  1. check the sidewall and see what the tyre is rated for. Factory tyres on kxs are rated fo 50 psi. So 50 psi is perfectly safe and is what you should use if storing the car for a while.
  2. My KX-S came with 50 psi from the dealer. For best performance obviously 50psi is probably best but for comfort I keep it at about 40. When checking pressure at the service station I always put about 43 psi to allow for the fact that the tyres have heated up a bit from driving. @ 30,000km now and looks like I'll only get another 5,000km out of them. Maybe should have kept them at 50 psi. 50 psi makes for a harder ride though.
  3. What a whinger. That is friggin awesome service. I don't think they've ever even attempted to wash my car before.

    Side Steps

Get the bushranger bladerunner side steps. Way better than OEM. http://www.bushranger.com.au/press_release/blade.jpg I think they cost about $600 iirc + about $150 to install. Color happens to match my Silver Kluger very nicely.
  5. Unable or just not willing to break some rules? Is there anything in ADR about autolocks? Can't be any logical reason to ban it that I can think of. Would be interesting if someone could get a hold of the configuration device to see what really can or can't be done on the Aussie Klugers. I doubt they would make a special logic chip just for the AU Klugers.
  6. I just got the sheep skin inserts for the front seats. That would probably work on the 2nd row seats too. Comfy, cheap, looks good, protects seats and doesn't get in the way of any airbags. I think I got mine from Autobarn.

    Gas Conversion

Funny how this thread died as soon as oil prices plumetted. Anyone get the new LPG system? Probably not really worth the hassel with oil at current prices and likely to fall.
  8. The Kluger's 3.5L 6 cylinder is an awsome engine, for city driving at least. The first thing I'd want to change with the Kluger is to replace the transmission with a 6 or 7 speed automatic transmission. The 5 speed is a bit crappy for a $50k+ car. If I was living in the country I'd probably opt for the Prado diesel.
  9. what's the advantage of this over getting something that fits just in the double din like something from kenwood or pioneer? Get to keep the third din slot for putting your pens and stuff.
  10. I wanted the Crystal Pearl but my wife thought "silver looks more expensive". I had no say. Silver's not bad but white would have been bettere IMO.
  11. I know this is a Toyota forum, but Honda have a pretty good people mover I hear. Have a look at the it.. (Odessy I think).

If anything Toyota might release the hybrid Kluger here as they already have in the US. I wouldn't mind a turbo on the 3.5L V6 but it's not worth it considering the cost. After spending money on a turbo it probalby just makes your Kluger worth less. I'm thinking might get an old MR2 or Celica for fun (if I ever sell my motorbike).
  13. When you fill up, if you can put 70 litres in it then you've pushed it pretty much tot he limit. So when the fuel light comes on I'm pretty sure you would only be able to put about 60 litres in the tank at that point.

I thought that test was supposed to test the stability control, so although they were deliberatly trying to roll it, it shouldn't have rolled had it worked properly. They did the same test on the Territory and it didn't roll. Of course all SUVs will have a tendency to roll more than a sedan or station wagon. The higher the centre of gravity the worse it will be. I think the Kluger just has a higher centre of gravity or perhaps slightly narrower width. Better for off road but worse on road. That said, I thought the Kluger handled better than the Tribeca and Murano that I test drove though I didn't try to roll them.
  15. Rubbish. If my 4 month old daughter is going to grow up to be an astronaut she needs to start her training now.
  16. What is it with people that are willing to spend thousands for DVD... in a car? As if kids don't get enough of that kind of crap at home. Why not throw a $150 portable DVD player in the back for kids? TV and DVDs rot kids brains anyway so better off putting some books in the back or maybe a DS for under $200. It probably costs Toyota under $100 to put the DVD in the back of the Altitude. KX-S is better value IMO.
  17. How hard/expensive would it be to get the ignition and stearing wheel lock from the Grande fitted to the KX-S? Might get lucky at the wreckers.
  18. Insurance companies really hate customers who have multiple accidents as they are considered a real liability. If you have another accident any time soon I wouldn't be surprised if the acessor goes over your car with a fine tooth comb. Your luck may vary. I would also like to have the extra light provided by HIDs. Sometime in the future I may purchase HID driving lights for the Kluger to work with the high beams. Perfectly legal AFAIK. On another note, I think you can actually get HIDs fitted legally. However it has to be done properly by an engineer which is really expensive.
  19. I seem to remember the dealer telling me it did have memory, controled by which ever key opened the car. Typical wrong advice given by dumb car salesman. Most car salesman seem to have NFI about the products they sell. In that case I'm really glad I didn't waste the money on a Grande. Electric seats in the KX-S/Grande are a liability without the memory logic. They are so slow to adjust that I'd rather just have the manual seats. So about the only thing I'd want from the Grande is the smart key. Hopefully Smart-key will be standard in all cars sold in Australia withing 2 or 3 years. As of last year ALL Nissans sold in Japan have smart-key (or whatever Nissan calls it). It's probably getting difficult to find any car in Japan without it now. That's why I reckon there should be some after market options available pretty soon. PS I found this http://www.advancedkeys.com/Prod_IUI102.html Looks good and quite a bit cheaper than getting a Grande.
  20. Yes, and 6,000K is just stupid. Euro and Japanese cars that come with HID from the factory are only 4,000K to 4,300K (approx same as daylight) because it's the best/safest color. 6,000K will cause quite a bit of glare. The insurance acessor may not have noticed the HIDs but if your car looked ricy or if there was any hint that the accident was caused by glaring headlights then you wouldn't have got any insurance and you would have got a nice fine and demerit points to boot. This has been covered in various forums. Google is your friend. A recommended alternative to HID (since HID is illegal) is Philips Xtreme or Crystal halogen bulbs.
  21. This is still pretty new stuff, at least in Australia. I think there will be some viable after market opitons for our KX-S in the next couple years. It's more for my wife who would find it very convenient not having to rummage through her hand bag for the keys all the time. IMO Smart Key is the most appealing feature of the Grande. That and seat/mirror memmory. I thought the Grande had 2 seat memmories when I was looking at them. The seat position should automatically change depending on which of the two keys you use to open the car. With the electric seats and mirrors already in there you'd think it wouldn't be too hard to add the logic for memory.
  22. I rang AAMI.... and they say its all 100% cover by them.. they say its legal for headlight... but illegal if installed on fog light... Might be ok 'till you get an insurance inspector that finds HIDs on your smashed up Kluger. Then AAMI may not be willing to pay you out. Worse consequences is police find that it contributed to an accident.
  23. That's illegal and dangerous. You man not be covered by insurance in the event of an accident.
  24. The only things the I wanted from the Grande was the smart key and seat/mirror memory (has mirror memory doesn't it?). Auto headlights would be handy too but I'm sure I could get them after market pretty cheaply if I ever really wanted them. Anyone know if you can get seat and mirror memory installed on the KX-S?
  25. Dealer should have given you a separate manual for the sound system. Check the glove box.
