  1. are you sure this wasn't the traction control beeping? were you cornering, was it wet or slippery?
  2. Ah that's good to hear the part they're ordering is correct. Coolies. Hmm I reckon you should take yours back if the noise has resurfaced. They'll see on the system that you've brought it in before for the fix. It's amazing how bad the service in one dealer is compared to another not too far away. Same thing happens in Canberra even though they are all owned by one parent company. Also, the issue with my leather seat is being resolved- they will refit the bottom part of the seat. Which is good because the car only has 24,000kms and it was a Toyota exec who drove it as a demo before me! Really happy with Toyota at the moment, has restored a bit of confidence in them.
  3. wow when i started this topic I hit 36,000 kms in my 2005 Kluger in April 2011. Sold it at 50,000kms and bought another kluger (2011 model) which has just hit 24,000kms.
  4. One thing I would recommend is to check your insurance policy - i'm pretty sure if you haven't secured the vehicle (i.e. locked and all windows up) you're not covered... that's about $35K gone right there..... :)
  5. The part number is 4522048181. Please tell me this is the new design! :)
  6. it's very unlikely a smash repairer would do this... and you would usually be able to tell if they had removed the engine. But if for some small reason they did swap your engine, you could sue the pants off them and take it to ACCC / fair trading. Why did you go to that smash repairer if it was dodgy?
  7. I have noticed a slight knocking sound/feel in the steering lately (since the cold weather) especially is going down a ramp or sloped driveway. I ended up going to Toyota today and went for a drive with a technician. Although the technician didn't feel it, they kept the car to check it out further. Later in the day I got a call advising they would be ordering a new intermediate shaft from Japan. I have the part number too if people would like to know what it is... They advised it isn't a safety issue and the car is still drivable. My car is almost out of warranty (2 more months), but it only has 24,000kms so I'm really happy the current part is getting replaced. I'm actually happy with the way this turned out, seemed to be no fuss at all. The only other issue with this car has been the leather seat on drivers side. It seems to have excessive wear especially for the age and milage of the vehicle. And I'm not 'overweight' at all either... mm.
  8. Hi everyone, My car is going to sit for approx 3 months while I am on deployment with work. What is the best PSI to use when sitting in a garage? I will get someone to drive the car once every 3-4 weeks for 15-20kms. So I don't want the PSI to be too high because the car will actually be driven periodically. Any advice is appreciated. Regards Matt
  9. Can you get higher load rated tyres for the 19 inch rims? You need to be careful of insurance as any accident that MAY be a result of tyres will mean the insurers will wipe you. Also the placard can be replaced by the dealer if you buy a genuine Toyota rim set- they can update details through the system to match the vin. I recommend calling toyota to explain the situation and the fact they are GENUINE wheels. The dealer is being dodgy, they are prob ****** they didn't get the full price at time of sale.

    Stereo

Yeah I checked on the US forum and it's a feature of the stereo. Its hooked up to the speed to try and cancel or overcome any drivetrain/outside noise. The grande uses a different system so maybe that's why yours doesn't do it. It's actually a pretty good feature tbh especially if you like your music loud but don't want it blaring at the lights.

    Stereo

Hi Does the Kluger stereo automatically adjust/reduce volume when the car is coming to a stop, like at traffic lights? Mine seems to do it Matt
  12. I understand that it obviously wears the gearbox a bit more but "significant damage"? If I'm going fast I usually tap the accelerator before shifting back to D to prevent jolts. Not sure if that helps. I'd thought this practice would mean I'd maybe have to rebuild the transmission at 280,000km instead of 300,000km. How long these boxes supposed to last? I haven't found out exactly the reason why, but I've seen a few internet articles/opinons to the effect that it's ok to use neutral in a manual but not an Auto. I think I'll stop doing it. Not sure that N can be used for anything. I think neutral is used to towing vehicles. Someone correct me if I am wrong. But yeah, I have heard you shouldn't shift into neutral if the car is in motion due to stresses on the transmission, also because you don't have full control over the vehicle. Can anyone explain when you would use the sports shift? I haven't used it yet, besies being a good marketing tool, what is the point of it? Matt
  13. Mine is a 2011 too, and I notice this smell when the aircon is first started after it has been off. I believe it has to do with the vents being wet from the cool air and then creating mould/mildew which causes the smell. The only way I can think of fixing the problem would be to replace the cabin air filter, do an aircon clean and before you arrive at your destination turn the air con off and have the fan blowing at full strength to 'dry' out the vents if that makes sense... It's really annoying because the car's are basically brand new. Matt
  14. Very nice! Just googled those wheels, they'll look good on the kluger. Did you get a good price for yours? Any other inclusions? What are you going to do with your stock wheels? Matt
  15. Hey Don Deff get it!! Toyota has a five day sale, started yesterday and you get on roads paid for and $1000 worth of free stuff. My current Kluger is in such good condition but the age is a killer- 8 yrs old this yr. also, I believe this will be the last generation of klugers built in Japan. So I decided I'd buy this generation - hopefully all the the bugs have been ironed out by now. If u get the altitude, there's only four colours to choose from. Also I believe stock is getting low due to being a limited edition, this is probably dealer talk though but if u really want it just do it :) Cheers Matt
  16. I actually really like this nudge bar, compared to the genuine toyota one. I just bought a new kluger with this nudge bar, and it's disappointing it's not like the old version where it was high and went above the grille. I don't even know why toyota borthered with this type of nudge bar. My current (soon to be gone) kluger has the high nudge bar - looks so much better.
  17. Hi All I just bought a brand new Altitude SE in pearl white, and traded in my 2005 CV Sport. I decided to opt for the 2WD as I never take the car off road, and if I do it's only on roads that a corolla could handle. Looking forward to some savings in fuel too. Got a nudge bar thrown in along with a special $1000 worth of free gear (I opted for the headlamp and bonnet protectors, weathershields, rubber cargo mat, floor mats). I can't wait to pick her up, not sure how long I'm going to have to wait! Anyone else have the new Altitude?? Best thing about it for me is the sunroof - always wanted one, and the GPS, DVD player and reversing camera. Also happy with the 19 inch paws!! Cheers Matt
  18. What's the update on this? How'd it happen?
  19. Just an update from my original post. I've now hit 50,000 kms, and she's still going strong! I love it, can't wait to get in and drive it every day.
  20. Anything but the genuine nudge bar doesn't look as good in my opinion. I would pay a bit more for the genuine one.
  21. Hey everyone I was wondering whether the Prado stock rims on the 2nd gen model are polished steel or whether they are painted titanium silver (like the klugers)? I think the painted is also called 'gunmetal grey'... Btw I'm not talking about the basic model steel rims (gx model I think?). Cheers Matt
  22. They will always overcharge for the actual hours worked. I got charged 45 minutes worth to change the front and back wiper blades.... you've got to be kidding. But I'm not surprised that it costs that much for the 80K -- it's a major service and to be honest it's not as bad as I thought it would be given it's a V6 AWD. Cheers Matt
  23. I use BP Ultimate (having tried Vortex and VPower) and i must admit that BP Ultimate wins hands down.. its a bit pricier than the others but the cold start up is quieter and the car seems to be more nimble especially when accelerating from a stand still.
  24. I just hit 36,000 kms today. What about everyone else? Cheers Matt
  25. You should have said it was the Merc GL. Nice one!!! I almost bought an ML320 in 2005, but the insurance was crazy. Well done on the purchase!
