  2. sorry it tookso long to get back to you, but the guy with the hiace was away. He has just come back and now has changed his mind on wrecking the hiace. Sorry to leave you hanging.
  3. Well I've been given a 2L diesel and 5 speed box from a toyoace which I'm going to transplant. Out of interest what box is in yours and did they do anything with the brakes. May know who has a badge will check it out this week not sure what box as yet but believe it is from a 1990 vehicle. brakes are quite good actually, just had all new wheel cylinders put thru it before i got it but wouldn't mind converting to discs further down the track but they are definetly quite adequate at the moment but i am pretty sedate these days :P getting the carby on the 3y rebuilt this week in the hope it will cut down the fuel usage as it seems to be going thru it in it's present state. want to take it out and actually use it as intended ... look for ward to hearing about the badge.... thanks muchly!

  5. Did they have vin plates on the 1975 model. I have searched but can't find a vin plate. If there is one can you tell me where to locate it. Can you tell me which Hilux came out with a 5 speed column shift. Thanks
  6. After finding that with a rebuilt motor the previous owner had put a stuffed distributer back in with a 3 thou point gap, half working fuel pump and filter, etc, I have decided to keep the original engine and instead attempt to find a five sped box. Better to keep the old girl as close to original as possible after all she is 34 years old and still going well. All I really have to replace is the camper floor which is rotted. Other than that she is a great old girl
  7. Can any of you toyota wizzes out there help me. I have a 1975 Hiace with a 12R engine and a four speed column shift box. Is there a five speed box that will bolt in ? Do I need different bell housings or tailshafts ? Are there any other mods that have to be done ? Appreciate any advice that you can give.
  8. Hi to all from Brisvagas. Have just picked up a 1975 Hiace campervan built on a hiace pickup (which I never knew existed). Due to some medical problems I have been forced to retire at the ripe old age of 44 so I have a bit of time to restore the old girl then plenty of time to use her. I have been a Australian car man my whole life and this is my first toyota. The first thing i noticed when i started researching her was how many sites world wide are dedicated to toyota and how helpful the toyota people are. I have already sold my ford and think this is a relationship that is going to last. I am now turning this camper into my home and about to hit the frog and toad. If anyone can expand on the history of these vehicles I would enjoy the knowledge. Nice to meet all you great toyota people.
  9. I have just purchased a 1975 hiace pickup with a camper back. If it is the same engine ( I don't know the engines this far back ) I will happily send you some photos. Send me the engine code and I will check. I would possibly be interested in your LPG system if it is in any sort of condition, I have worked on LPG for the last couple of years.
  10. I have picked up a 1975 hiace pickup with a camper on the back. At the present it has a petrol engine (I am guessing 1.6 L) and is underpowered, can anybody tell me if that model came out with a desiel and if so what one
