Hi i have a 1998 Rav 4 and i want to adjust the tappets as they are noisy. Can you please tell me what the clearance is?

I am hoping someone can help me out. Im not really very good with cars and I am not sure what to do next. When I got into my car this afternoon my radio said "sec". I have all the security codes and instructions and tried to reprogram it the way I did when I bought the car (as per instructions) but the radio wont budge from "sec". It is a 2001 Corolla Ascent. My fiance disconnected the battery and we tried again but alas......still "sec" Anyone have any ideas? Do you think it is broken? Do I need to have it reset by Toyota? I am very sad. I love my Corolla and it wont be the same without my radio sing-alongs on the way to work :( HHHEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!
