  1. Thanx CHAMP,just came back in from replacing the globe .I had a spare T5 in my box of tricks,swapped over the little green boot from the old globe to the new one.I checked out your guide to removing the head unit and your first couple of pictures led me on the road to removing the fascia panel to gain access to the globe socket,once again mate thanks for your help;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;The wife is a happy camper once again CONROD
  2. Hi, the wife noticed this morning that the light globe which illuminates the PRND is not working.I have tried searching for a topic on it but to no avail.Can anyone point me in the right direction as to access the globe as I dont want to stuff around and scratch or break any clips or the quadrant selector all for the sake of a $2 friggin light globe,also what type of globe is it ? T5-T10,?????? Cheers fellas CONROD If there is a topic on it ,please excuse my ignorance;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
  3. Hi Jacob12,It always makes me laugh to hear people talk about how every thing on the Aurion is set up for overseas.For Christ sake the car is Australian,it was designed in AUST, (ALTONA VIC ),it was made in AUST. Mate I dont know where you live in NSW but if you are anywhere near NEWCASTLE give Michael and Michelle Ansen a buzz as he is the one who done the alignment on our ZR6 each time we had the steering rack replaced by Toyota,and I can swear on my mothers head that after he finished, all done by 4 wheel computer readout/setup the car tracks as straight as a dye,no pulling left or right,and you get the before and after results printed out to veiw and to keep with your log books for future reference.If its too far for you I have enclosed their #.Give em a buzz. and talk to him ANSENS TYRE AND AUTO PHONE # 0249430922 ADDRESS; 7-18 Oakdale rd Gateshead 2290 but honestly mate it has nothing to do with being setup for LHD versions And yes GAZZA those Michelins might offer longevity and road holding but they are a noisy bugger of a tyre CHEERS CONROD
  4. Hi Mitch, You havent been any place where they have been doing a bit of line marking recently On a patch of road thats been resurfaced
  5. Hi CMD, good choice of tow tug.Yes mate I tow a dual axle 16ft pop top (1180kg tare) with our SR 4.0V6 5 speed auto.It produces 376NM of torque @ 2400rpm and holds it there to 4800rpm.Its a 5 speed auto but I tow in 4th,sits on a sweet spot of 2500 rpm @100km/h,which is right in the torque curve and pulls like a tractor.At around 75km/h-80km/h the clutch in the torque converter locks up ,so if I tow at 90-95km/h I know the clutch is locked up and its not open producing heat.On the flat it just runs along with minimum throttle and on an incline only requires small throttle increases to unlock the torque converter.It pulls the hills easy,I never kick it back or floor it.Yours being a diesel (3.0 litre turbo common rail )produces the same torque but at a low 1400rpm.You wont even know its on the back .If you have the factory towbar it is rated @2250kg with a 225kg ball weight. happy holidays mate CHEERS CONROD
  6. Hi SEL,Nice to meet ya, I too have a SR Hilux Dual Cab and yes mate the Side steps,nudge bar are a simple bolt on from A SR5 onto a SR. When I fitted the side steps on my SR as long as you get the brackets which are rivetted on to the side steps they will bolt straight onto your vehicle as the mounting brackets are all ready in place .All you need to get is some 12mm bolts, I picked mine up for $150.00 from memory and when I enquired from toyota they were something rediculous like $500.00 per side but I dont think you can buy them off Toyota as they mentioned something about a deleted Item,(try another dealership and ask them in person) not over the phone because they know as soon as they tell you the price you will most likely say thank you and hang up. But honestly mate dont buy new ones as the price you can pick up a nice,clean, straight OEM pair for,you will save a motsa,samee goes for the nudge bar. 4WD & 2WD same deal. Try a few wreckers (more so regional than metro) or even dealers as some people remove these items at time of delivery Take care mate, CONROD
  7. Have a gander at this William,I scanned it off the CSA catalogue I have and you can clearly see what SUV, and other vehicles with a relevant Load rated wheel share the same pcd /offset as the 4x2 Hilux.If it is a bit hard to read save it in your pictures folder than click on it and enlarge it.This should put your mind at ease.The catalogue is dated 2006,so unless the new Klugers have a different stud pattern there is no reason why they shouldnt fit,take care mate and let us know how you get on;; cheers CONROD
  8. Hi Will, mate I can give you these 2 phone numbers ring them up and verify first hand.Explain to them what you intend to do and they can give you a definate answer in regards to legallity eg; correct LOAD RATING,offset etc CSA MULLINS WHEELS---ph MELB 03 93572333 WHEELS INTERNATIONAL VIC ph 03 97064244 From memory the hole in the centre of your wheel is 59mm, if you install a wheel with a larger hole you require a tapered ring to allow the wheel to centre itself on the hub and as such allows the wheel to sit true and it takes the weight off the studs as they will be not only holding the wheel on but be carrying the weight as a result (bad mistake). But the wheels I have on are load rated,114.3 pcd,perfect fit on hub,and have been on the dual cab since I purchased them brand new off spares Dept when I bought the ute new,hope that helps out mate,but if you can take one of those 19" suckers to a wheel/tyre mob,preferably some one who fits alloys day in day out and get them to fit it and then you can see for yourself how they look,fit and check there will be no issues with rubbing especially when you turn lock to lock,cheers CONROD
  9. Hi mate how are you.What he is referring to is the centre hole in the wheel itself is larger than the required size to allow it to sit nice and snug on the hub,as this is what carries the weight not the wheel studs.All they do is hold the wheel on,To work out what size hole you require just measure one of your original wheels,your spare will do,from memory I think it is 59mm.I also put larger wheels on my 2wd 4.0 v6 SR dual cab. I tried a set of alloy 17x8 off a Territory and mate they looked sh*t hot but the tyres were the biggest issue keeping the overall rolling diameter close as possible to avoid the speedo out of wack and the main concern getting tyres of the correct LOAD RATING being a commercial vehicle,because if they are any LESS than standard fitment if you have an accident the Insurace company will drop you like a hot spud.Kluger wheels will fit like a glove.I went 16x7 original Toyota Kluger alloys,235/60 tyres, 100-load rating,V speed index.Any wheel with a PCD of 114.3 will fit,eg; Ford falcon,X-trail,Vitara BUT THEY HAVE to be LOAD RATED.Go to a tyre dealer such as Bob Jane and pick up a catalogue that shows all the relevant fitments and load index ratings and get their thoughts on the matter.That bloke at K-mart was doing the right thing and not just throwing them on for you and taking your money(THUMBS UP ).Its not worth blowing your insurance for a set of wheels,, hope that helps you out mate, Cheers CONROD
  10. Hi knasty,mate if you scroll through the topics in the Forum there is a post which goes into detail re; the knocking noise you are experiencing.We have a MY10 ZR6 and it has had two racks replaced due to the knocking noise and on both occasions its due to the (INNER TIE RODS ) inside the rack housing itself.On both occassions they installed a completely new rack,why they dont remove whats there and tighten the inner rack ends beats the sh*t out of me.Maybe someone like ADAMSY can answer that.On the last occasion we arranged it so the REP from where the steering racks actually come from can drive it and see first hand what all the fuss was about,that way Toyota can throw the problem back in their court to have a resolvable outcome but unfortunately at the last minute he couldnt get his ar*e to the dealership.So Toyotas answer to the problem just keep replacing the old with the new,thank god for 6 year premium warranties
  11. Hello once again john62 its been a while since we last heard from you.Mate Gem do machine their heads and blocks after all it is a common practice when it comes to reconditioning,but we are talking in (thousand of an inch)in the old school terminology and to say that may be the cause of your timing chain rattle is bullsh*t--pardon the french--.When you had the chain replaced ARE YOU sure they REPLACED both the chain guides and the hydraulic chain tensioner,as its only a simple job of removal and installing the new parts especially when the timing cover is removed,it sounds to me like they took off the rocker cover,removed the joining link in the chain and wound a new one on. Dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with doing it that way but the tensioner and guides would not of been replaced and I am confident if they were done your problem would be solved. You answered the question when you said a smaller filter helped ,thats because the oil pressure is getting to the tensioner quicker,rather than wait for the larger filter to fill up.But most filters now contain an anti drain back valve to eliminate this, cheers CONROD
  12. Mate I cant see anything wrong with having your headlight switch constantly set to AUTO, we personally don,t but hey as you stated{you have the creature comforts} so why not use them.The sensor is located on the top of your dash in the middle at the bottom of the windscreen as per 450HP/tonne,s Diagram.If you have a dash mat just make sure it has the relevant cut out otherwise the sensor will always be thinking it is night time. By the way there are four other settings Toyota can set in regards to the sensitivity of the light sensor {two lighter than normal & two darker than normal} Cheers CONROD
  13. Mate from memory,there is a union that you undo and remove from the carby (the fuel inlet hose/pipe) connects to it and the small gauze filter is under it,sorry I cant be more specific but it was a fair while ago now,plus getting older dont help with the memory.Mate for your sake I hope this proves to be the answer to your problem.Just out of curiosity does it do it more when you have less fuel in your tank compared to say almost a full tank? The only reason I ask is if it did it when you had say a 1/4 tank well that might indicate a cracked fuel sender pick-up and because liquid is heavier than air its sucking air.Next time it does it and you havent got a full tank of fuel if it refuses to pump fuel have a jerry can with 20 litres of fuel in it and pour the contents of this in your tank and then try it again and see if fuel is pumped through.If it does I would be pulling the sender out and checking it out, cheers CONROD
  14. Hi NUTFARMER, Mate this might not be the problem but many moons ago I had a Hilux with a (Y) series donk in it ,anyway it started to cut out when it obtained operating temp. Straight away I thought fuel pump has sh*t itself but it turned out to be the little gauze filter situated just inside the inlet on top of the carby.Fair dinkum I could not believe the amount of sediment/sh*t that had got picked up and passed thru the filters and instead of going thru the carby it slowly but surely brought the circus to a holt by completely blocking this stupid little metal gauze filter,but hey it was doing its job.I guess because it is so small and who would think of looking for a filter within the carby,but its there.So many people would be unaware of it,sh*t I didnt even know it existed until I went looking for the problem,mate it might be yours or it may not anyway worth a look, Cheers CONROD
  15. Have always gone to Charlestown Toyota after buying 3 cars off them (2 being new off the floor)All I can say is since new faces have taken over in the service dept,they have really taken a turn for the worse,especially in relation to customer needs/issues etc.What is alarming is that the good tradesman/mechanics have all bit the bullet and moved on to greener pastures and it is nearly all young inexperienced apprentices (not that I have anything against that as we all have to start off )working on that brand new $50,000 4WD. They just dont have the pride in their work such as the old fellas,leaving greasy finger prints over every thing they touch eg steering wheel,door trims,weathershield. Might have to give Newcastle Toyota a try,surely they cant be any worse than their Charlestown dept.Has anyone had any issues with either of these two that we Novacastrians should be aware of;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
  16. Same goes for Charlestown Toyota(suburb in Newcastle NSW) BE WARNED The new service manager doesnt know his ar*e from his elbow,all the good mechanics have gone,(the floor is full of young wannabees with about 5 years of total combined knowledge between them all)the blokes with all the knowledge in the spares dept have gone,its a pity really as it used to be a dept that you could have faith in but not any more;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
  17. Hi toyota pride, mate check out your boot catch as that is what switches your boot light on/off.With your boot lid open you will see the wiring go up along the RH. boot lid hinge.Mate I am not sure how many wires are within the loom, maybe there is only one and it earths out when the lid is open,that might explain why it appears dead/not active,anyway grab a screw driver and give the latch inside the catch itself a slight push.(simulating the closing action against the striker) as our boot light goes off just by me pushing the latch in about 5mm or so. I just ducked out to the garage and tried it before replying to you,, Hope all goes good for you,Cheers CONROD
  18. Mate check out the likes of Super Cheap Autos,Repco,Auto Barn etc I know they advertise them now and then . BUT be very carefull as some of them do not meet Aust standards and being a cheap import the plastic around the globe holders cannot handle the heat produced by the globe and you end up with a molten socket holder and a potential fire waiting to happen.Thats just my 2 cents worth mate,,CHEERS
  19. Piece of p*ss mate,you dont really tell us what engine we are talking about and if its the front or rear seal,so I take it we are talking about the rear.If it is a knock in seal some actually live in a plate surrounding the crank,so its just a matter of removing the plate,knock out the old seal and tap in the new seal.Drive it in as square as you can useing a large socket or a piece of pipe etc,something which is going to put the weight on the outside circumference.Dont be tempted to be a bodgie brother and take to it with a big hammer and belt the crap out of it as it will distort and leak like a bitch.If it isnt contained by a plate,dont panic just remove the old seal from its seat and using a brass or copper drift tap it home very gently,SQUARELY slowly a whisker at a time,the same as you would if replacing a seal on a front wheel hub. Now if you have a two half seal system where one half lives above the crank and the other half is contained by the sump,I wont go there as i reckon its one of the two mentioned above. Go to the wreckers and look for your motor and check out exactly what type of rear seal retention you have. While you have the gearbox out check out the state of your clutch /pressure plate,have the flywheel machined,good chance to freshen it up,as you can bet some of that oil would of found its way onto the clutch.Just a little tip if your crank is grooved from the old seal,try and reseat the new one so it runs on a fresh part of the crank,it might mean keeping it only 30-40 thou from being fully seated,mate its not a big job,but if you dont feel confident dont do it,ask someone who is capable of doing it PROPERLY,take it easy mate;;;;;;;

    08 hilux sr

    Hi ROBBD TOYOTA HILUX TURBO DIESEL 2006: FACTORY FAULTY INJECTORS... ($ OH WHAT A FEELING) 5 APR 2011 FUEL SYSTEM *COMPLAINT* RE TURBO DIESEL ELECTRONIC INJECTORS "Re turbo diesel electronic injectors. Hi guys yes there should have been a recall for the faulty injectors. I just had mine replaced by a t/d here in Brisbane costing me $3201.25. I had no choice but to replace them as they got that bad I could no longer park facing downhill for more than 10 minutes. It would spew out white greyish smoke (most embarrassing) but be warned if left all day downhill the engine would virtually lock up (hydraulic) when I went to start it. I then left it overnight with a t/d for them check it out to try and find the problem and the diagnosis all 4 injectors were ****. Leaking diesel into cylinders. So all you t/d luxy owners experiencing the engine rattle, rough idle, poor fuel economy you can bet this is the problem. Since having the injectors replaced it is a completely different vehicle to drive. Fuel economy 670 km using 70 litres highwy running compared to 550 km. I am now in the process of sending a letter to their customer relations centre to see what response I get." POSTED BY: STEVE REED - BRISBANE - QLD - AUS 5 APR 2011 PROVIDE FEEDBACK this might help you out its an extract from Complaints Corner website,check it outas it might give you the answers you need,,,

    Hilux oil leak

    AN OLD INDIAN TRICK, Hi DUVEL,have you heard of the phrase (roll her in flour and look for the wet spot),well apply the same principle. Give your motor,gearbox and transfer case a good degrease,pay particular attention to around the back of the head inc; the bell housing hose it off making sure all grease & sh*t is removed then when it is all nice and DRY,use a cheap ar*e bottle of baby talcum powder sprinkle it all over where you think the oil leak may-be originating from, start the beast up and in no time you will have found where it is coming from.As soon as you see a tell tale sign of oil shut it down and find the reason why. If its the rear seal on your crank,you might be able to remove the starter motor and shine a torch inside the bell housing for signs of oil being thrown around by the flywheel,anyway hopefully it wont come to that.It might just be a weeping rocker cover gasket at the rear and it is running down the back of the block.Ive seen some cars covered in oil underneath from gearbox to diff from a simple leaking rocker cover gasket being tightened up that tight it squashed the sh*t out of it and distorted the moment it got hot,they only need nippin,up Just watch the missus dont catch ya nickin the kids bath powder, and dissappearing to the garage::::::::::::: CHEERS CONROD
  22. Mate I know Bursons in Newcastle and on the Central Coast sell the switches as well as Autopro. If you put the lead of your test light on the POSITIVE terminal of your battery and probe the RED/YELLOW wire with your lights on low beam you will notice that it wont light up as it is live (able to confirm this by putting the lead of your test light on the negative terminal of your battery,then when you flick it to HIGH beam the RED/YELLOW wires become earth/negative.Test light will illuminate when lead of test light is put on Positive terminal and wires back probed. Switch retails for around $19.00
  23. Good afternoon Minimin,nice to meet you too mate,I hard wired mine so as soon as I flash or hit high beam they come on.I did it this way as I didnt want to drill holes for a switch and also run additional wires simply to have a switch.I figured the more I keep it original the better.I put an inline 30amp blade fuse(waterproof ) in the power supply wire from the (battery to terminal 30 on the relay )and also a 10 amp inline fuse in the wire from the RED wire on the back of the headlight plug to terminal 86 on the relay.(this wire triggers the relay so if you are running a switch run it from the red wire on the back of the headlight plug to the switch and back to terminal 86 on the relay,and as you can see the relay earths out through RED/Yellow wire on back of headlight plug when lights are on high beam, hope this helps you out mate, cheers CONRO PS Narva make a neat switch with a foglight symbol which illuminates and it fits perfectly into the hilux accessorie blanked off holes- Part#-63027BL,Let us know how you go
  24. Hi minimin,I have got the wiring diagram for hooking up spotties on the current model Hilux. I will post it up tomorrow as its to bloody cold outside at the moment to go to the shed. I know they dont hook up as normal as they use a earth return setup. Thats why you blew the fuse
