  1. what about keeping it in the family and looking at some TRD aurion brakes? althou it'd probably be about the same price if not more exy...

great idea thou lee! some big brakes would set it off!!

  2. For people who are using HID kits on their Aurion did you have to lower the projector headlight?

just a fraction, but that was only because from factory they were pretty uneven... bear in mind the passenger side will be a bit higher..

on this note, have ordered some philips 4200k replacement bulbs to replace my 6000k ones.. cant wait to see the difference..

  3. have temporarily replaced with with a "10" fuse which was a spare fuse located in the engine fuse/relay compartment... will this be ok for the short term until i can haul my ***** off to buy a replacement 7.5 fuse?

any negative side effects i running a 10 in place of a 7.5?

    I wouldnt do that.

Have you noticed your lights are brighter than they would have been with the 7.5 fuse?

I'm not sure 7.5 to 10 is a huge jump but using a larger fuse on electronics made for small fuses can cause fires.

Increasing the fuse size will not make your lights brighter. Simply Ohms laws say I = V x R

    e.g 1. for a 100W driving light 13.8(volts) x 1.7(ohms)= 8amps, 13.8(volts) x 1(ohm) = 13.8 amps

    e.g.2. for a 100W driving light 24(volts) x 1.7 (ohms) = 14amps, 24(volts) x 1(ohm) = 24 amps

So to increase the brightness you would have either to increase the voltage (you would not have done this, unless you modified the existing circuitry) or decrease the resistance (you would have only done this if you increased the wattage of the light).

I think you said you were installing LED's so these would generally draw less - even thou they may look brighter it has nothing to do with the fuse. LED's simply have a more focused beam - similar effect to low voltage down lights versus a normal light globe.

I shouldn't have to say this but not everything you read in a forum is true, if in doubt research it or listen to those with the most creditable background in a particular area that is being discussed and then still research it.

You should replace the fuse with the same size as original as it is there to protect the wiring not the device. 7.5A fuse will not protect a 20mA LED, it is there to absorb the cumulative loading on that circuit.

(for the record part of my background is electrical trades, electronics trades, industrial electronics, with certificates in all of these together with 33 years experience doing this type of work).

yeah, as i said, putting the 10A fuse was only a temp measure to get me by for 1 night... went to toyota the next morning to get the proper fuse and replaced it immediately. all is well now. hopefully this thread will help someone else down the track

thanks everyone for all your help. much appretiated

  4. rowan you have reply... lol

seriously though guys... i'm not trying to be all secretive and sh!t like that... its just that if the car has already been sold, then there is no point talking about it cause i'll have to go back to the drawing board... :(

good luck with the sale and purchase of the new ride mate :)

hopefully the TRD goes to as good a home ;)

  5. but dosent the presara come stnd with 17x7's and share the same body as the ATX?

damn, was wanting to get the adrenalins again when they wear out too! :(

Tyre placards (which dictate standard tyre size and load rating) are usually specific to each individual model.

yeah, looks like the only potenza tyre is the RE050A which has a 98 load rating.. *sigh* more cashola goneee

sorry Davo for bringing this tyre thingy ...

    I can't get the tyre & wheel 17" kappa deal ... so going for 18" kappa :)

nah if anything you've done me a favour! would of been gutted if anything had happened and got knocked back from insurance.. plus gotta keep it safe ;) so thanks! :)

heavily considering the RE050A's but will look at other brands before purchasing.

  7. 800 budget max?

    these would be my options:

    1.

    headunit - Alpine iDA-X303 rrp AU499.00

front speakers - Alpine SPS-600Ctype S front component speakers rrp AU249.00

total (without installation charges) = $748.00

    2.

    headunit - Pioneer DEH-5250SD rrp AU349.00

front speakers - Pioneer TS-A 1702c component speakers rrp AU269.00

    rear speakers - Pioneer TS-A6973E6 x 9 rrp AU179.00

total (without installation charges) = 797.00

of if u just want to splurge on the best quality headunits for the money....

    SQ set up (under 800.00)

    Alpine CDA-117E

    Alpine iDA-X305

Pioneer DEH-P80RS (reference series) $799 RRP

or if you want a all in one type f headunit..

clarion MAX386VD (double din DVD headunit)

  8. 215/55r18 (correction... R17) for re001 comes with 94 load rating but aurion atx needs 95 ... from redbook specs, sportivo is 93 so it's ok for sportivo and not atx?

That is correct. The AT-X requires a higher load rating for some odd reason so you will need to look for other tires.

whoa, hrmmm thats news to me... any reason why the atx would need a higher load rating?? adverse effects that could arise from using a 94W tyre on the ATX?

  9. so davo, did u end up getting these?

when i first saw these, i thought they looked too similar to the Toyo Teo Plus's

and michelin also stated the same benifits and ability to the Toyo's. The toyo's were out a full 3-4years before these michelins.

I've had my toyo teo plus on 215/55/16s on for 2.5yrs, and have done around 37,000kms on them, all i can say is, they are absolutely brilliant for $160 or UNDER per pot, made in japan tyres.

its unbelievable how much tread i have left seeing i run these tyres to the ground...

alot of tyre manufacturers are copying the toyo teo plus pattern tread :(

EDIT: oh and btw, very comfortable. extremely silient for the size, and my my, on the eastlink in vic, it always feels like your on air. for a threadwear rating of 300, its incredible. google these and u'll find so many ppl loving these on their rides!

ended up going for the bridgestone potenza adrenalins instead.. coming from the stock dunlops the bridgestones were a blessing in every department.

  10. Just officially signing up for the sports grill club... if you can call it a sports grill.....

I am still heavily considering colour coding the bottom grill to be Tungsten. VF-X doesnt liek the mesh, but my opinion is that the bottom grill mesh looks better than seeing through to the radiator.

    looking good there jeff!!

so tempted to put mine back on... just unsure of the look on the white.... hrmmmm

  11. Thanks mate. I will never get it to your perfection but at least it's better then before which is all that matters right now. B)

i dont think you'd want your car to be perfectly swirl removed...because its your daily drive...

so much so as sitting on your car will create a whole heap of swirls and new born scratches, and so the cycle beginnings and before you know it, your clear coat is feeling/looking awfully thin..............

wouldnt the abrasiveness (is that even a word) of the compounds you use have an effect on this?

ie if your constantly using 105/UC instead of 205/swirlX

from reading on MOL, semi regular usee of products as mild as swirlX and 205 dont seem to incur much damamge to the clearcoat thickness, unless we're talking about repeated applications over a good number of years?

i keep my car as swirl free as i can, even though it is my daily drive.. as i dont have the disposable to have a weekender.

normally i will rely on the wax to "fill" some of the minor swirls, but generally once i start seeing swirl marks without having to look for them, ill use the least agressive product i have to flatten them out.

  12. few things that you may want to consider and will make answering your question easier for others here...

    1. what is your budget?

    2. what are you looking to acheive from the sound system? (ie increase in sound quality, functions etc)

    3. do you plan on upgrading speakers/amps/subs/dynamat?

for the price of a lot of the genuine stuff, it may be worthwhile to look at an aftermarket headunit? check out brands such as Pioneer and Alpine..

  13. have temporarily replaced with with a "10" fuse which was a spare fuse located in the engine fuse/relay compartment... will this be ok for the short term until i can haul my ***** off to buy a replacement 7.5 fuse?

any negative side effects i running a 10 in place of a 7.5?

    I wouldnt do that.

Have you noticed your lights are brighter than they would have been with the 7.5 fuse?

I'm not sure 7.5 to 10 is a huge jump but using a larger fuse on electronics made for small fuses can cause fires.

yeah i did notice that the console lights were running a bit brighter than normal.

all is good, stopped by my local toyota parts centre (as SCA and others dont open until 9) and picked up a few spare 7.5 fuses... $1.50 each! yay!

thanks for all the help here guys ;)

  14. Well I got my green pad today in the mail, and I tested it out with megs swirl remover 2.0. After improving technique and finding the right speed and amount of product to apply, I can safely say I have eliminated/covered 80% of swirling. I don't think I can get any more then 80%. And I'm not willing to buy more products from now on until I finish what I have because its probably enough to last me a year and then some.

So far I'm very happy with it. I will be doing it properly (whole car) sometime this week. I'll be taking the car in tomorrow to Toyota for something and then few days later I'll start cleaning her.

great to hear its working out for you! good luck with the rest of the car!

  15. ok so turns out it was the "panel" 7.5 fuse that was blown, the CIG and PWR outlet were fine.

  16. hey everyone

    this is the scenario

was swapping some LED's out in my dash (gear box, cig lighter) just with some fresh LED

all was going well until i get to the cig lighter and put the wedge in, made a funny "buzz" sound for a split second and then i lost the gear indicator lights and cig light... im thinking its a fuse, as all the globes were working until then. i did have my parker lights switched on to make sure the lights were working when i stuck them in... which im guessing was my fatal mistake...

now im looking for my owners manual for a diagram of the fuse box... cant find the manual! argh

can someone please tell me what fuse i should be looking at? am i even heading down the right path i assuming the fuse has blown?

    thanks in advance

    Dave "the silly" DIY'er :P

  17. when we did 51DER's car, we actually wired them up to come on full with the brake lights, but still light up about halfway with the parkers. Personally I reckon this way looks the best, however it you need to wire in a resistor and diode to accomplish this unless the LED strip already supports it (I've installed 2 different types so far.)

thanks steven! i was udner the impression that they would only be "on" or "off"

    will look into this option.

  18. lol

ORRRR.... you could just get some ultimate compound (which is essentially the consumer version of M105) and buffing your car using your hand and proper technique to get yor car back to full swirl free shine.... the idea of the rotary potentially introducing more serious swirls really does worry me.. if only you were in perth, id lend you my DA...
