  1. Thanks guys. I just realise the chip hole on the empty key case as well. Will have to be very extra careful in removing it. Will take on mr2's idea on cutting the plastic around it and then carefully remove them just enough to fit it in. In case I do fail, and ruin the whole thing, what would be the consequence? Do I need to replace the ECU and transmitter on the car and reprogram the whole thing? Can only the dealer do it? (just in case :D) Thanks!
  2. Hello all, My wife's Yaris only key is broken at the tip (likely a common problem here I presume). I basically purchased this casing from this ebay seller, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281117169919, had the key blank cut properly and transferred the transponder (with a new battery) over. The two buttons on the new key works perfectly. The key also fit in the car and door perfectly. However, it wouldn't start the car and I realise the security light was still flashing when the new key was inserted in. I thought this would be an easy job as the entire transponder was just one single unit and it was just a matter of transferring it to a new body with the proper key cut. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem so. I can't get my head around why it does not work as I assumed the original key case (and the new one) is just a piece of plastic with a metal key. The transponder was the "key" here. But it did not transfer across. Please advise what I need to do it get this fixed short of "sealing" the broken key with a super glue. Thanks! Temjin P.S: Don't ask me why I didn't get a second key. We trusted a friend that she had more than one key, but it was never found.
  3. Hi rossco309, Thanks. I've got a few quotes from wreckers and they are all $110 delivered. Hope that will fix the problem. (I originally thought there could be an OEM part that "performs" better than the original one, guess no need for that now) :) Cheers, Temjin
  4. Hi guys, I just would like to know what are my options in replacing the Idle Speed Control Valve on my 99 Corolla Conquest AE112? I have already sent it to the mechanics for diagnostics and it's pretty clear that the valve is now faulty. And yes, the filter was cleaned in the last attempt to fix the problem but the OBD error code still show it is the idle speed valve problem. Is there an OEM part out there that could work on my car? Or do i have to buy a genuine Toyota part? Is it a good idea to buy a second hand parts? And how much would it roughly cost as well? (my mechanic is quoting me $400+ish just for a brand new part) I would be appreciated if someone can point me out where to buy one of these as well beside wreckers on second-handed parts. And if I were to look for a second hand one, what should I be looking for to make sure it would last another few years? Since it's "relatively" old car, I would like to keep the cost of repair down to as low as possible. Thank you very much guys! Temjin
  5. Hey guys, First timer here, and also newbie with cars. Here are some basic details first: Car Year: 1999 Make: Toyota Model: CBU Corolla Conquest Auto Liftback (AE112 Liftback) So anyway, my family has been taking the car to the original dealer for services/repairs since we first purchased it. After the last service, they noted that there were oil leaks in the front left strut and recommended me to replace both sides for $1,100 including wheel alignment. I have not acquired quotes from other places yet, but I just want to know if anyone else have recommendations on where else I can go to get the struts replaced? Is the price quoted by the original dealer unacceptable? (I believe the parts for the struts itself are quite cheap) If I want to use a non-OEM part, which brand I should go for? I live in Brisbane southside, so it would be great if anyone could recommend me to a good mechanic / place to get this done, as well as the next service at 150,000km. (also requires a timing belt replacement) Are there any suspension specialists that you guys would recommend? (south side again preferably) Many thanks!
