  1. I actually think the 2.4l is reasonable pokey. What one needs to remember is that I've moved from a 1988 Tarago RV 2.2l 5 speed manual to this 97 model. I find it more than adequate. Is mine a TCR12? Is there a list anywhere that tells me what TCR12, and TCR 11 etc are?
  2. Well, I brought it home yesterday. Drives nice. The only thing I would comment on is that the car smells very hot after being driven, and the exhaust system ticks a lot as it cools, indicating that indeed is very hot. Is this normal? the exhaust system doesn't appear to be new. Other than that, i love it!
  3. oh that doesn't sound too bad then! the flange can't just be tightened?
  4. Hi all. been a couple of years now since I was last here. I had an 88 Tarago RV 5sp Manual 2.2l, and 2 weeks ago it got stolen. They smashed the windscreen, and fried the clutch. Insurance decided to write it off, as engine has also no doubt had it's nuts torn off during the night of burnouts it no doubt did. Anyway. Just bought myself a 97 GLi tarago. Pick it up next week after it gets it's roadie done. It's white, doesn't have a bull bar, or a tow bar, but that doesn't particularlt phase me. It's done 240-ish thousand kms. Auto, power bits and pieces. I'm sure you guys are familiar with this model. Anyway, managed to pick it up drive away including rego til July next year and a rwc, and including transfer for $4695. Pretty stoked with the price considering it's a June 97 compliance! During the test drive, I noticed 2 small things. The first was a whistle type sound that seemed to come from the rear of the car, but ONLY when the accelerator was being used. Sounded almost like that whistle you get in a car that runs on lpg, and the tank is almost empty. The second thing was a slight (almost imperceptible) shudder when slowing down. noticed it most when approaching a round-about. Wouldn't say it was thinking about stalling, but I noticed it. Felt like engine more than body or driveshaft shudder to me. I did just read an old thread on here about some air line under the passenger seat that gets a little one way valve blocked. The thread suggested that removing the valve helps economy and also eliminates the almost stalling issue that was being talked about in that thread. I suspect this might be the cause of what I felt, so i plan to look at that when I get it next week. Any thoughts or ideas on the whistle?
  5. Had the same problem on my 88 RV. Had the battery tested and it failed the loading test. replaced the battery and not had a problem since.
  6. Having never bought rims before, new or second hand, I'm finding it quite confusing. Anyone know what I have to be looking for if I was some alloys, or something for my 88 tarago RV? I'm getting confused with offsets, and 4 x 114.3, and 5 x 100 etc. Can anyone clarify please?
  7. Well, I picked up my tarago on Saturday, and have already done 450km since then. We took it on the Great Ocean Rd to Lorne, then to Clac, then back home. Never missed a beat the whole time, and fuel economy is looking pretty good too! Still got 1/4 tank left after 450km, so we're on track for 600km, which is what? 10l/100km? I think they're 60l tanks in these. I think nthat's pretty good!
  8. I pick up my 88 tarago on Saturdayy, and when I test drove it last week, the oil, coolant, and battery lights were flickering on and off everytime i hit a bump. They took it to the auto elecs and it was justa loose connection. thanks, did they mention which wire?alternator related?thanks again No. They actually said it was a loose plug type connection. They also said they replaced the regulator on the alernator while they had it out. Sorry I can't be more specific. I picked mine up yesterday and it drives great! Light don't come on anymore when I hit a bump, and she hums along nicely! Good luck with yours!

  10. My first car was a 1973 Mazda Savanna 808 Super Deluxe Coupe. 1.3l rocket. Had more bog in it than metal, but she went like the clappers and took everything i threw at her.
  11. Hi guys (and gals?) I just purchased a 1988 Tarago RV 5 spd 2.2EFI van thingo. lol. Never had a van before, but my partner and I have 4 kids between us, and taking 2 cars everywhere is becoming a real pain in the big toe. It's very hard to find anything about this model online (with my skills at least!). What I want to know is what were the differences between the RV, the GL, the GLX etc from that era? Was the RV particularly good or bad? Where did it sit in the range? Did they do many of them etc? Also, the Toyota model naming confuses the heck out of me. Ford use EF, EL, EA etc, but Toyota makes no sense to me. I recall I once owned a TA22 Celica with a 2T engine (1.6l from memory). Anyone know the answers to these questions, or where i can find it myself? No doubt I'll have plenty of questions about issues etc once I actually get my van. I have purchased it, but am not able to get back to the yard to collect it until Saturday. Thanks! Crash
