  1. ummm, yeah they do, I got pricing for it a while ago, ~$8k NZD for the blitz kit for the zze123 corolla. They don't work on the drive by wire model, but they don't work on the DBW celica either... although you can convert them given the money.
  2. using what sort of gearbox? The whole engine and gearbox... Yes there would be some issues to solve but these type of covernsions are fairly common in other cars. There is Moke getting around with a Toyota engine and gearbox rear mounted. Now imagine all that nice turbo plumbing that could fit around the engine in a mid mount conversion. Or for the crazy people a compound engine. I guess... personally I'd rather use an MRS gearbox etc, I'm planning on making something along the lines of a "Locost 7" only MR instead of FR with a 2ZZ of course... could be an interesting little machine.
  3. Personally I value my spine, so if the car is also a daily driver, I would buy "sports seats"/"reclinable buckets" rather than a full on racing seat. However, if you are fully keen on getting a racing seat for track days, get something that conforms to whatever class you are racing in, no point in spending hard earned cash on a seat only having to buy another one that actually comes up to the correct safety standards. Hell, if you want a cheaper option, measure up WRX seats, as they seem to be bloody good seats, and are reasonably cheap from wreckers, or boy racers who replace them with rock solid, unbearably uncomfortable, hard to get into, racing seats.
  4. I'm not sure how the import scene is in Aussie, but both the RunX and the Allex here in NZ are essencially the same(no leather option) as the Sportivo, and come in Auto(flappy paddle as option). If you are after a wagon with the same running gear as them, there is the Fielder. From memory the imports are faily limited in Aussie, but maybe if you are that keen you could get one. Prices for the 2001-2003 models seems to be at about the $15999-18999 NZD mark here(Dunedin), but they appear to be about $2k cheaper elsewhere around the country. btw, my insurance for an 01 RunX ~ $17000 with $250 excess, is $372 a year... 25 years old, 60% NCB.
  5. not sure on the part number, but the RRP is $3500NZD, so at a guess ~$3000AUD, if you know someone who works for Toyota who "owes you one", now is the time to call in that favour. My mate(Toyota NZ employee) says that he can get them for ~$1900, but can't confim without an actual request for it(as in an order... also its 4-6 weeks ex Japan for us, maybe someone in Aussie has them local, but I doubt it. They replace the whole light assembly(and wiring needs to be changed), and are fully road legal in NZ... not sure on Aussie laws.
  6. no idea on the GB, but it sounds like the others have given plenty of options for that. the 5 mins to get to warm is normal. The struggle to idle might be something as simple as a slightly dirty MAF sensor, especially if you have changed the filter to a K&N oiled filter, or a pod sucking air from your engine bay.
  7. Already did ages ago... engine plate is here... http://dave.net.nz/id61.htm I took it with my phone, hence the crappy quality, and bad lighting, but it is readable.. just. Not Found The requested URL /id61.htm was not found on this server. Apache Server at dave.net.nz Port 80 yeah, I moved a heap of stuff yesterday in preperation for a new site. Will fix that right up in about 5 mins. http://dave.net.nz/old_site/id61.htm Will correct the URL in the first post.
  8. so no chance of emailing it either? no worries, thanks anyway.

  10. I have a zze123 Corolla RunX, and well, you guys seem to have better parts options in Aussie, so I want to check with Toyota as to what is and isn't the same between My RunX and you guys Sportivo(apart from the leather interior)... I'm eyeing up some slotted rotors for a start, needing some better brakes, but DBA say talk to my local dealer, local dealer says, "your car isn't in the manual" , but corolla sportivo is, which he says isn't good enough(I suppose he doesnt want to have to ship them back to Oz if they don't fit). So, I have a mate who works for NZ Toyota parts, and has access to pretty much everything :) , but wants a Sportivo engine plate pic to compare mine to. Either post it up here, or email it to me on dave@dave.not.nz, changing not to net(gotta avoid the spam) Thanks in advance.
  11. wow, insurance sucks on your side of the tasman, over here the only way that insurance companies can deny claims is if the modifications are... "a direct and contributing factor to the accident"... what this means is that as long as you get good quality gear, and get it setup correctly(if adjustible), then they can do squat about it. Over here, one of the things that a lot of the "boyracers" do, is all go in a group to an insurance broker, so that he can go to an insurance company and say, "I have 30 guys, all with modified cars, and they want insurance" 30 guys is a nice bit of business for the brokers, and they try to get you a really good deal. I hope you guys find a good solution to insurance hassles.
  12. I too had read about that... the stock oil pan is not sufficient to keep oil going to the engine at ~1G of sideways action... they changed the pan in the Lotus(added a baffle), and also in the Toyota Racing series here in NZ(2zzge in an open wheeler) after a few weeks of failures based on oil starvation. I've been looking at one of these(aftermarket pan) as I will be doing a bit more track action shortly... but $499USD, ouchy.
  13. Why is everyone obsessed with 1/4 miles these days? I would have thought that more than a 1/4 mile would be needed to get the "fastest car" title, I mean if you strap a rocket to a Datsun Sunny, it'll eventually go a hell of a lot faster than any car here, and yet by the reckoning above, it won't be the fastest due to not doing it in a 1/4 mile(although I suspect it would still be pretty damn fast given that contraint too). Personally I'd like to see more track days, where we(as a community of young car entusiests) could actually compar results on a track. it also might get rid of some of the stereotypes, like cars dropped to damn near the ground being better for cornering, giant wings on skylines makes them faster, exhausts you can fit your head into that sound horrid make your car faster.... /me steps off my soapbox. oh, and because it's friday, yeah its old, but it's still damn funny. <- = funny as hell.
