  2. Thanks guys, the 200 doesn't actually "feel" as quick as the MPS due to it having a 5 speed and laggy turbo. ALso prob down on torque compared to the MPS, which we all know makes a car feel quick. But the 200 is putting down a safe 185rwkw (approx 230kw at fly) so it goes alright. Strawberryface - you MUST have seen an Aurora Blue Mazda 3 MPS parked at the base level of the multi-storey, it has MPS stickers all over it and i think i have seen your Stivo on quite a few occassions, if the white one with an exhaust mod is yours? ;) Car was stolen from Banks St. though, next to the platform. I sometimes do arvo shifts so the multi-storey would be full.
  3. Guys, for those that didn't know, my MPS was stolen 2 months ago from Padstow train station never thought it would happen to me but it did. It was also a couple of months after i installed the coilovers and tyres too, mods were still brand new and yet to be tested on the track. I also just renewed rego and paid for fullcomp worth over $2G. However i was lucky the insurance company didn't give me too much grief and paid me out but i had to rent a car for 6 weeks and there were many personal belongings in the car that couldn't be replaced. I have moved on since and have a new ride now! | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | \/ 00' Nissan 200SX S14a Luxury :P paid quite a few gorillas for it because it was immaculate, one owner, modded with over $10G worth of stuff and only had 32,000kms on it. :)
  4. Hello people, i got my "Safety Recall" done last week and just like the Sportivo's we get a sticker on the door jam. It was a 2hr jobby and i applaud Mazda for jumping on this quick smart. Apparrently they replaced the no. 4 transmission bolt to a stronger material, its 1cm longer and tightened to a higher torque specification. It has been 30,000kms and car drives great! :) I recently added Mazdaspeed Coilovers which lowered it slightly (25mm) and Azenis RT615 tyres and it now handles much better (but very stiff on Sydney roads) with less of that "floaty" feeling. p.s. was gonna add pics but they are too low quality and mine looks virtually stock anyway :P
  5. You guys are getting way too wet over this car! :P Dry up boys, i don't think it's as good as it seems. It's a good car being a Honda but up against the competition in the $40k price bracket it is figthing a very tough battle. Don't believe any UK mag reviews either, they are just trying to boost production for the UK built Civic Type R. Wait till it lands locally and in the US and read their reviews. As someone mentioned it comes with torsion beam rear setup, and WHEELS has already tested the car and said its what they have been worrying all along, that Honda going for a more cost effective Torsion Beam setup has taken a backward step in the handling department. Hondas have always been good handling cars because they were reknowned for their double wishbone setups in the past but now i think they have really gone backwards. The engine and gearbox might be good but just look at the power/torque:weight, its not very good for an NA car with only 192nm of torque. It weighs in at approx 1330kg, thats 100kg more fat than the Integra Type S which had 154kw and similar torque. Don't forget the Type S has similar engine and gearbox ratios as well. I really think Honda has missed the hot-hatch boat, there are too many choices on the market now, and sure it might attract 1st time Honda fan boys and people that love to rev and prefer NA instead of F/I (which i suspect most would have already paid much less money for a Corolla Sportivo ! :D ). The JDM Sedan Type R is more like it with the REAL 8800rpm K20A pumping out 168kw@8400rpm/215nm@6100rpm with 210nm of torque available from 3000rpm. I lioke the VTEC cam changover point of 5100rpm though, it's a cool 1000rpm lower than the 2zzge.

Like the others said, hi-performance cars esp. turbos are tuned pig rich from factory so it can be normal to see them pump a bit of black smoke out the back end when flooring it, but in mine it doesn't happen much at all. Even in my ex Sportivo it had a bit but only very rarely. With my MPS the exhaust tip turns black almost immediately after i clean it lol Also people that mod their cars, certain mods can make the car run richer/leaner like vent to atmosphere BOV/intake/exhaust mods.. so that MPS blowing smike could either have installed a fullysik vta BOV causing the ECU to dump more fuel and hence all those smoke (unburnt fuel). I highly doubt that guy blew his turbo, especially being such a new car but you never know.

Hey guys haven't logged in for ages, and first thing i noticed was this thread! hehe.. well i have done 22,000kms on mine and not one single issue.. best thing about it is there are no rattles! :P :P Guys that drag their cars don't seem to have problems with their mounts and none of the other daily drivers on Ozmazda forum do either, so i can bet with you the dudes that broke theirs would have to had been abusing their cars or be running very low tyre pressure and lauching the car hard. Mind you a lot of MPS3s have been sold worldwide and these are the only few incidents i have heard of. ;) If you thrash it you will break it.
  8. hehe guys guys calm down.. The MPS3 doesn't get full boost in 1st and 2nd as mentioned (restricted to about 75% of max, max is 15.7psi) and also has a steering angle sensitive torque limiter to help reduce torquesteer and wheelspin when greater steering inputs are required.. also through experience many MPS3 owners have found that switching the DSC OFF (traction control) makes the MPS3 much quicker.   14. could they run have run different smaller gear on the SC therefore raising the boost? its not all about power at the wheels, its about grunt or torque and the power/torque curves. With FI there will be so much more torque available and a much flatter torque curve. Obviously the more hp we can get the better but i think blitz wanted to tune something that is reliable yet be much better to drive on the street for eg. overtaking, driving up hills etc.

Seems like the Americans are loving their Mazdaspeed3 (MPS3) :D reviewd better than most fwd competitors already and now spanking an AWD competition, the WRX TR but to be fair to the WRX, the reviews did say the WRX TR wore mud-snow rubber than summer rubber, but still no excuse, its got awd doesn't it?? :P Sorry Dave if you are reading this.. just that some WRX drivers get on my nerves!!!   16. Well thats the plan .... oh and a few bigger fish as well hopefully Alert sounded on the Mazda forums :P In the times of turbocharged hot hatches, the ladder goes like this.. Bill will have to take down the Astra SRI turbo first, then the Golf GTI, XR5 Turbo, Renault Megane F1, and maybe the HSV VXR before the Mazda 3 MPS :P :P Hopefully by that time Bill would have overheated so the Mazda has a better chance But seriously that's a very nice job with the 2zz Bill, that turbo of yours looks better than mine.. what is it? wanna swap with my Hitachi K04? Would be interesting to see what sort of torque it will punch out. Power to weight definitely goes to the Stivo. Can't wait to see more stuff like intercooler setup, oil cooler for track?... were the stock injectors giving enough fuel?
  17. Nope, 14-15psi is what they run out of the single scroll K04 turbo. Its definitely at max efficiency atm. Gotta wiat to see what the US does to this thing, some have already ordered AEM CAIs or the like here in Australia. Me for one is pretty happy with its performance already, only thing i think it lacks is rwd or awd+super ayc to kick some EVO/STI azz .

  24. The Ralliart Colt has the same seats as the EVO 8 MR. I took one for a test drive from (delibritley) Toowong Mitsu, just so i was able to take it up and over Mt Cootha. It handles like NOTHING i have ever driven, been driven in before. With traction control and stability control in a car this small and light weight and the sticky tyres, the driving sure is fun. It has the usual ABS, EBD but also scores a 9" variable brake booster and brake assist. It also has a GETRAG gearbox. This car packs alot of surprises. While the styling is not to some's taste others will love it. I personally dont mind it and would consider it if Toyota dont get off their A*S*S and do something. We sit here and bag the car for being overpriced, when like ZEE said it came 5th in the Best Bang For Your Buck. Where was its competition??? Yep what Ash Red Rolla said is correct. It has a lot more gear and engineering thrown at it than the regular Colt. Seats were taken from the EVO8 MR, EVO gearknob, EVO 9 alloy pedals, MP3/WMA 6CD CDplayer, climate control aircon, 30% stiffer bodyshell due to 1.5 times more spotwelds, braces etc etc.. making it stiffer than the EVO's shell. I think this really contributed to how quick it is, plus power/weight ratio and good brakes and tyres. And even more shocking, i just found out its only 2 seconds off an EVO 9's pace at Wakefield Park!!! :o
