  5. Hi guys (Lift issues on 2ZZ VVTLi) Need some help in Melbourne sourcing a mechanic who actually knows there way around a 2ZZ VVTLi engine (Corolla Sportivo)? I went to my Toyota Dealer (been going there for over a decade) and my engine was leaking oil. The following list is the work they carried out in order to fix the oil leaks. The oil leak was fixed (and it cost me an arm so far), but now my car will NOT hit lift. They have had two goes at it, but they do not know why it won’t hit lift blaming anyone but themselves. What could be the issue of why lift is not engaging and could you please recommend a reputable mechanic who has previously fixed these issues and has experience with the 2ZZ VVTLi engine in Melbourne. The work which was carried out: · Removed timing case and cylinder head assembly · Replaced all seals and gaskets · Replaced head gasket and retorqued cylinder head · Replaced VRS gasket set and rocker cover gasket · Replaced all fluids
  6. This is for the 2003/2004 pre-facelift Toyota Corolla Sportivo (6 speed manual). When the clutch is replaced, does the exhaust get moved and/or loosen in order to have the work done. I am aware that gearbox has to be removed and reassembled, refit the drive shaft and wheels, but what about elements of the exhaust? Reason why I am asking, is that I just had a new clutch installed on my stivo (by a highly regarded clutch and brakes shop in Melbourne), and for some reason when i drove off, which started as a small, and then ended up being a large squeaking noise coming from underneath the car. I suspect its the exhaust. Cheers

  9. I use EBC Green stuff for street (Since 2004). As Superdave suggested, maybe something better, EBC Red Stuff/GSL/Endless etc for track work. Be cafeful as the heat may warp your front discs, as it did to my car. I had them replaced in 2004 with ADR approved slotted DBA items, since then no issues.
  10. The original question was: Can anyone please recommend any reputable place in MELBOURNE where I can get the work costed/completed? Thanks to the posted sugestions, but it didnt answer my question. A while back i did the work suggested (tensioner/damper and adjusting etc), still rattles (not just startup or idle, but also when I am driving). Service agents recommened to replaced the timing chain, and while I was at it, the rest of the gear. The rattle was not present in the 1st couple of hundread thousand klms.
  11. Vehicle : 2004 Toyota Corolla Sportivo ZZE123R, pre-facelift model. Currently 240,000klm. Owned from new, no mods. Question: I require my Timing Chain assembly to be replaced. Can anyone please recommend any reputable place in MELBOURNE where I can get the work costed/completed? Other information: Yes, I have had it tensioned numerous times, but it still rattles. It seems that the timing chain has been stretched (possible end of its life), hence required replacement. Engine does NOT require rebuild, still good. Answer: Please post or PM me.
  12. Here we go again, CES, oh yeah, that’s right, you don’t need dyno figures, consumption figures or any kind of tests with actual results, it just feels good on the track, righto…… and you wonder why seasoned members are no longer on these forums? Sold the Corolla, er, wrong answer. P1ssed off, er, right answer. Nice to see moderators at work, this always comes up, doesn’t it from time to time. I do not expect this post to be modified or deleted, as past posts have by other members that have left for the same reason. Oh yeah, banning, where appropriate, I agree, banned by this post just proves my point.
  13. Ethenol & Petrol produces ~2.3kg of Co2 per litre. Diesel produces ~2.7kg of Co2 per litre. Electricity produces ~3.0kg of Co2 per litre (thanks to our inefficient power stations!). .....and LPG produces ~1.6kg of Co2 per litre. *Clear Winner on these fuels". Being a Melbourne Cabby myself, is seems a bit of a publicity gimic it seems. A Hybrid with solar panels on the roof with LPG to suppliment power is the way to go ! The cost of fuel should be factored in with the cost of maintenance and repairs, hence why Fords and Holdens on LPG are so popular. Prius and the Civic Hybrid (HCH2) are expensive and too small, also what I've found is that a tow pack is NOT available with ANY Hybrids . I've got a one year old Falcon XT on E-Gas (that is dedicated GAS) purchased from Auctions for $21k plis $2k to paint yallow and install all the taxi accesories. Now if they where to produce a Hybrid E-Gas car, I'll put my hands up for one!
  14. CES FTW yO LOL. If you want that kind of power there is 3 cars I know of here in Brissy with that kind of power figures. Only one has a PFC the others are CES catback, TRD/CES CAI, CES headers and well maintained with good quality lubricants. Its funny that all Sportivo's fitted with most CES items in Melbourne made LESS power. The best examples of this, is the CES CAT-Back, this was fitted to 3 seperate different Sportivo's, and all made equally less power of -2KW across the range (same dyno, same day and same conditions for each car (this does NOT mean that all cars where done on the same day, each individual car was done on the same day with and without the system)). Ah yes, and the final argument, its not about power (Dyno Results), its all about driveability. All owners where dissapointed with driveability and the unbearable drowning noise (and not to mention rattles) coming out the back while cruising, this also applies to the CES CAI. Hence why most Melbourne Toyota Owners are NOT on this forum anymore and DONT want to deal with it, as, if anyone mentioned anything bad about friggen CES, they automatically get banned. This is bulls&*!t. What happened to freedom of speach? Maybe the Sportivo's (that is fed up with all the crap and propaganda) produce more power in Brisbane, as its closer to the equator and has different climate conditions, who really knows? On another note, the CES Headers are the only items that DOES work, in Melbourne that is (and proven on Dyno and driveability). Ban me if you wish, but don't delete or alter this post. In my opinion, banning or aletering this post just Proves the Point, doesn't it?
  15. Camry hybrid needs government boost, says Toyota. Camry hybrid needs government boost, says Toyota Toby Hagon, drive.com.au, 26/10/07 Toyota's Japanese management is "seriously considering" an Australian-built petrol-electric Camry, but is seeking assistance from the Federal Government. TOBY HAGON reports. Toyota Camry An economical, petrol-electric hybrid version of the Toyota Camry is on the wish list of Toyota’s global executives, although the company has called for assistance from the Federal Government. Speaking at the 2007 Tokyo motor show, Toyota executives confirmed the company is considering adding a hybrid model to Toyota’s production line at Altona in Melbourne. But it would only be done if economic conditions were favourable. In line with earlier comments from senior Toyota Australia executives, a hybrid version of the Camry would respond to concerns about fossil fuel use and carbon dioxide output by delivering a car that uses some 30 per cent less fuel. “We are seriously thinking about the introduction of hybrid version, especially on the Camry,” says Toyota executive vice president, global planning operations, overseas, Tokuichi Uranishi. But he warned that the strong Australian dollar and potential future import tariff reductions could jeopardise the plans. “We have lots of alternatives, (we can) take (a hybrid car) from Japan … or Thailand,” he says. “We are doing business, therefore we have to seriously compare which is the most economical way. “[With] the very strong Aussie dollar, local production is getting very [difficult]. We are carefully looking at the movement of future arrangement of the import duty.” But Uranishi says the plan to build a hybrid car in Australia is being “seriously” studied and, provided the economics add up, could be in place by 2010. Others within Toyota are more conservative, suggesting a hybrid Camry will not arrive until at least the next-generation vehicle due after 2010. Toyota Australia's senior executive director of sales and marketing, David Buttner, told drive.com.au earlier this year: “We'd like to [build] a Camry hybrid. “We see real potential for such a vehicle, particularly with government and fleet buyers.” The Government is also understood to be discussing ways of encouraging car makers to build a hybrid vehicle locally. Uranishi made the comments while calling for a freeze on import tariffs at their current rate of 10 per cent. The Government has a plan to half the tariff to 5 per cent in an effort to improve the global competitiveness of Australia’s four car makers – Toyota, Holden, Ford and Mitsubishi. He also warned that the strength of the Australian dollar is not conducive to expansion plans. “We are suffering seriously from the currency exchange rate, with the export business,” says Uranishi. “The current [exchange] rate is very severe for Toyota.” Uranishi also says the exchange rate rules out any chance of building a third model at Altona, scotching rumours that Toyota may produce the Camry-based Kluger 'softroader' alongside the Camry and Aurion.
  16. Toyota Halts Sales of the V6 RAV4 Toyota Halts Sales of the V6 RAV4 30 Oct, 2007 - 194 Comments Toyota Australia has stopped sales of its newly released V6 RAV4. The company stated the RAV4’s V6 engine, which has already seen controversy after Toyota stopped sales of the TRD Aurion, was not performing as smoothly as expected. Toyota has been hard at work applying the 3.5-litre Toyota Aurion powerplant (2GR-FE) across its entire range. Starting life in the Aurion, then the Tarago, Kluger, and now a brief stint in the RAV4. Toyota has not given any specific reasons for the sale freeze, noting that it is not a recall, but more of a precaution. The company says the RAV4’s driveability may be compromised. Prior to the incident, Toyota executive vice-president Mitsuo Kino****a, told The Age newspaper that Toyota was under pressure due to growing demand. He also noted the use of in-car electronics and integrated circuit boards have been a weak point for the Japanese manufacturer. This is the third sales freeze for Toyota this year, following the Corolla’s steering rack issue and the TRD Aurion’s engine failure. As we mentioned earlier, Toyota is also having quality issues in the U.S. Is the king of reliability slipping in standards? YES!
  17. Toyota freeze sales of new V6 RAV4 Toyota freeze sales of new V6 RAV4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 30, 2007 By: steane Category: Toyota, Car News Toyota Australia have ordered their dealers to temporarily cease selling the new V6 RAV4 compact four-wheel-drive. Details of the fault are not currently known. Toyota have confirmed that while the fault is not a safety issue it does affect the driveability of the new model. This is the second sales freeze called by Toyota in as many months for vehicles powered by their 3.5-litre V6. The previous issue involved the new TRD Aurion and a dealer car that suffered an engine failure. The TRD Aurion features a super-charged version of the same 3.5-litre V6 that powers the RAV-4. The TRD Aurion is back on sale but we are non-the-wiser as to the issue that caused the engine failure. We’ll update this article when further details become available.
  18. RAV4 V6 sales suspended (October 2007) RAV4 V6 sales suspended (October 2007) Words - Ken Gratton A glitch in the engine management system is the suspect behind Toyota's decision to hold back sales of the V6-engined RAV4 Toyota has temporarily withdrawn the V6 RAV4 from sale. The vehicle has only been available for a couple of weeks (more here), but company technicians have uncovered rough running in a couple of 'demonstrators'. Mike Breen, Toyota's Manager - Public Relations, said "They found with a couple of company demonstrators that the engine performance wasn't as smooth as it should be -- under normal operating conditions. "Their initial thought is that it's something to do with the engine management control unit. "They decided to stop sales on the vehicles so we didn't get too many out there in the marketplace, because the more out there, the harder it is to control these things." Mr Breen was unable to say how many cars had been delivered to date, but the condition so far appears to be isolated to Toyota-owned vehicles. The engine is the same unit as fitted to Toyota's Kluger and Aurion -- and those vehicles are unaffected by the condition in the RAV4, which is why the company believes the problem is endemic to the RAV's engine management ECU. At this stage, Toyota is unable to say when sales of the RAV4 V6 will resume.
  19. Toyota Australia reels from second engine blow Toyota Australia reels from second engine blow Ian Porter , drive.com.au, 29/10/07 Local car maker Toyota has suspended sales of another model because of an engine problem, with the new V6-powered RAV4 closely following the Aurion TRD to the medi-lab. IAN PORTER and RICHARD BLACKBURN report. Sales of new RAV4 V6 have been halted while Toyota investigates a problem relating to the 3.5-litre engine. Toyota has again been hit by an embarassing fault in a new model, with all Australian dealers being ordered to stop selling the new V6-powered RAV4 compact 4WD. The RAV4 V6 launched only a fortnight ago to join the four-cylinder model launched in early 2006. A problem relating to the engine follows shortly after Toyota Australia's Aurion TRD resumed sales in October after an investigation into an engine failure. Toyota Australia spokesperson Mike Breen says the RAV4's 3.5-litre V6, which is shared with the Aurion, Kluger, and Tarago, is not operating "as smoothly as would be expected", and there appears to be an issue with the engine's electronic managment control system. The problem was detected in a couple of company demonstration models and the decision was made to stop customer deliveries as a "precautionary measure". "There has been no customer feedback," says Breen. Breen says the problem does not constitute a recall. "It is not safety related so it isn't a product recall." The latest problem has come only days after one of the Japanese group's directors admitted the company's response to vehicle quality problems "was not perfect". Toyota, which has grown to be the world's largest carmaker mainly on the strength of product reliability, issued the freeze order on the RAV4 V6 following concerns about the car's drivability. Details of the exact fault were not available last night, but a Toyota spokesman said it was not a safety-related issue. It is the latest in a string of quality-related problems to hit the Japanese giant this year, both in Australia and overseas, and reflects the problems that come with growing rapidly year after year. Toyota directors were so concerned about deterioration in quality levels two years ago they formed the Customer First committee to address the problem, executive vice-president Mitsuo Kino****a, told The Age last week in Tokyo. "Quality is our first priority. Unfortunately, two years ago, vehicle [problems] increased so much at that time we decided to establish the CF committee," said Kino****a. "We have been doing that for two years and, as a result, the quality is getting better and the recall level is comparatively decreasing." Apart from the pressures of having to rapidly increase production, Mr Kino****a said a major source of problems was the increasing use of electronics and, in particular, integrated circuit boards, in cars. Toyota sales have been growing by between 500,000 and 800,000 vehicles a year, which means the company has had to build at least two factories a year to keep pace. "Finding skilled people is one of the biggest challenges for us," Mr Kino****a said. "We now employ 300,000 people around the world. That has doubled in the last 10 years." Mr Kino****a said Toyota had been forced to create its own "university", the Toyota Institute, where managers from around the world are taught "The Toyota Way" of building cars. In addition, the group has established its Global Production Centre, where production group leaders learn how to teach their team members. "We took many countermeasures to produce more skilled workers. Of course, it is not perfect..." The freeze on RAV4 V6 sales comes only a month after Toyota Australia was forced to halt sales of its locally developed supercharged V6 Aurion TRD sedan after the engine in one of the early models failed. That was traced to some over-enthusiastic driving by a dealer. Earlier in the year, Toyota was forced to halt sales of the newly released Corolla range after it was found an incorrectly fitted stay allowed the steering columns to slump to their lowest position. Toyota's usually rock-solid reputation for reliablity has also had a set-back in the United States after an influential consumer magazine said the company's cars could no longer be automatically recommended.

    I would'nt..... yet. RAV4 V6 ISSUES - TRD AURION ALL OVER AGAIN!
  21. I would be leaning towards driver abuse....I would imagine that TRD/Toyota/Eaton would have done fair amount of R&D and to have 2 fail only within few weeks of their release..... mmmmmmmmm yeah righto TRD Stop Sales of Aurion due to faulty Engines.
