  1. Thanks Joe. I did that and I have discovered that there is no power getting to the ignition switch, but there is power from the fuse links, but it is not getting to the ignition switch for some reason. Cheers Phill.
  2. I have a Hilux 2.8 D 1989 4x4 with an electrical problem. This occurred while driving. First indication of a problem was loss of indicators and No Charge light came on. Drove it straight home fearing that if I turned it off it wouldn't start...proved to be true. I have checked fuses in the drivers side kick-panel, fuses & links in the engine bay, wiring loom visually, un-plugged and re-plugged wiring loom connections, wriggled everything I can find, all whilst having the key on and wipers, indicators etc turned on in case I got a flicker of something working. Here is what is & isn't working:- Hazard Y Horn Y Head/l Y Dome/l Y Fuel cut-off relay Y (audible click) Glow relay Y (audible click) Tail/l N Parkers N Wipers N Temp/G N Brake/l N Heat/fan N Starter motor N And the NO Charge light stays ON I have looked at the wiring diagram and can't find anything that looks common to all the non-working items. The only thing that caught my eye was wire B Y from the ignition switch. It seems to have a few of the non working items attached to it, but before I go ripping into the dashboard, I would appreciate some other opinions. Is there a in-line fuseable link that isn't in the Gregorys manual maybe? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Phill.
  3. I fitted a new coil today and all is well again for anyone interested.
  4. Does anyone know what the proceedure is to fit speakers into the tail-gate (hatch) of the station wagons? There are two removable plastic 'blanks' filling the holes, so I would like to know the speaker mounting method, hardware needed, and what type of grille or other protection is put over the speakers. Is there a kit maybe? My u-beaut (NOT) Haynes manual presumes that everyone owns a sedan. Thanks, Phill.
  5. Hi one and all! I drove my Camry to its parking spot yesterday, today it is DEAD!! This is a 4 cylinder 5S FE 2.2Litre motor. It has a distributor with the coil internal. I have a nice spark at the coil output terminal, sufficient to fire an 18" flouro tube, (sorry, no equipment for a real test) but not enough to get ANY spark at all at the plug end of any of the leads. The rotor is near new and is in perfect condition, as is the cap. The carbon terminals (brushes?) are both in good cond. and touching the rotor and the coil output terminal. The leads are well within specs, (10 to 12K) and 25K is the spec. max. The only thing I can't find a spec. on is the resistance of the internal bridge in the cap that takes the power from the coil o/put to the rotor. It is reading 15K, and I checked the old cap which was still working OK and it reads 25K so the new one is clearly better. I checked all the settings and voltages in the distributor and all is well. The engine cranks over but there is no hint of it firing. I took out a couple of leads and stuck a plug on the end and there is nothing. I also put a small (8") flouro tube in the end of the leads and nothing, yet the coil output terminal will fire an 18" tube. What am I missing here? The spark is getting lost somewhere along the line but where? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phill.
