  1. Yes $800 bargain!! Im going down saturday morning to talk to him so im going to make sure his talking about a 2ZZ not a 1ZZ. The person who referred me to him said his brother owns a wreckers and can pull most of the parts from there. Im talking supply & fit alternator for a Honda Civic $120 and the alternator lasted 4 years until he sold the car.
  2. Xoom, It wouldnt be selling a 'dud' you can hear the noise at idle and it would be disclosed to any buyer and im sorry if you buy a private second hand car and dont have it inspected then its your own fault. It doesn't matter what it is now, im replacing the engine. Its turned out to be $800 for an engine with 30,000km the donor car had logbooks, odomoter working and engine running. It was rear ended. $400 to put it in so $1200 and its fixed Can anyone help out on what I need to do about changing the engine # with the RTA? also do I need to have it engineeered?
  3. Damn, well I'll be picking the car up tomorrow and working something out with the mechanic. He said the noise has quietened down so I'll see if it still annoys me. If not it'l be sold and I'll buy a Honda. I've got a good mate who's just become a fully qualified mechanic so might see if his interested in ripping it down in his garage and rebuilding it.
  4. Pistons can only be put in from above on the zz. Excuse the noobness but would that mean more or less labour?
  5. Im waiting on him to give me a rough price. Well I guess the Sportivo will be up for sale in the next few weeks.
  6. Ok, his just had a further look into it. Put Mobile 10-40 in and its quietened down a little. He said it could also be a bearing. About a month after I purchased the car I thought the oil looked a little low so I topped it up, so it might have fkd the bearing =(
  7. The engine has 70,000km on it it's not high enough for me to consider replacing yet, I haven't priced new engines but I've heard there pretty expensive. If its more then $1500 to fix then I'll trade the car in, I drive it maybe once a week because I can't stand the noise. I've had 3 mechanics tell me it sounds like the pins, maybe theres a seal around them thats gone? One of the mechanics said it's very common on Fords and they'l do 300,000km without it causing an issue.
  8. I posted a topic a while ago about a noise coming from the bottom of the engine. I've had a good mechanic look into it and he said his 99% sure its the Piston pins on cylinder 3 or 4. His going to try to put new oil in and see if that quietens it down, if not im going to tell him to pull apart the engine and fix it because I've stopped driving the car it's annoying me that much. Does anyone know roughly how much it'l cost to have the sump pulled and the pins changed?
  9. A mate did it to his made 117 atw before 207 after have got a video but its private so it wont post
  10. Thanks guys, so will the oil be alright to use if we have a 'hot' period
  11. With those kms i think you would sell it alot quicker by parting out first then selling close to stock
  12. Whats the difference between the 5w30 and 5w40. I always let the car warm up before i drive for about 3-5mins, by the time i put the laptop in the car, wave to one of the neighbours etc then the first 5 mins of driving is back streets so it doesnt really go over 2200rpm It was a free bottle of oil for a dyno comp I won, so i may aswell use it if i can
  13. I've been given a bottle of Nulon 5w40 fully synthetic oil from a competition the car was in. Im in sydney so the weathers pretty cold now, some morning the temp shows 12 degrees. Will it be ok to use?
  14. No it should be fine, the Getrag gearbox in my BMW used dex3 and it specifically stated ONLY auto box fluid. The supras come from factory with ATF aswell. I had a big concern with it and ended up going to my mechanic to confirm. I havent seen any evidence but it's meant to have less protection but will only affect higher powered cars that put alot of pressure on the box such as 4WD turbos. Running ATF will also reduce the drivetrain loss between the engine and the wheels as the ATF fluid it about 40% thinner then the standard fluid. I know a people who have highly modified cars who have switched to ATF and have never had an issue with the box or shifting. The ATF fluid seems to help with shifts alot. Alot of the newer cars use ATF fluid.

  17. Good to know im not going nuts, at least it doesnt mean waters going somewhere it shouldnt
  18. Today would be the first time i've driven the tivo in the rain in my 6 months of owning it. The metal sections (B frame?) between the front and rear doors make a loud noise when the rain its it, like its amplifying the noise. Anyone else have this issue? It's really annoying as its just behind my ear.
  19. Just after a standard set of sportivo springs Want to get them compressed and still have the standard ones
  20. Rather then saying that it would have been easier for him to say you mean 'lash caps'. I'll re correct myself on the hydraulic lifters. Either way the noise isnt meant to be there, and is being fixed tomorrow or Tuesday depending on if i can get out of my boxing session early
  21. He mustn't have looked in a 2zz head before, it doesn't have lifters. The sound is normal, nothing to worry about. 6 month intervals are the recommended time frame if you haven't reached 10,000km anyway. Umm... i think your the one who hasn't looked in a 2zz head, they have hydraulic lifters. Going in on monday, its a sticking lifter Mate watch yourself. Considering SuperDave has rebuilt a 2ZZ from scratch and put new cams in his 2ZZ head i'm pretty sure he knows whats going on with the 2ZZ. ALL 2ZZ'S MAKE THE DIESEL SOUND. STOP WASTING EVERYONES TIME WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING WRONG!!!!!!! hope you have fun wasting your money on monday fixing something that some mechanic has told you is wrong that doesnt exist :P i wonder what he's going to tell you he did once he takes the rocker cover off and realises its not a 1zz corolla like hes fixed before and it doesn't have hydralic lifers :P Yeah good one, go back listen to the videos im not talking about the diesel sound. Well if his rebuilt the engine from scratch, he would notice there is a non normal noise which about 10 people have all confirmed.

  23. i had that diesel noise on my bmw it was the timing chain, have the tensioner checked. That's what im doing. Even if its the VVT making the noise its getting changed, i cant stand it, fkn annoying and doesnt look too good. Im anal about anything i own, i take care of it all and im not leaving the rattle there.

Its going in on saturday morning, question is how do i get rid of it now that its there & whats making it
