  1. I've spent countless hours today searching for more info on TCR10 Tarago diffs (not 4WD or S/C) and learnt quite a bit but have still have not answered my questions. Ours BTW is the F292 (4.1) diff centre with the manual G57 g'box. But might be the same in the 4WD auto/manual?. We've got a blown diff pinion bearing and it's cheaper to just swap diff centres over from another. However, for the life of me I can't find a confirmation that an auto diff is the same ratio. I suspect it's a F282 (4.3). Autos are more common than manuals, especially in Taragos. So questions are; 1) will the F282 bolt straight on my diff axle housing without mods? 2) with the change in ratio will the change be noticeable in a manual car? I assume it will be quicker off the mark but loose some on the top end, but how much by and what should I expect from the speedo reading difference? 3) are the pinions the same tooth on the F282 to the F292? 4) are they the same length so as not to affect propellor shaft length or other oddity and be a true bolt on fit? I look forward to your replies and thanks in advance. BTW I've cross posted this to the UK forum coz I didn't know the Oz one existed! Silly me! More info the better anyway me thinks.
  2. Hi, newbie here, I didn't realise that there was an Oz version of this forum and just joined the UK one! Anyway I'll talk to anyone. We have 2 Toyotas in the family. A '95 Tarago and a '90 4Runner 2.4 Petrol Sport (2 door Poverty Pack). The 4Runner is "mine" and the Tarago is my wife's...well we both drive it anyway. Kids learn to drive 'em too as they reach driving age, 2 down 2 more to go! I do all of the mechanical work, to date, on these cars as I strangely enjoy getting my hands dirty. They've both clocked lots of miles and things are falling apart but I keep fixing 'em so they stay on the road, I love a challenge. The Tarago does commuting, travelling and family duties and the 4Runner does the same (dad's taxi) but plays on the beaches often when I go fishing or windsurfing (born again windsurfer). It also gets used to travel through National Parks to get to secluded parts of lakes, beaches and campsites. Both cars perform admirally and satisfy their design briefs. The Tarago is standard and a manual and the 4Runner lifted 2" with AT 31 x 10.5 x 15 tyres. Good enough for where I normally go playing. Most information for the 4Runner I find in all sorts of 4WD forums which supports this model well, however the one that gets me stumped is the Tarago, not enough info out there. So here I am to bother you lot and I hope someone here knows more about them than I. I hope you don't mind the questions.
