I had this drama doing my amps & sub,then i checked out what the manufacture said was the correct size for my sub,and i was surprised it was 1/2 the size the guys at the audio store were trying to sell me...this made sense as it had to be custom made not straight off their shelf,and now the sub & 2 amps use about 1/3 or a little more at most of my boot space and access to the spare is no prob,sounds very punchy aswell,i have the sub facing thru the back seat boot access hatch,centre armrest/drink holder down for bass thumping,closed for when less bass required...

That is a very clean setup, could you tell me the dimensions of that box? Im interested in getting a fit as nice as yours! How did you manage to secure the sub without it flying around the boot? I was considering some velcro feet but if you have a better idea id love to know.

Also if possible could you please let me know the width of the box to allow it to fit into that space between those arches?

I can't imagine how dark it is going to be below the legal limit.. mine is within the legal limit and initially i have problem reversing at night as there are no lights inside the compound and the tinting just makes everything darker.. and occasionally there are childrens running around the compound.. i have to always have to open the door and stick out my head just to make sure there are no children behind.. now with reverse camera, it's much much better..

I totally agree with you, legal tints are already hard enough to see behind you when there's little lighting and a spoiler makes it even moreso. If I didn't have sensors I would definitely be adding on a camera as the height of the car combined with so little visibility is just pure dangerous.

They should probably make it so that you have a permit before you're allowed to install a tint that's darker than legal.. But then again, it is your decision to put it on in the first place and by doing so you are taking the risk with nobody else to blame.

In that case that is a mighty fine set up. Very impressive, lights up the whole bloody street!

How did you get your alignment done? I'm considering chucking some HID's into the Aurion but I don't want to be causing glare either.

Which unit did he mean? The unit Alfred has posted is designed for the Aurion / Camry and will fit any model from 2006 until now. That is odd if he doesn't think it will fit, maybe he had another unit in mind.

Not only would it look funny, it would probably make it a lot more obvious that the rear ones are illegal too. I reckon either just keep it as it is, or change the tint altogether, keeping in mind they will probably charge you something like $50 to remove the old one too.

...Also, while driving, I remember hearing weird clattering sounds coming from the engine bay while accelerating after changing gears.

That has happened with my Camry before. You could usually isolate it to a certain gear, as in mine would start making noises going from 1st to 2nd. It was definitely the clutch though. Ended up getting a refurb gearbox, it cost me $2000 for that which is only expected to last another couple of years, so that's no good.

It sounds similar to your problem, because after a while my car could not even accelerate so I'm assuming you will be needing a new gearbox.

is this legal? cause i always wanted to do it to mine but im not sure if there will be trouble with the coppa's

Pretty sure it is illegal, though ive heard conflicting stories. Some people think only the headlights cannot be touched, while others say none of them are allowed to be tinted. But that said, I have read stories about people getting stickers for having tinted tail lights. Here in Sydney I saw a black IS250 with completely black tail lights; the only time you could see them was a very dull light when he used his brakes - so either way it's probably not a good idea to go too crazy with this, dont get me wrong though, it looked INSANE!

On a similar note, wouldn't dust be an issue there too? The main reason I don't drive with my windows down is that when I do, there's always a load of dust flying through because a lot of trucks transport all sorts of things where I travel. I might look into a pollen filter or something for that.

Damn, that is pretty steep for a manual with 200, 000 km on the clock, even from a dealer. Is this for the 4 or 6 cylinder model?

Technically the 4 cylinders have a higher market price these days because of fuel consumption, though I still wouldn't be paying that high a price for a 15 year old car with 200, 000 kms. Should try and talk it down to $4k at least, and even then it might still be a bit steep, but $5k is just daylight robbery!

Definitely the clutch, I have a 94 Camry on the 102, 000 mark and it has had 2 gearbox swaps, the first time the car wouldn't even move, second box was refurb and they told me it would only last a year so that was expected. However, the pumps and timing belts should be changed every 100, 000 odd kms. My roof is also very saggy which is annoying as it sits on my head when i drive the car, not good.

Yeh that's about right. Toyota will just try and sell you their unit, which is anywhere upwards of at least 2-3 times the price of the eBay unit. If you're out west I can highly recommend LifeStyle store. They are located at The Junction (2 Windsor Road, Northmead/North Paramatta). If you go speak to them there they will direct you to their workshop at Barney St. They will try charging you around $230 or so, but you can most likely talk it down I'm guessing, just let them know there's no wiring that needs to be done and they will probably let you have a cheaper price.

That looks great! I wanted one for my Aurion ATX - wondering if any modifications to the original setting voids the warranty - as I have bought my New Aurion 6 months ago. And do you know who could install it for me. I have seen few posts on DIY but rather get someone fit it professionally rather than I trying or testing on it.

In regards to warranty, you will not void warranty of your car, although you will more than likely void your warranty if the installation of the headunit is a direct cause of a malfunction, ie, if you manage to damage a component of your car during the removal process of the trim, or if it short circuits and something goes astray in your dash.

Installation-wise you're best off posting your location so maybe someone will give you a hand during a meet, but if you truly want to pay around $250 to a professional car place to do it for you someone will probably suggest a place for you. Although with this type of unit, it should have a socket that fits the Toyota harness directly so it is a matter of plugging it in then choosing a suitable mount point for your antenna. The reverse camera will be tricky though and you can ensure that the professionals will be charging you a LOT extra for that.

I dont own one of these so dont take my word for it, but usually these types of "OEM" headunits are juts plug and play, meaning you connect it to your original loom and you will keep your steering wheel controls, unlike most aftermarket head units

Hey wow that is a much nicer interface than the Auspack unit, however we will see in a couple of months if the quality is any good, although for that price i wouldnt be complaining.. If i hadnt bought the AVN-6000 2 months ago this would definitely have been a strong contender for me.

Hey guys, well today i was driving and i heard a loud bang from the back of my car, turns out a tree branch fell on it from quite a height. Now what i can see if i look really closely in that area are slight scuff marks (in around 3 or 4 areas that the branch must have hit on the way down) including 2 very slight dings. Any suggestions for the best way to remove the dings + scuffs?

I have read that Scratch X 2.0 can probably be used to get rid of the scuff marks however i have no idea how i will be able to remove the dings. If the only way to do this is through a professional then i wont even bother, the damage is impossible to see unless you know its there, and the dings can only be seen when there's light reflecting off the surface, however the fact that this is a new car is what annoys me.

So any ideas?

Looks to be just a simple led light cover, they will probably sell those things at the electronics section of Tandy or ***** Smith, it's just a coloured cap. Otherwise you could probably buy a child's toy at a $2 store and you'd have every colour under the rainbow

Will simply changing the air filter with the K&N one make any difference?

That SRI sounds insane, though i got a feeling this type of job will be too difficult for me to pull off

I have the standard Michelin Energy (not sure which model) that came with my car and honestly i cant really complain. I haven't driven with those $500 a corner tyres before so maybe that is the problem, however, i cant really justify spending that much on my car when it is just used as a commuter vehicle. I'm not sure about the price of the Michelin Energy's but maybe someone can shed some light, although i doubt they're too expensive considering they did come stock, but honestly, i am very happy with these tyres.

Do Presara's use the same projector as the other models? Cos if that were the case wouldn't a HID retrofit of the same temperature as a Presara be just the same as the car that comes with HIDs as standard?

An alternative i've been thinking about is putting those Philips Crystal Vision globes into my headlights, would that give off a "HID look"?
