  1. Hi Guys Just wondering if anyone has used the cheaper oil filters? Supercheap have the Ryco R2648p for $25.99 (links below) Direct auto spares $7.90 Sparesbox $9.95 https://directautospares.com.au/f2648p.html?utm_source=google+shopping&utm_medium=google+shopping&utm_campaign=google+shopping&utm_term=google+shopping&utm_content=google+shopping&gclid=CjwKCAiA9aKQBhBREiwAyGP5lRGtHNHN1paI03dHu-fDH4mKPa7W91BTiK_YfW5Z6wSk2cXm7DWWRxoCjSYQAvD_BwE https://www.sparesbox.com.au/part/wesfil-oil-filter-wco67 It seems like pretty simple technology - specially arranged filter paper. I am considering trying a cheaper product. Keen to hear any experiences! Cheers
  2. BUMP What is everyone doing about ignition coils? I just had a set of spark plugs replaced with denso IKH20TT - it was throwing up an error which the auto electrician said was spark plugs. Car is 2008 Aurion and has done 180,000kms. Mechanic said the ignition coils are at 70% (or down to 70%??). Would you switch them out now, or wait until problems arise? The other thing is cost. Ebay has a no-name set of 6 for $140 vs $200+ each (well north of $1k). Has anyone got feedback on how good the cheap set is? Thanks!
  3. Hi Campbeam It cost $720 for me with my mechanic (dad's mate). This included a service and filter change, as well as the alternator belt change. All in all pretty good. Took him one Sunday arvo it seems. She's back on the road driving. The tow car company charged $130 (got 3 quotes) and the initial diagnosis cost $65 (Kmart tyre/auto) I am happy with the outcome. Cheers!
  4. Car has done about 115 000 Km I ended up having the car towed to my mechanic and he'll have a go at it today. He reckons 4hr labour plus pump cost and he's done it before... We'll see, maybe this car still has some legs!
  5. Hello My 2008 Sportivo zr6 decided to dump the radiator fluid on the floor. I am pretty sure the water pump is gone. Car is at the Mechanics who will diagnose my problem but I'm pretty sure it's the feared water pump that needs replacing. Has anyone had this replaced recently in Perth, and how much was it? I am bracing for a 2k quote (engine needs to come out, but some clever people can change the pump without pulling the engine) I drove the car a short while keeping an eye on the temp gauge, ensuring it did not go near the red zone. Will I have done any damage to the car? It was steaming but I gave it 30min to cool before setting off again (probably drove 3-4km in total). Pretty annoying to have to spend $$ on the car but I guess it wasn't too expensive to buy second hand, and this might be the last of it's issues. Thanks for interest
  6. Hi guys, I am thinking of changing the brake pads on my '08 Aurion - it started squeaking and I am not sure if it has been changed, ever (second car owner). Six months ago I pulled off my front wheel to check the thickness of the brake pad and it still looked OK. Is this guide applicable to the Aurion? http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/13169-front-and-rear-brake-pad-change/ (sorry I don't know how to hyperlink here) Thanks!
  7. Is there any way of updating maps without spending $300? That price is just a bit silly. My 2008 zr6 could probably do with a maps update soon....
  8. I took it to some mechanic who reckon's the leak is coming from power steering hose/pump. He degreased everything, reclamped the hose and flushed the PS fluid... All for a mighty $190. He wants to see the car again in case it's leaky in which case the pump or hose may need to be replaced. What's this RTV sealant? I might smear some on the connection of the hose to fitting, because it's still leaking.
  9. Cool, thanks. I'll discuss it when them when I get quotes for the job tomorrow
  10. Do you guys recommend Toyota doing it, or will it be ok going to a private mechanic? Also, a mechanic mate mentioned it might be worth putting in a new water pump and timing chain whilst the engine is out... but another guy said not to bother since the car only has 67k clicks... What are your thoughts?
  11. So I had a mechanic look at it for whom the noise conveniently disappeared.... Nothing wrong with the CV joint but he recommends me fixing the oil leak. It will be a big job which Toyota quoted $2.5k for.... Damn!
  12. Hi guys, My 2008 Aurion has done 67000km and has had an oil leak from the timing cover seal for the last few months. This is only a slow drip, so I haven't had it fixed yet. Today at the shops I was reversing to park when I heard a grinding/ticking noise on extreme wheel turn. I'm thinking this is CV joint, but could it be wheel bearing? Could the oil dripping onto the CV joint screw it up? Cheers!
  13. For a car built in Australia... It merely sounds "assembled" in Australia now. This car is hopeless with all of its oil leak issues.
  14. Hi guys, I've noticed a small amount of oil coming from my car engine - 2008 Toyota Aurion. I've been advised by Toyota that there's a leak in the engine timing cover which will cost $2500 to fix. The engine needs to be dropped out of the car and all of the seals refreshed. I've done some googling and there's a TSB for the lexus 2GR on this problem. The car's done 65000km. At the moment there's only a small amount of oil coming from the engine (a couple of drops per night). How long can I leave this before getting it fixed? $2.5k is a lot of money for a car I only bought 6months ago second hand...
