  1. Well kept MR2 (both SW20s and AW11s) are hard to find!

A standard steering wheel shouldn't be too hard to find on the 2nd hand market, I remember selling my one for the cost of the night's meal at an MR2 gathering!

The original wheel will be repaired and stored.

The plan for this car is to fix its issues and keep it standard. I am not aiming for a concourse car.

The next item is the seats.

Does anyone know if the original seat fabrics are still available? My interior is blue.

  2. The trim clips are done... So bloody simple to do it beggars belief why the last owner didn't do it. (clips from supercheap)

Steering rack has been repaired... Bushes were shot.

New JVC Bluetooth head unit and 4 JVC speakers fitted after fixing the butchered wiring. Taught my son how to install a head unit and speakers.

I have a MOMO wheel amd Boss kit now. I will keep the original wheel I have been told how to repair the the dis-bonded section.

I taught my son how to service it last weekend. This weekend he learns how to adjust the clutch pedal and bleed the system.

    Future items

Seat re-trim.... Still deciding on leather or cloth lucky for me we can do the re-trim at home. I am thinking leather...

On a brighter note my Mini Cooper D Chilli arrived this week. I ordered it August. The Harmon Kardon audio system is just bloody awesome for an OEM system.

  3. It has arrived...

First it is a 20 year old car so I wasn't expecting much. But it is ok for the money spent on it.

    Questions.

    1. The power antenna is that shared with any other Toyota's? Someone decided they didn't like the installed one and snapped it off.

    2. The steering column cover again is this part shared with any other Toyota.

It needs a wheel alignment the steering feels a bit dead.

The engine feels nice and strong

The clutch travel is a bit short... But if you get the peddle down properly the gearbox shifts nicely

The aircon is nice and cold.

For its age it has fair wear and tear on the body and wheels... Might be time to get the compressor and spray guns out again.

It needs a new steering wheel the outer section has dis-bonded from the steel inner.

I need to find some trim clips hopefully common to other Toyota's.

  4. It has the factory wheels and new tyres.

I use to fix cars (and aircraft) for a living so maintenance wont be that costly. My 2 boys will learning how to service cars. My kids are not learners the youngest has been driving for 2 years. All have done defensive driving courses and we will be heading to Willow bank for some track days.

The car arrives on the 25th...

  5. I was looking for a cheap car for the kids to drive because I am getting sick of them backing my car into stuff.

I decided to buy an MR2 SW20... What an adventure that was. Just about every car I looked at had been pimped to death.

    Or....

They were too expensive for me to buy for my kids to drive into the ground. Based on what I had seen in Brisbane I ended up buying one from a dealer in SA for $5700. Its a gamble buying a car unseen but I saw it as less of a gamble than buying some of the pimped sh*t boxes for sale in Brisbane.

It arrives next week so I will know then if I have stuffed up.

Standby for more words on my gamble.

  6. It would seem that except for Azza the systems weren't fitted by CES...

I had a CES on my Sportivo and it was great the mid range improvement was the best part of the system. I am 100% sure of the improvement because Azza got my CES system and I got his factory system and the mid range power was down as soon as the factory system went on.

You cant blame a product for problems if it is badly fitted.

    thats a massive generalisation.

Fitting an exhaust is not a hard thing to do. thats not the problem. the problem is that the exhaust is too big for the space that toyota made for the exhaust. it was designed for the standard exhaust, not a CES exhaust.

I can honestly say that i think the exhaust is awesome, but i cant say its perfect. everything has its faults.

Its not a generalisation its based on the evidence in the thread. The guys having problems are not in Queensland. I will stand corrected if they drove up here and had it fitted. But it looks to be mainly fitting issues these guys have had. Azza had an internal failure which seems to be different to the other problems.

When the system was on my car I didnt see any space issues.

The only issue I had with my CES system was the family didnt like the noise level. I loved it around town but on a highway trip it was a bit noisy for extended traveling.

My XR6 Turbo wont be getting a CES system not because I dont like the quality but because the thing is fast enough as it is.

  8. Hi Guys,

I've got a question for the Sportivo owners, I've got a '03 model which I bought late last year (I'm Lovin' it!). But I want to know how far you regularly push the RPMS?

I've read reviews saying they aren't designed to kick until 6000 and others swear it's 7. Mine starts to kick at 5500 and just keeps going till about 7 and to be honest I'm not really game to take it past that- at least not regularly- I feel like it's screaming.

What do you guys get to regularly? I mean, like this scenario: It's a Tuesday morning, your on your way to work, your first up at the lights and there's a grey haired Ford 1993 Feistiva driver next to you, what rpms do you hit (keeping in mind that though you know you're going to beat the festiva, you also want to show off, just a little bit....)

    Thanks,

    Jen

Why would you bother racing and Feistiva... Thats just lame...

Other than that give it heaps the rev limiter will protect it from over reving.

  9. I solved my shifting problem...

I got a 6 Speed Auto with a 4.0L Turbo attached... It shifts like you wouldnt believe :P

But what about your subsequent fuel economy problem?

That falls into the I dont care bracket... I can afford the fuel...

Best I have seen form the instant consumption is 90lt/100 :yahoo: and it was a clean shift 1st - 2nd at the time... :whistling:

I loved my Sportivo but this is just sooo much more fun.

  10. What made you go for a ute over the sedan?

I already have an AWD Territory Ghia so didnt need a sedan... The Ute will also be our camping support unit for all the crap we cant fit in the Camper and the Territory...

And the most basic reason I wanted a Ute... and a sedan to the same spec would have been another $5k

  11. So in 4 years time i'll give you a call for that car. I don't earn enough to have that kind of tax write off...

Keep an eye out on Carsales in 4 years for an Unmodified Seduce XR6 Turbo Ute with a Luxury Pack option.

It will have low k's for its age and it will be in fastastic condition...

try driving a cl600, 5.5 litre V12 Bi-Turbo - 368 kw 800 nm torque then u can talk about ****ting your pants. I got in - (family friends car) and put foot flat ............... sh*tttttttttttt this thing fliess, like 4.8 secs to 100 in a car that weighs like 2 T, incredible

Soon hopefully ill be privileged to drive his new baby - CL 65 AMG 6litre V12 450kW and 1000 nm torque this will be an experience of a lifetime

    Sounds like a nice car...

But when they come up againts an F6 or an XR6T (or even a Territory Turbo) with few mods they had better be prepared to feel a bit silly as they watch the back of the Ford vanish in the distance... :yahoo:

  12. I"ll just wait until i can pick one of these up for loose change, what with the magnificant rate of depreciation they have... :P

    Depreciation is a Tax deduction...

So I will have a new car that I can depreciate over 4 years of ownership...

So you can wait while I enjoy my new car and collect the Tax benifit over the life of the car.

Then you can buy it second hand while I go and buy another new car and depreciate it over 4 years.

  13. He basically traded his in. He had an FPV GT ute prior to this and just thought, 'meh, ok i'll get this'.

So the new XR6T's have 270kw also? They were 240kw w. 400nm or something similar before weren't they? (I'm about to go to lunch so i'm too lazy to look it up sorry haha)

Irregarless they're bloody quick. It's about to be 310kw w. 600nm with just a chip upgrade. Cherry metallic sounds very nice. More unique than some of the other colours.

The BFII XR6 Turbos have 245kw

Ford is just trying save dollars with this. It makes sense to produce the one engine and apply a different tune via the computer.

The eGas 4.0l Ford engine shares the same bottom end as well.

  14. How weird. On paper it said that Blairs was lighter? Similar to the 'paint debacle' with Toyota I guess (super red II...no wait...lucifer...or is it...hang on WTF?) lol.

    XR6 Turbo Ute 1785kg

XR6 Turbo Sed 1600kg (This seems very light to me)

    FPV F6 Ute 1827kg

    FPV F6 Sed 1805kg

I got these from carsales specs but they arent perfect the Ford site I couldn't find the mass figures.

My XR6 Turbo Ute will arrive next month its an 07 Build Auto with a Luxury Pack in a colour called Seduce which is a metalic cherry red. :yahoo:

I looked at the FPV Tornado but I just didnt see the value in an extra $10k...

  15. The Utes are weigh more than the sedans... Not sure why

The XR6T and the F6 Utes arent speed limited to 180klm. Who would buy a performance car limited to 180...

And an interesting Fact the XR6 Turbo has the same engine and gearbox as the FPV F6 since the BFII upgrade. The F6 has different engine and gearbox calibration and a different intake.
