  1. Same here, it happened to my wife when we picked the car up new on the drive home. I don't think she reved it over 3500rpm yet on 2 occasions it did not want to go into 2nd.

I drive 50km each way to work & home again and rarely ever touch lift on the journey and it will refuse to go into 2nd and 3rd at least 1/2 a dozen times a week.

I would like to know how Toyota can explain at 3000rpm slowly changing to 3rd with the clutch pressed to the floor I can get a couple times a week grinding. I hardly ever push my car and most of what I have done to it is to improve the driveability down low so as to not have to rev the guts out of it.

I have my new TRD clutch in my hands as of today so on Friday after it is in we will have an answer as to wether a better clutch helps.

  2. Here are some images of our meet and drive down some fast winding roads. A lot of fun especially watching the group at speed through the twisty stuff.

    Highlights:

A certain member falling behind and then using lift in 4th to catch and then pass us. Foolhardy but boy did it sound good.

    Lowlights:

Getting caught behind a slow car on some of the best twisty road. Those up front claim it was a white camry but we know it was the two 1zzg up front causing the bottleneck :P

    Questions:

Why did Lucio's passengers head keep disapearing and his car swerve <_< <_<

    Congratulations:

To Sport1vo for keeping up with everyone on his stock suspension :o

And what do you do after a full day of driving. Go back to E-gene's cafe in the evening and fit CAI to his stivo in the middle of the city street.

Images of the install (note check out the trams passing by)

    My Webpage

Hey E-gene how did it drive on the way home?

  3. so interms of handling, your $1750 will handle better than say, Tein adjustable's which are $2500 rrp?

i like the sound of your package, only prob is that it is not height adjustable

Yeah I was not interested in height adjustible, just wanted the car setup right and then left alone. Playing with my suspension to suit my moods did not really interest me.

The way my car is setup now is how I wish it too stay so the money I saved by not doing Height adjustible has bought me my TOMS lighghtweight flywheel.

Now all I have to do is save for that LSD. Anyone got $2500 to donate to my Red Devil project ;)

  4. hey Ilivfor6, can you give me more information about your Koni shocks?

    model No.

    Serial.

    where i can get it.

    how much $$$ USD

    thanks

i have mi TTE full suspension kit.(height adjustable)

it lower 50mm but it's come with a very hard damping setting.

    very uncomfortable for my country...

    thanks

    i'll appreciated your ifnormation Ilivfor6

Cannot give you a lot of info as it was left up to the workshop to do the best setup for my price point.

The Koni Shocks are custom made specifically for the Aussie Sportivo by koni to specifcations supplied by a workshop here who run corolla's in both national production car and rally classes. These guys have been the Toyota factory team for many, many years.

The springs were custom made by King Springs again to specifications supplied.

There is no Koni part number that I am aware of as Koni will only supply this part to them, and they were not too keen on supplying it to the shop doing my car. The owners of the shop who race with these guys had to ask & ask and call in favours until they agreed to share.

It took a while but was certainly worth it! Fitted the cost was $1750 Australian Dollars.

  5. If you are willing to spend around $1500 - $1700 fitted take a look at whiteline. You get Koni Sport Shock's with adjustible damper settings and matched springs. Drops the car about 35mm. On Koni shocks the sportivo handles like a completly different car and will keep up with most performance cars on the twisty bits. The ride still remains pretty good too.

Although my setup is not whiteline I am running custom Koni's and the handling is great. Sits 40mm lower and looks fast even standing still. No trouble staying with my brothers type-r integra through the corners (in terms of corner speed) although his LSD lets him punch out of the corners better. Just can't beat having LSD.

Out of all my mods the Koni suspension is my favourite so far!

  6. It is apparently Illegal in VIC to put this stuff over your number plate. Spoke to one of my fathers ex partners who is still in the police force and he said yes if they saw a car with it on you are in a lot of trouble compared to a speeding fine. Our parliament enacted new legislation not long after this & similiar products were launched to make it illegal. Do not know for other states.

And this stuff is not that hard to see either if you know what to look for. Apparently it flares when viewed from certain angles as well as when a cars headlights are directed on it.

In VIC if you put this on the car you are asking for some trouble

  7. If I was to boost my Stivo I would go the way of an Eaton Supercharger myself.

Why... the Eaton has an inbuilt bypass valve that when the car is not under much throttle/load (ie. coasting on the speed limit) the bulk of the incoming air bypasses the rotors/screws into the engine. Once you apply some throttle the bypass snaps closed and diverts all the air through the supercharger for instant power. It is so fast and seamless you cannot feel it and would swear it was under boost all the time.

The advantage is that the engine on normal driving only really has boost running through it 10-15% of the time making it very engine friendly.

Typically this setup runs approx 5-6PSI of boost right from idle through to redline, no drop off. Through optional gears and belts this can be taken up to about 9-10PSI

Have driven a couple Honda Civic's with this setup both stock internals and both having done more than 100,000km with the superchargers. They were awesome to drive with plenty of torque on tap actually feeling like they just had big V6 donk under the bonnet.

A lot of Type-R's in the states get this setup and run trouble free.

To have it done properly I would estimate about $8,000 to $10,000 including piggyback ECU & tuning. Eaton Superchargers are not cheap but you will find it hard to buy better. That's why there biggest client is Mercedes.

  8. The 2zzg can easily accomodate a turbocharger, most just think the RICE way of thinking... High pressure, high boost.

A small low pressure turbo running approx 5psi can make an enourmous difference to the car. Not only does this give a good dose of torque almost of idle but as it starts to run out of a little breath that is where Lift takes over. Don't get me wrong they still hammer a lot harder above 6000 they just act like there in Lift from 1000rpm

Some of the faster turbo Celica's in the states run setups like this and outperform higher PSI setups at the track. I have seen a couple of turbo Celica's running higher boost and because the compression has had to be dropped considerably they don't drive real well.

Low pressure, Low boost you only need a decent tune and the car will run reliable and very quick without needing to open up the engine!

  9. In the states the guys with Celica's say the gear change issue was only fixed with new clutch & flywheel combo's (probably just clutch but they seem to do the flywheel as well as the labour tends to cost more than the parts over there.

My new TRD clutch & TOMS flywheel go in on Thursday & Friday next week so by the end of next weekend will be able to give an answer as to wether it has fixed the problem or not (and in my car it is a problem)

    Will let you know!

  11. yeah looks good but i originally wanted black but get dirty to quick and scratches and **** show up easily.

silver is best for scratchesand dirt.

howeva when i saw lucifer red i knew it was the colour for me.

stands out, looks hot even stock. turns heads everytime.

im not normally a fan of red but i loved it as soon as i saw it.

Ahh.... A man with exceptional taste :D

  12. Man ive done some freaky stuff in my car, check the front passanger panel scratches from their legs at the next meet

    Yes I hear you have DONE some freaky stuff in your car. It went somethinh like this I'm told;

    Passenger: Baa... Baa

Lucio: Come here you little sexy white thing you.... zip....

Passenger: Baa... Baa... BAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!. (note: this is where the flailing legs & hooves did the damage to the passenger side trim)

Lucio: Oh yeah, Oh yeah... Oh, Oh, oooohhhhh here comes lift... Aaaahhhhhh!! :P :P :D :D

And as far as Peekay's being the most tuned, well mine is a nicer red :blink::blink:

  13. Hey there,

I have a stock 03 Sportivo - just had the recall bits done today. Does the TRD CAI make any real difference on the dyno are is it all fart no pooh (all sound no performance - if you get my drift) ?

There is SO much missinformation about what ACTUALLY makes power vs what just looks or sounds faster.

    Thanks !

To put it in your teminology:

It's a seam tearing f@rt quickly followed by a bowl shattering, a$$hole stretching mother of all dumps. :D

Have not dynoed before and after but my seat of the pants tests have me believing (with no doubt) it makes a huge difference to the driveability of the car. I can really feel it from 3000rpm onward.

Any of the guys here who have done the TRD CAI will say the same thing. If I was to get a new Stivo tomorrow I would order the CAI for it today. No questions.

  14. For that I would want brand new injectors. If it not a proper clean then it sounds like there going to flush them with sh!t like wyns.

I would have asked what they thought they needed to do and that way if it is a flush tell them to f@ck off!! If it was more and sounded reasonable then OK. But you should always ask why and then What it is they're goint to do.

Without full details I feel it is very hard to trust the service divisions.

  15. The only way to change lift point at present is with a TRD Replacement computer from japan or the Power FC ECU replacement from the states. Presently the Power FC only fits the celica as the wiring looms are different. The TRD ECU is not sold outside of japan.

Even if this device did work the large 2zzg tuning market in the states has showed there is no real benefit in changing the lift point. Many guys are running the Power FC in their celica's and are keeping the lift engagement at the same revs. Most are saying when they altered it they actually created power loss and larger torque holes.

What they are having a lot of success with is changing the VVT timings with the Power FC, but this is a constantly varying timing so I doubt a piggyback will be able to cope with this.

But hey thanks for the thought, it still worth looking into :)

  16. Nicely done, but i am just using the feel of the car and the limiter as my guide for shifting nowadays :P

Yeah I just cannot do that anymore :(

Before the mods you could feel the engine start to drop off after about 7500-7800rpm and could definately hear a change in sound as it would just start to labour a little.

Now though the little b@stard keeps pulling right up to the rev limiter with no percievable drop-off. If anything it starts to rev quicker over 7500rpm :D

  17. Just had an adjustible shift light installed yesterday. Sorry the pictures are not the best but they were taken at night as I had to leave the car at Peekays house, while taking his to have the same done while he is in Sydney. So there was no chance of taking pictures in daylight.

I have set it for coming on at 7900rpm just giving me enough time to change before the limiter. It's a great mod. All up for the shift Light and installation was less than $200.00. The guys installing it even wired a plug onto the shift light and a plug onto the back of the instrument cluster so as it cab easily be taken off. (so much better than hard wiring it!)
