  1. Just some notes for people trying to fit aftermarket replacement parts Distributor cap, BOSCH GD806 listed for the 22R does not have lugs for the lead clips, presumably the clips are found on some versions of the 22R motor but not all? and if you try to use them with factory leads they will fall out. I assume you have to buy the Bosch leads to fit that particular cap. There is an alternative cap listed specifically for the RN85 which is GD914, I assume this one has the clips, but I don't know for sure. The Bosch rotor (GD802)went straight on no probs. I'll post up when I know for sure what cap is correct. Any others like this you've found out there might help someone out.
  2. is it gone for good once you press the clutch? Do you press it in all the way?
  3. I reckon you'll have to find some higher power sealed beams to fit the same hole on the bodywork. Might pay to see what the wattage of the standard setup is (ie 55/60) and see what you can turn up at maybe 60/75 or similar. if you can find some shells with replaceable bulbs which will fit your bodywork, you'll have more options. I don't know enough about HIDs to give you advice but I think they might be a bulb change thing, I'm probably wrong, I've never looked into them. Hope that helps.
  4. Are they sealed beam lights or something? Can't you just change the bulb?
  5. Gday mate you may be able to use some boat cleats if you can find some recessed ones at maybe BCF or similar. A long shot but a possibility.
  6. OK so lets figure this out. compression spot on. timing spot on. what does that leave us?? I supposed injection of engine oil into the combustion stream via valve stem seals . . . ba-bow! wrong! oil rings? head gasket? cracked head? How do we eliminate possibilities? (ie: will a compression test eliminate a blown gasket or crack in the head? . . . especially if they aren't too severe) PS I'm not trying to be smart, just to help us both figure where the problem could be. For instance, if the head gasket is leaking from a gallery to the combustion chamber. I hope we can find it, I think you are going to have to commit surgery on it to know for sure.
  7. Mate, I don't know if it will help or not but can a floor be put into the rack to stop it forcing air down onto your roof? I don't suppose you have a picture of it?
  8. Sorry mate, I don't have one but Toyota normally prints the fuse layout in the lid of the fuse box, I assume this is missing?
  9. Gday Mate I'm given to understand that later model diesels run a much higher fuel pressure than earlier ones and thats why they are expensive as the tolerances are a whole lot tighter. http://www.dynamicdiesel.com.au/ Have a look at this or contact them to find some idea of pricing. Hope thats a help to you.
  10. Not me, although I think you might want look at your valves depending how many Ks on the motor. Diesel oil immediately goes black due to the compression. Your injector pump is probably the same as mine and the manual states that timing can cause smoking, but if you've adjusted it, then you might look at stem seals which unfortunately means pulling off the head, and while you're at it you should pull the valves, clean and lap them back in. I hope thats helpful, I can't think of anything else that would do it at the moment.
  11. Model specific service interval I can't help you with, however you may get a gregory's/Haynes manual from supercheap or similar. Failing that you can order the genuine service manual from toyota.
  12. Difficult to say without a listen mate. possible that the rockers are doing it, I'm not sure what the rocker configuration is for your model. At 220, I'd make sure the timing belt, water pump is renewed etc. Sorry I can't be of more help. PS 3000 seems ok in top.
  13. There is a diode array on the back of your alternator that converts from 3 phase to DC. These can be available as a kind of plug in , but I'm not sure if this is the case for your model. Mine did this also and I just got a new(other) alternator. I suggest you get the alternator tested and they'll give you a price for reco, Brace your wallet cause they don't miss you.

Ordered one of these replacement castings from a large local ultracheap outlet looks like theres a bit of a problem with it. They were kind enough to not get back to me with any information as to whether they'd fixed it, so here it is.
  15. Hi just put this up in case anyone would have a use for it. I run one at home and it still works so far although I don't know how well it would deal with vibration. http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=XC4877&CATID=20&form=CAT&SUBCATID=842
