  1. Does this work with the 2003 corolla sportivo head unit? thanks Jeff Hi, I'm not exactly sure but you will have to have a look at the back of the unit to confirm if the plug is the same.
  2. For Sale: Blitz safe Toyota specific ipod adaptor. This unit plugs into the back of your toyota stereo (12-pin plug - see picture) and connects your ipod. I bought this kit specifically because it still allows you to control the music through your ipod (no lockout). All you have to do is connect it up to your cd changer port on the back of your stereo and it works well. $60 plus postage in Australia.
  3. Thanks SD, I have a facelift 2004 corolla (October built I believe), is there a way I could distinguish between the old/new style? Also, from interest, what type of grease do you pack a CV joint with? Sam
  4. Hi guys, I have noticed a very small leak of grease from my front passenger side outer CV boot. The boot has leaked about a teaspoon (for lack of a better measure) in a few thousand k's. I have inspected the boot but can't see any cracking or splits. The boot has the metal bands to tie it on that I don't have a tool for. Should I get a mechanic to repack the joint and tighten it up or should I do it myself? Anyone have some experience in the area or know where I could get the tools from? Cheers Sam
  5. I agree with unique. I'm a bit anal with keeping my car clean so the carpet vacuum didn't pick that much up (although the water was still a little brown) but I cleaned my brothers 94 accord and it took 8-10 passes on the same stretch of fabric for the water to not come out brown. I think it is not only good for the look of the car but also your own personal health - particularly if you spend a lot of time in your car.
  6. I have hired the carpet wet/dry vacuum cleaners from coles/woolies a few times and I think they are great. Not too expenseive (especially the 2nd time you hire as you will have chemical left over) and work quite well. Here is a good video of the process - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNMAmhGrxR8. Sam
  7. SteveAndBelle I get similar figures to you, you are not alone. I regularly get 750 kms from my 2004 levin and once hit 5.4 l/100km average (1000km/tank) on a trip to sydney. I measure my fuel consumption the only proper way by brimming the tank to the same point. I have continental ecocontact tyres at around 38 psi.
  8. I've worked as a tribologist (background in chemical engineering) and those tests are not valid. Anyone can grab a lubricity testing rig but it is complex to determine the results. Also, that test (and also the dyno runs - that guy needs to learn two words - repeatability and reproducibility) give such little information about the oil that the tests are irrelevant. As SuperDave pointed out, the only meaningful test of an automotive engine oil is the used oil analysis. At the end of the day, don't by no-brand oil and don't leave the oil/filter change longer than the log-book says.
  9. Thanks for the link, that's a handy website. One thing though, on the instructions for the remote programming for the 2001- corolla there are two options - one for UK and one for Japanese built cars. Which one do I use? Isn't my car built in South Africa?
  10. I agree that fuel doctor is a good product (I use it in my car) but speaking as a chemical engineer/chemist, that video on the website was absolute rubbish.
  11. Is 86 the Research Octane Number or the Motor Octane Number (American) because they are different. A MON of 86 correcsponds roughly to a RON of 95. I doubt anyone produces a petrol with a RON of 86. The octane numbers are a rough guide to the quality of the fuel, differing in the method of testing.
  12. Hey guys, Where is the best place to get a fascia kit for the ae112r to put in a single-din aftermarket stereo? What sort of price am I looking at? Cheers
  13. Thanks mate. I'm still working on getting it done. Is it possible to code the remotes for the doors by myself? Anyone? Sam
  14. Hey guys, Over the last two days the engine light has come on twice in my corolla. It happened at the same time on the same route (driving gf to work). Each time I was on the ICB in bris and not able to stop easily so the first time it happened I pulled up when safe and checked out the car. There was no loss of power/trouble shifting/smoke etc. WHen I pulled over there was no smells/smoke/steam, excess heat or anything out of the ordinary. All the fluids were perfect and the engine oil was spot on (changed 6000kms ago and still looks like it just came out of the bottle). When I started the car again the light was not there. Any ideas? Sam
