  1. i fully agree with this shirt.. you should definately know your roots :P
  2. 2 questions... 1. anyone got one of these? 2. anyone know anywhere else that provides such products?
  3. i thought an abreviated version of 'my island home' by christina anu would be more appropriate
  4. mbruce all I meant was I thought it was pretty cool that my full blooded aussie students saw nothing racially intended about the statement other than being able to celebrate Australian ideals. But according to the Filipino government, regardless if the deed was done with respect or not, you would be breaking the law because the flag and anthem are national symbols that shouldnt be messed with. (which sucks coz i like wearing those shirts) Although I am an art teacher and believe in freedom of expression.. it seems somewhat of a double standard to say its ok to use the southern cross for some things and not for others. Anyways.. I guess things like the flag have different meanings to everyone and you cant make everyone happy all the time.
  5. Thats funny how non white australians consider the southern cross or even the flag as somewhat offensive. I asked a group of students in one of my art classes the same queston (all were white/aussie/aboriginal decent) and they saw nothing racist about the term "aussie pride" or the southern cross.
  6. In case you havent already figured out, although I was born in Sydney, consider myself an Australian, I have just about as much love for the country my parents and my wife were born : the Philippines. Recently in the Phil'z there has been some controversy over singers singing their own versions of the national anthem (much like many American artists do when they sing the anthem) as well as the use of "elements" of the Filipino flag as a fashion accessory. For those unfamiliar with the Filipino flag, here it is: And here are a few examples of the flag/the stars being used as a fashion statement: Now ive just read an article CLICK HERE FOR THE ARTICLE that states that the Filipino government has made it clear that it is not only "offensive" or "disrespectful" to appropriate the sun/stars from the flag or to sing a more upbeat/soulful version of the anthem, it is now very illegal to do so! "Penalties imposed against violators include a fine ranging from P50,000 to P100,000 and imprisonment of up to two years." (P100000 = almost $2600AU atm) This sucks for me since my brother recently came back from Philippines and brought me back a couple of shirts bareing the filipino sun and stars, which I initially thought was pretty cool since its kinda like the Filo equivilent of the Southern Cross... Ive been wearing them with pride.. no disrepect to anyone or anything in particular. Now... over the past few years I have seen hundreds of cars, various bits of clothing and tattoos of the Southern Cross, which looks exactly the same as the stars which appear in our Australian flag. I have also seen and heard people singing their own stylised versions of the Australian national anthem. My question to you all is this. Since it is considered that the Aussie flag and the anthem are "national treasures", is it or should it be considered an offence to use the southern cross as a fashion statement or a symbol of "aussie pride"? I fully understand the patriotism behind the idea, but I cant help associating the words "aussie pride" with racial discrimination against those who dont appear typically australian. So far all that is clear to me is this: Burning/ damaging the flag is illegal and punishable by law. But what about all the other people who use the southern cross as some sort of statement? And what about the singers whove sung their own versions of the anthem? Is that or is that not offense (punishable by law)? Since the Philippines has already made a decision on the issue, Ive been wondering what was Australia's official stance on this stuff. Jase.
  7. out of curiosity.. are there any pics in TOCAU of anyones prefacelift corolla with the retrofitted projectors? would be interested to see what the headlight actually would look like after the modification.

Im a devoted nsw supporter...They should have given the benefit of the doubt on that try. Having said that, I still think the better team won last night.

  10. hold up wait a minute.. rear sedan doors... i know they are different to rear hatch doors, so im ASSuming the window width is gonna be different. any hatch numbers?
  11. yea that i forgot to ask... haha i was just asking out of curiosity in the first place im not rushing... but that info would be great for future reference. id probebly go straight to toyota parts for this. im optimistic you can buy them as individual parts, since they would most likely ware out eventually. they work more or less as a seal right? removes excess water from the window when its moved down..
  12. gday gav, tried to PM you back but for some reason the website wont allow it? thanks for the offer but someone local has already offered. thanks anyway.. jase
  13. anyone know how much these cost from toyota? what would be a decent replacement? - no im not talking about white/blue light bulbs.. i just want to replace the stock ones with a new similar/same stock bulb. better yet if youve changed/upgraded your headlights and still have your stock bulbs laying around and live in sydney.. id be very interested in buying?! jase
  14. them boomerang looking boot ornaments wouldnt look out of place lol! damn thats a nice ride!
  15. buy an ultima ay?? kinda stupid to suggest i purchase a whole new car. might make more sense to just ask toyota parts for ultima strips. thanks for the tip. thanks Snesi_SU for the pic. i used to want the chrome door handles a couple years back.. not so sure bout it now... just a bit too much chrome for my liking. but im still kinda keen on that rear chrome bit covering the hatch door handle.
  16. thats news to me.. when did they start importing JDM runx's into australia? thought that wasnt going to happen since sportivos are already sold domestically..
  17. youve done well mate! holy moly... what car you going to get next??
  18. since my car is silver to begin with, im only after a little bit more chrome accents.. nothing too obvious. ive seen other cars with chrome entirely surrounding the side windows and its a bit much...
  19. ive seen them on other cars.. hard to explain what im looking for but ive illustrated where i want the chrome to be, highlighted area in red. anyone know if its been done on our 'zz corollas before? any help is appreciated. jase
  20. my former nicks 1) JJCRU23R... JJ = my initials, CRU23R = the NSW numberplate I used to own when i drove my 1985 landcruiser bundera. The rego expired and the car was left unregistered a month too long and after i bought my corolla and the RTA reclaimed the registration plates.. I couldnt get them back.. so someone else has their hands on my plates :( 2)J_J.. obviously its my initials again 3)mannyMANNYmanny = im a bit of a boxing nut... if you watch a manny pacquiao fight all you hear from the crowd is manny!MANNY!manny! Considered by many to be the best pound for pound king of boxing right now. Recently beat Ricky Hatton in 2 rounds, last december he put oscar de la hoya into retirement. next possibly bouts could be against cotto, floyd mayweather jr or marquez.
  21. So does that mean my mate needs 2 3rd party insurances???? That doesn't make sense.
  22. ive read a couple used car buyers guides and they all say you should buy insurance before you drive away with the car... but usually the rego is due before youve had the car for 12 months.. so what do you do? my mate has 10 months more on his current greenslip that hes already paid for.. that money cant be wasted and he has to buy another 12 months at the time of his rego?
  23. from what ive read on the motor accidents authority website CLICK HERE they are one and the same thing. I know what you mean... basically you need a fresh greenslip and pinkslip at the time you pay for your rego at the RTA. but he bought this car a couple months back and its kinda stupid if he drives around in his newly bought car without some sort of insurance under his name. as for the price of the insurance, i think the price depends on which area you garage your car. i cant hardly remember back when i bought my car 2nd hand.. i remember thinking bout this issue but cant remember what i did.
