Hello Trentmeyer, Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I will go and look at the Yokahama C.Drive tyers. A mate of mine suggested Bridgestone Potenza or Turranza tyres, as they provide good wet weather as well as dry weather performance. There are some deals going on about car tyres; if one buy three tyres then fourth tyre comes free. That means four for the prize of three. Can someone let me if this is a real deal or usual promotion to get the sales? k8canb

I live in Canberra and it is wet weather here, currently use Black Diamond tyres 205 65 15. These were cheap tyres and have lasted few years as I just drive in city with couple of trips to Sydney. The current tyres still have small threads but they have started slipping at the start as well as during turns. Please recommend me best tyres for safety as well as low noise. The cost is not a problem but durability, performance and low noise are required. Also like to know your experience in buying car tyres from COSTCO. Thanks in advance k8canb

Thanks for your repl, your explanation about managing effect on speedometre problems by choosing appropriate profile of tires to suit increased diameter of rims was interesting. Few years back I had made some enquiries with Canberra Toyota about stock alloy wheels for my Camry, I was shocked to see the price quated, it was something like $300 per OEM rim and that is why I did not go for alloy rims. I have not decided about buying from Ebay yet. Thanks again for the reply k8canb

Thanks for your reply Jeffy. I am a mature age person and 15 inch wheels should be ok for me. I wanted to know why a Toyota dealer is selling OEM wheels so cheap? I am sure OEM wheels will cost much more than $410 for a set of 4 rims with centre caps and nuts. If I change to 16 inch wheels, my speedometer will not read correct speed I think. I know people upgrade to higher diameter wheels, in such cases how they manage to know correct road speed? Is there any adjustment to make speedometer reascorrect road speed? Hope to hear from others as well. k8canb

Hi There are a number of wreckers in Canberra and Queenbeyan, try them and chances are one of them may have a towbar to suit your car. Some of them may even fit the tow bar to your car. If you want a new one then it is better not to go to your local Toyota dealer as OEM tow bars are expenssive. You may like to try after market ones like Hayman Reese or similar from local auto part shops. Hope this helps. k8canb

Hi Applegarth, Thanks for the reply, my Vienta is 1995 model is my second car (I also have Camry Altise 2005) and the rubber induction tube has lasted 17 years, yes the rubber parts do get brittle due to sun and Canberra cold winter and eventually crack. I bought a third party new tube from eBay and replaced myself, it is straight forward job without any dramas. k8canb

Hi all My Vienta 1995 model has suddenly developed a crack around the hose clip on engine side. At the movement I have wrapped tape and it is holding. I should replace it and it appear a simple job, however, I have noticed that air filter end is fixed to the engine bay which will not move with the engine. This will introduce some strain on the air induction hose, also while removing the air filter; the induction hose is strained again, resulting in eventual crack around the hose clip. I would like to know: 1. How long the hose lasts in normal use? 2. Any special care need to be taken while renewing this hose? 3. Any care need to be taken to preserve the life of this hose? 4. I just now read in today Australian Financial Review that Toyota Australia is recalling some 70,000 locally-made Camry, Camry hybrids and Aurions built between October 2011 and July 2012. Anyone know about the reason for the recall? K8canb

Not really answering the question there. Castrol GTX3 was a mineral base oil, whereas Mobil 1 is a fully synthetic. The price range is completely different and does not really help the OP out if he is wanting something like Castrol GTX3. On topic K8Canb, it appears Castrol have dropped the GTX3 and simply replaced the naming with their GTX Modern Engine range. Having a look at the specifications for the oil, the newer GTX Modern Engine oil meets and exceeds the specification of the GTX3 oil. So in that case, if you can't find any left over stock of the GTX3, you would be fine moving to the GTX Modern Engine. I have been using Caltex GTX3 in my 1995 (3VZFE) and 2005 (1MZFE) Camrys. Now a days I do not see this oil anymore in shops. Just wondering whether Caltex stopped selling this oil? What is the equilent oil ifI need to buy? Thanks in advance. K8canb

A friend of mine told me that gen 5 Camry (V6 only)/Avalon are being recalled for potential steering problems. Anyone know the details and VIN numbers affected? I have Gen 5 Camry Altise V6 and have not experienced any steering problems (so far). K8Canb

Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for like 5 mins, then reconnect, Please make sure that you have your Radio/CD unit security code. I did not have and has to pay $68 to the dealer to reset it. K8Canb

I had no alternative and took the car to local Toyota dealer and I waas charged $65 to unlock the code and rest the code of my choice. They said the unit has to come out of the car and the entire thing take one hour of the labour. K8Canb

The unit in my Camry is CD/Casset/radio, I thought about replacing it with China made CD/Radio/GPS/Reversing Camera etc etc. Cost of $500 plus installation was above my pensioner limit. Anyway, thanks for the info, I will have to see how to find $30 this week. Why not aftermarket radio shops do it for $20 :)

Hi DJKOR, When I replied and indicated that I have found the info, I was in hurry to go somewhere and the information I found is actually in the Toyota Camry Owner's manual page 105-106 (Part No. 01999-9B156). Anyway, I am in big trouble now as the code I have is not working and the previous owner has forgotten the real code which he changed. What are my options now? Will Toyota dealer get me the code or can the anti-theft system disabled? How? Who? Where? If the dealer can do this what are the approximate charges? I am going to local dealer tomorrow. My battery died as a result I need to enter the security code into my radio/CD/Tape palyer. I have the code but like to know what is the exact procedure to enter the code? Thanks in advance. K8Canb

Just to let you all know,the problem of my radio drifting stations has now vanished and the radio operates perfectly normal. However, I am not sure what was wrong and what made the problem go away as I did not do anything to the car or the radio. :) K8Canb
