  1. thanks, wonderful help and support from you all. i have checked out the links above for things to do under warranty and looking into the fuel pipe issue. but overall, feel happy with the purchase, albeit...i will learn to love white! PS, I assume the sticking pedal & toyota recall does not affect aurions...but not sure.
  2. The garage were offering tinting for 500 AUD. Decided not to do it since they offered one type of tint only. Would prefer to take the car to a specialist. Questions I need to research 1. do the metallic tints cause problems for sat navs 2. where to get it done in perth (tint a car or other places) 3. what darkness to get 4. hoping to get it done for 400AUD, what are typical prices. I assume tinting is worth it, a lot of cars seem to have it.
  3. thanks. what problems? there wasn't a link above. I'll do my best, since it is 2008 it at least has 1 year left.
  4. Hi, Bought one! ATX, white, 30K on the clock, ex-hertz rental. 23K in Perth from a dealer. I am sure I could got less but frankly..when I looked the week before they had 20..they were selling really fast. Had a few left. I am guessing trade in would immediately be around 19K. I was incredibly close to buying a kluger for 38K, FWD, KX-R...but settled on the aurion since it did the job and I felt 38K for a 2008 FWD kluger was asking too much. first car in oz, i didn't want to go that far up the cost chain until i see how things work here. still the kluger could be an upgrade. Anyway, I am now in the aurion club. Never had a white car before, feels quite...unusual. I am from the UK of course.
  5. urgh, that car is in kalgoorie, so i am guessing hence why it is cheap.
  6. well guys we are arriving in perth end of this week and on friday/saturday i am going to buy a kluger. prefer 4WD and 7 seats if I can get one. How about this http://www.discountusedcars.com.au/used-ca...er/7729421.aspx GSU45-R $36,999* Transmission: Semi-Automatic Reg Exp: Year: 2008 Reg No: KBC17527 Engine Size: 3456 Body: Wagon Km's: 36,917 Fuel Type: Unleaded Location: Western Australia Colour: Sandstone Internal Colour: I am thinking I can get this price down to 35K. Any ideas? I was really expecting the dealer prices to be higher than they are...as per the UK. In the UK the dealers have really higher prices that private sales or large car supermarkets.
  7. kesawi, You answered all my questions pretty much. I'll go for the 4WD. Otherwise I'll just worry about going anywhere off tarmac, plus it handles better. I'll also for for the 7 seats. Only issue now is trying to get one second hand. My worry is someone will have dumped a car due to some build issues, so we'll need to be careful. So, the size issue is still there. But you don't get many safe small cars..since they are small. There is a pretty small chance of ever being in a serious accident and I am a good driver, no accidents in 20 years! but that does not stop some idiot hitting you. If there was no accident risk I would get a medium car with a boot. But being older with kids and insanely interested in their wellfare, i can't but choose to get something big. scott.
  8. Kesawi, I am new to the kluger and am more or less about to buy, see this topic. Could do with advice. http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...showtopic=25436
  9. LOL In my opinion Hyundai is streets ahead of toyota now. Two problems with the Santa Fe, firstly is got an "A" only for side strength, and the picture shows it creases badly. http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=812 Secondly, and I maybe wrong on the latest details, but why are there US govt level investigations into the airbags not deploying in these cars?
  10. I did see this and think two things. Probably both incorrect since i am jumping to conclusions. 1. the chinese hate toyota or want to show them as inept. 2. the car is far too heavy for dry sandy soil and whatever size wheels there isnt the surface area to pull up. I was surprised that traction control didnt sort the problem out and am wondering if they turned traction control off so that it failed the test. you never know.
  11. Well I knew I wanted an Toyota! since i am an avensis owner from the UK, but it took a while to decide more or less that the kluger was the one for my family. 2 small kids. Reasons 1. Safety! ok, probably being frankly too cautious but a 1900 weighted car plus a solid frame and all the airbags that are vital (curtains are seriously important) and also a good rating by the IIHS (www.iihs.org) for side impact has me decided. So many people ignore side impact and IIHS do the best test and it can be quite amazing that large solid looking cars have issues with side impacts. Check out the volvo xc90 for example. You can see it crumples on side impact. 2. Reliability. I see only one issue with the klugers, the recall for the leaking fuel pipe. 3. Big boot space. The Tiguan for example fits a pram and nothing much else. 4. It is fairly common! so I can bargain for a price on a second hand one. Plenty around. So, I am looking at buying a second hand 2007+ kluger, new model. 1. Do I get the 4WD. I feel inclined to get it since I am living in Perth soon (not arrived) and do not know how frequently a 4WD will come in handy. wanting to do weekends away, will it be useful? Having a FWD and getting stuck on some dirt track somewhere is rather scary. Will I need a 4WD around Perth? 2. Do I go for the 7 seats. I only need 4 currently but it seems tempting for when visitors arrive to get extra seats. Imagine the parents were over, it would be handy than hiring a second car. 3. Price, I am going to have to haggle at some dealership. Do I trust the prices in the redbook.com.au and stick to those? Is the upper limit prices applicable to perth (basically everything in perth seems more expensive). I was going to try the line "i want that car but all i have to spend is 35K" type argument. If I get a dealer that says ok, otherwise walk away to the next one. 4. The second hand klugers look like they have done some serious mileage in 2 years, generally 40K. I could buy a new one but frankly, if I could get a redbook.com.au price why shouldn't I do that. 5. Does the redbook price include taxes (of which I have no clue, i expect stamp duty...but not a lot else) 6. Is the kluger in some more expensive tax banding generally? My only reservation on the kluger is the size and fuel economy, but I fail to see a safe heavy car that won't have those issues. I hear the reversing camera is good which helps. But width wise, it is big! Note: I would have considered the Santa Fe...very impressed with it, but the car they submitted for the crash test the airbags did NOT deploy and there are issues therein apparently. Plus the side impact is doubtful. But anyway, whatever you feel about the santa fe there is plenty of issues with the airbags. None starter. Other than the kluger, I looked at the CRV. Very good, much smaller, but overall very safe. Issues however with build quality on the forums, and most most annoyingly...the base models don't come with curtain airbags (unless you buy 2010 version new). So to buy it new, i may as well get a kluger..since lets face it the CRV is underpowered. Life is never simple.
  12. Thanks to who replied. I am not a "bogan" so aurion fits the bill better than a commodore. About the leg room on the ford, i was reading a weblog review from some australian reviewer and he mentioned the issue, hence I made the conclusion it would probably be an issue. But of course I wont know until I sit in one. The ford seems rather too large anyway for general use. Its 20cm longer and 10cm wider than the aurion. Two questions, 1. I believe the aurion has child restraint catches, but are they "isofix" compatible. Basically I was intending to take out care seats over and use them. 2. I dearly want to attach some bikes to the back of the car for weekends, hence my interested in the CRV. Has anyone tried to get bikes on the back of an avensis? was it hard? Frankly...i am a novice here. I am in Perth and intending to basically buy one very quickly. It seems there are plenty available. If anyone has any garages they can recommend let me know. In the UK there are 2 types of garage 1. cheap cheap cheap mega store (dont even test drive sometimes) and no haggle on price. 2. the manufacturer garages, expensive...and you can haggle. I prefer the #1 above since cost is important. In the UK also we have the RAC do a "car check", sometimes useful. Any equivalent in Perth? The fact is I might be arriving after the wife in Perth and so not able to do a car inspection myself, I may need to buy without seeing.
  13. Hello, My family are arriving in Aus in a few months! yippie, from the UK. Should be fun, and we want to buy a car obviously. We'll be giving up our trusty 2005 avensis and looking for something similar. Plenty of boot space...and good/top/best safety ratings etc. There seems to be a very small market for the avensis in australia, plus it looks like the avensis MPV rather than the saloon which is what we have currently. I am a big chap..6'2, and like lots of leg room, hence one of the reasons we got the avensis in the first place. All the cars we buy are automatic..and so looking for a decent gearbox also. In the UK the verso has a bad reputation for automatic boxes. In terms of safety what counts for me is weight of the car, airbags and of course strength and construction. Possibly the best car would be the ford falcon but I hear the legroom is not so good, plus its a ford. Every ford I ever had has literally broken down. Any thoughts - Aurion? I have never sat in one, plenty of leg room? is the aircon ok since we'll be needing it, seems to retail used for around 23K. - Avensis MPV? I know little about it. Is it safe? - Honda CRV new shape. Its more expensive, but would fit the bill. I have always wondered if being higher up makes it safer. Never had a Honda before. If I got an Aurion, maybe I can have some $$ left over for a small run about like a Yaris also. How cheaply could I pick up a reliable small car for train station runs? thanks guys.
