  1. Hi, Is there any Toyota dealers or other places in Australia that sell engine block heaters for the Prius? Or anywhere than can install it if i supply it? (if i bought it from the internet). I've tried Castle Hill Toyota & they have no idea about the part, yet in the US and Japan apparently Toyota sells them as an OEM accessory? Although it doesnt get THAT cold in Aus that one would be necessary, it improves winter fuel economy noticeably as it pre-warms the Hybrid transaxle allowing the engine shut off from its warmup cycle earlier, thus allowing hypermiling. Thanks :)
  2. Loving the colour :) it's a great car for your P's! What economy is it averaging?
  3. 1. YES! It's a great car! I think to like the prius you need to have an open mind, it's NOT a sporty car, although It's a comfortable, easy to drive car for commuting, and it serves it's purpose superbly. It's got great rear legroom, huge amounts of storage all through the cabin and it's reaaaaly smooth 2. Again, yes, it's got two glove boxes, a huuuuuge centre console storage area, and various more storage compartments around th cabin. It has great rear legroom and a decent boot. 3. I usually pay $140 4. Yep, it's got an 8 year warranty 5. About $4000, but that should come down as they become cheaper to produce, although toyotas only replaced 2 batteries on Australian Prius' (both were taxies with around 400,000kms, and were precautionry measures, the battery didn't totally fail) 6. I haven't dine anything other than was the car and service it 7. Yes, but I don't think over 17", and make sure they aren't to heavy as it may ruin the Hybrid Transaxle, although any wheels other than the standard ones will make it use more fuel 8. Fine, like any other car it's size 9. I have a 11/08 model, of the Gen2 generation, the 2007-2009 models are probably the best 10. There's really not much, other than the usual stuff associated with buying a car nb: don't be thrown off by dealer cars having unusually high fuel economy, dealer cars are frequently moved around the lot of taken on a test drive. When a prius starts from cold, it turns on the petrol motor to intensively warm itself up, doing this frequently causes high a economy figure, but under regular use it will produce 4.4-4.8l/100km with ease.
  4. damn you have a sick Aurion :) those wheels look great!
  5. Danja might want to check with your dad to confirm that so that your dad isn't convinced to press charges against you for removing "Toyota" from the car. -_-  hahahah!
  6. From past experience, red does seem to fade a bit more than other colours, but it's usually that non-metallic looking red that tends to fade more for some reason. Just to let you know, factory paint protection doesn't really protect your paint much. It will have no effect on slowing down the natural fading that will occur with your paint. Don't be overly concerned though. It's not like it's going to fade badly. Just take good care of your paint with proper maintenance as listed in the forums here and you shouldn't even notice your paint fading. It may get slightly lighter over time, but you shouldn't notice it. The area that you debadged will not turn out any different to the rest of your car. Thanks heaps! i thought about waxing the area but i cant even remember where they are :s yet another question..... the base model prius speakers are pretty basic (ie: crap), am i able to replace the speakers inside the stock enclosure on the doors without butchering it (maintaining a 100% stock look)?
  7. Just a quick question.. Red cars fade with time right? well the car has Toyota Paint protection, but after de-badging the car (last week) the areas of paint under the badges obviously doesn't have the protection. Does this mean they will fade? how can i remedy this? Thanks :)
  8. Just an update on the car, ive done 2,000kms since i got it. I'm averaging 4.5l/100km (ALMOST at the claimed 4.4l/100km) from basically coasting and gliding everywhere. YES, i have de-badged it WITH my dads permission, it improved the looks of the cars greatly. The aerial has also been replaced with a much smaller bee-sting aerial with no effect to radio reception. On the list is a set of Audi Style LED DRLs to be mounted on the lower bumper, (with my dads 100% approval). ill get some decent pics soon :)
  9. hi all, i plan on installing a strip of LED DRLS on my '08 Prius (corny i know, but i love them) but are the legal? i want them basically to turn on when the car powers up, and turn off when the car is off. Is it legal to have them on AND the headlights at the same time? They will be mounted underneath the stock foglights in the lower grill. thanks
  10. Thanks guys :) ive driven the Fiat a few times, being a manual its pretty hard, but it feels MUCH more powerful than the Prius! just a general question, my dad doesn't want me to remove the badges. So im going to wait until her forgets about the idea, then do it.. But the car has paint protection, does this affect the removal in any way? i don't want the red to fade where the badge used to be.
  11. The 'rents recently decided to sell their '03 Camry Altise in anticipation of my getting my L's. A Prius is hardly the car i was wanting them to get. Although after living with it for a month, i LOVE it! i have 22 hours on my L's in my first month :). My dad gets a work car, and my mum has her car for work, leaving my the Prius for my usage once i'm on my P's. A Prius is the last car i ever expected to like, its looks have even started to grow on me. Further removing myself from the young driver stereotype, i drive like an old lady, in order to keep consumption down (4.7 ltr/100km average). Its an 11/08 ex-Toyota company car with 28,00kms base model in Wildfire. So far it has tints, but i plan on a de-badge and a much smaller aerial and possibly 17" wheels from the '10 Prius. The Prius The Camry ;) (eewwww!) & the mothers car
