installing them took some more time then estimated and there were importtaxes to be payed. It totaled at 1233€ installed.
  12. I'm just back from my tuner, and the cams are mounted ! I do have photo's but for some reason I can not upload them. I only had the chanse to drive like 50 km's in heavy traffic and light rain so this is way to soon too conclude anything on the cams. The engine runs a bit nervous stationary but it doesn't stall and at the end of the drive it already seamed a lot more stable. The kick in the ***** at 6k is almost completely gone thus making it feel a lot slower to drive. I do am 100% shure it puls harder in high cam then before and there is no torque hole before it so logicaly it puls a lot harder betwean 4k and 6k than before . It just feels slower. I hope it dries up later this evening so i can do some preleminary runs with the G-Tech. It will take some time to get used to because the car feels totaly different. Someone can help to post the pictures? This is the error i get: The requested file upload failed because suitable permissions have not been enabled on the 'uploads' directory. Please contact the board administrator and inform them of this error.

  14. Valves and springs remain the same as stock since acording to Piper it is not necasery to update them. Actualy I even had choise between 2 brands of cams, the Pipers and the one of CATCAM. The CATCAM's have a rather special grind which makes it absolutely necesary to change the springs. And since they perform almost the same (but on a different way) I chose the Pipers. The Cats would be PERFECT for Forced induction ... They have a shorter duration but a faster opening/closing due to steep slopes on the cams. Which ofcourse makes it necasery to have other springs. And harder springs = more stress and less power. Intake and exhaust are already taken care of. K&N Typhoon kit and a mandrel bent free flow catback which already freed up some of the 'hidden' horses. I'm planing on portmatching intake and header in the near future.
  15. Yeah, I want some pictures too :) I'm planning on giving the installer my digital camera when I drop of the car. I'm supposed they will be happy to make some pictures.
  16. Apparently I am. I just returned from my tuner and payed an advance on them. They should arrive this week, piper had them on stock en somewhere next week they will be installed. Pretty nervous about it since it is the first 'real' engine mod I'm gooing through with. Do not scream about dyno numbers, I do not have a baserun and even after the mod I will not promptly have them perform a run. Since I have no way of tuning anything and piper built them for the stock ECU I do not see the use of dynoing it. I do will test the 0-60 and the 400 times with my G-tech wich I'm verry used to and that should give me a verry accurate view of the actual gains in speed and acceleration.
  17. Cool, apparently mine is an UK build Corolla :) After all the things I heard about the SA build i'm pretty happy with that :D (unless ofcourse an UK built one is even worse :P )
  18. Errr, let's just say not this side of 100K. OMFG, if thats true you payed like 50% more then I would pay here in Belgium !!!
  19. I did say it looked like BS, not that it was ... If it is real I'll soon be an undoubtly happy owner of one of those Power FC's. But I can't help thinking it is pretty unlikely they would release it now. I hope they do, verry much even, but I doubt it.
  20. How reliable is your source? Sounds like a lot of BS to me to be honnest. Why would they make an Power FC just now when they seize to build the car ??? On the other hand, it should be a minor modification since most of the work is already done ... Or are you talking about AP engineerings power FC? They sell several modified Power FC's to work on non suported cars. I'm curious, but i doubt it is true.
  21. Just pulled this of from the UK's Dastek distributo's website: Check out the feature list below and compare it to any other engine management upgrade - we're sure you'll be impressed. Variable valve timing adjustment Rev limit adjustment Boost limit & level adjustment Dual maps for use with different fuel grades & types Water Injection Nitrous oxide progressive injection Bigger/supplementary injector handling Variable induction control Launch control for turbo vehicles Full throttle gear changes Road speed limiter removal Speedo conversion for imports Shift light Idle speed stabilisation It seems that this is the new unichip. all the other info I found on the net is concerning the old, simplified version. I think ...
  22. I never heard of an effect that would wear off. Around here PSI powerboxes are superpopular wich are essentialy super simplified piggybacks and never did i hear off the effect wearing off. But better safe then sorry so i'm looking up some long term dastek users. It not beeing on the website sounds right. He discribed the 'new' dastek as an update more then a completely new version combined with an optional lift controler. The dastek already could activate external stuff following certain conditions (rpms, temperature, throttle position) and they use that for an external lift controler (cheap option, about 100€ he said). I guess in time they will mention something about it on their website. To be honnest I'm still wondering which is the official website from Dastek. If it is this one : http://www.dastek.co.za/ i'm not even surprised the new stuf isn't on. That website is a joke, no usefull information at all. Anyway, i'll know fore shure once it is installed. The guy gives a lifetime guarantee on powergains and has a great reputation so i'm pretty shure about it.
  23. Wel wel, I'm just returning from my favorite tuner who had some good and exciting news for me. I already was pretty interested in the Dastek Unichip, it made some serious diferences already on our beloved 2zz-GE engine but was unable to change the shiftoverpoint between the 2 cams. I myself found that to me a pretty big shortcomming. As Northy made the step towards the PowerFC and got some great results it coucht my attention. Confirming the posible gains by dooing some research on american forums (where the power fc is popular) my mind was really getting set on getting a powerFC. BUT it would be easaly twice the price of a dastek and be limited only to my car, also waranty would be an issue since there is no official Apex'i distribution. 3 giant downsides to this solution. I told all this to my tuner and he said me to wait a bit because he was having a meeting in the UK with some Dastek people and see what they would think about it. So today I drove by to see what he found out. And it was all good :) Apparently Dastek just released a new version of their Unichip which does has the ability to change the liftpoint. Toghether with the things it already could do it commes pretty much on the same level as the Power FC but cheaper and universal for every car. Considering the fitting problems with the PowerFc to a corolla it just might be the ideal solution. So, as soon as I have some cash to spare this baby will be fitted and tuned. Unfortunately having cash to spare is rare for me so this wil not happen soon. But maybe someone about to go the PowerFC route should stalk his local Dastek dealer to look at this solution.
  24. You are SOOOOOO right !!! BTW, whats the speedlimit on highways in Australia?
  25. So ok, the bypass mod is not the way to go for me, cewl :) One less thing to break my mind over :) And the power FC not influencing the Airbags and ABS seems pretty logical but i'm more concerned about the Traction control and the Vehicle Stability System (VSC). Considering there working (especialy the TC) i'm pretty shure those are controled by the ECU itself. So i would lose those?? I don't even know if you aussies have the Traction control and VSC on your sportivo's ! Please enlighten me :)
