  1. Went to the K&N site and found this, http://www.knfilters.../clningacc.htm. Can anyone provide guidance as to which is the right product to use to oil the filter in a Typhoon?
  2. Reading all this kind of makes me glad that I only own a ZR6, haha.
  3. Agreed, but I still get the funky egg smell though, and for the life of me, can't work out how to get rid of it. :(
  4. I wouldn't say luck, so much as the ability to read instructions hahaha.
  5. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/K-N-Typhoon-Series-Cold-Air-Intake-Filter-Kit-69-8611TS-/350506755784?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item519bd4a6c8 I think I may have gotten mine a tad cheaper. Installation - $0, did it myself. It comes with pretty detailed instructions that takes about 1-3 hours depending on the person.
  6. So I've been driving in the 38/34 setup for the past 2 weeks, trying to determine how the change has affected the overall ride. Initially, the change in handling of the car felt more responsive and and turning seemed easier. Now I will admit that perhaps a certain amount of "placebo" effect came into play, which is why I drove the car in this setup for 2 weeks instead of the initial 1. I feel that after getting accustomed to the change, that there is still an improved sense of handling where turning seems easier, but maybe not as much as previously thought. If I had to rate it, it'd be about a 7-8 / 10. For the moment, I'll remain in this setup and try it out some more. I'll give 36 all round a shot in 2 or so weeks.
  7. Can anyone else confirm that this is true? As far as I can tell, the drive is the same to me.
  8. You raise quite an interesting point and one that I hadn't thought of earlier. Anyway, I stopped at the air hose during my fill up today and my front tyres were registering 30 odd PSI and the rears were around 28. So I increased these to 38 and 34 respectively and I can report a difference in handling. At the moment I can't comment as to whether it's an improvement or how drastic that improvement is, but all signs are pointing to a noticeable improvement. I think I might run with this for a week or so and see how it feels and then maybe drop/raise each of the pressures to 36 all round, then see how that affects everything. As a reference, prior to the tyre pressure change, handling was never an issue and if I had to rate it, it's be a 6-7 / 10. The rating should probably be higher, but I thought I'd leave some room for further assessment/comparison.
  9. Cheers, I'll go for a 38 and see how I go from there. Now, to sort out my upcoming engine service :C
  10. Sorry to dig this thread up, but I'm up for my 90,000 km service soon. It's kind of worrying that prices range from $500 - $900 and I'm a bit worried about spark plugs change if I were to do it myself. Normally, I'd do it all myself, but looking at DJKOR's pictures, I'm not sure if it's worth it to change the spark plugs myself :S. There's probably more that I need to do, but I don't have my manual on me haha.
  11. :S, I haven't checked my tyre pressures for so long; I feel like I've been neglecting my Aurion. Going to have a look tonight when I fill up; just quickly, what pressure am I supposed to be aiming for? I know it's preferential in most cases and that the door panel tells me how much I should be pumping, but what do you guys have your tyres pumped to?
  12. Looking to try this out for myself. Anyone have a guide on how to gut the Aurion like shane_85 has done? The AUX plug won't be my only custom mod, but yeah, is there a guide on how to gut my console like shown in the link in the opening post?
  13. Driving on the highway is pretty good imo. I literally just got back from the airport, and the drive's smooth and essentially quiet. Not sure how this compares to a 380, but being of similar size and possibly better build quality (?), the Aurion should be at least as good as the 380 in this department, if not better. Plenty of the guys here on the board have upgraded to the eBay units, so they'll be able to give you a better idea of how they are. I remember reading a little while ago of screen issues and buttons pressing themselves; whether this is still around, I'm not sure. Personally, I like the stock system because it does pretty much what I'm after (minus the AUX). The idea of an after-market unit that has bluetooth and GPS navigation sounds great, but I have a smartphone and a bluetooth headset for that. Having said that though, if a unit comes out that's near perfect (i.e. next to none ghost touches) then I'd probably consider after-market.
  14. LOL, how did I forget about the keyless entry. I absolutely love that!
  15. Welcome Shiloh76, I couldn't really comment on the whole whole Mazda 6 vs Aurion conversation, but I will say that comparing the Honda Accord Euro and the Aurion has the Aurion coming out ahead by a long shot. I've found the Aurion to be smoother, more comfortable and generally well-built. The Euro is a little more responsive (handling wise) in my opinion, and I think may do a little better in terms of fuel, but I would take the Aurion over the Euro pretty much everyday of the week. The SX6 is a great option, especially since you're not interested in the leather; however, the parking sensors for me have been pretty useful. To be honest, if you had the choice of spending a little over your budget (I'm talking maybe $1,000), I'd heavily consider the option of the ZR6, but if you're really not all too fussed about the luxury options that the ZR6 brings, then I think the SX6 will do you just fine. When comparing the two models (1st & 2nd generation), I think someone else might better be able to compare the two, but in terms of what's under the hood, they should all be exactly the same; I know the interior differs, but I'm not sure how. The headlights came into effect post-facelift, so if you don't like it, then I think you're looking at the 1st generation Aurion. Looking at the headunit, I guess it'd depend largely on how likely you are to change it. If you're already thinking of switching over to the touch-screen units you see on eBay, then the generation model factor becomes moot. I know post-facelift there was an AUX option, but that will need to be confirmed; however, you can 'relatively' easily custom mod an AUX into the 1st generation Aurion. Might take a bit of time, but I'm a firm believer that doing this kind of thing will help grow your attachment to your car. I think I might be one of the lucky ones in terms of rattles; I've driven my 07 ZR6 for almost 9 months now, and I've yet to experience a single rattle. Although, I should mention that mine was second-hand and if there was prior history of rattle, I don't know about it. In terms of the car, it's been everything I thought it'd be and then some. I'd recommend perhaps looking at a colour that's not black, as the body kit that comes with the Sportivo range has black 'trimming' and the black body kind of hides that. The other colours seem to contrast so well, especially the white. I only purchased mine in black because the price was unbelievably cheap. That's about it from me.
  16. The best I've ever gotten is about 8l/100km driving on essentially regional Melbourne roads. Driving in metropolitan Melbourne (so Springvale, Glen Waverley etc), it's too hard to stay under 10.5. Funnily enough though, if I try to keep my rev's below 2000 (during acceleration as well) I can get sub-10 efficiency, but it's kind of annoying. Also, I use Woolworths Caltex unleaded, not even the 95 one.
  17. I'm with DJKOR on this one, and having worked in the retail industry before, it's not uncommon for companies to just comply with the customer because they can't be bothered dealing with the hassle. Claim-wise, that's up for debate because if you look at it from Toyota's view, they've got a customer coming up to them 12 months after purchase claiming of a cracked cup holder; there has to be some suspicion there. I'm not doubting OP's claim, but from Toyota's point of view, I don't think they've done anything wrong. I can't speak for everyone else, but I sensed a hint of arrogance in OP's post and I wouldn't be surprised if he approached Toyota the same way. I'm not following the lead sheep or anything, just that from a business point of view, Toyota really hasn't done anything wrong.
  18. I flicked through the forum and found the thread of what I was describing. So it does seem like it's from the fuel. There's no real mention of how to fix it though. And it also seems a bit weird that I only got it after changing my intake. Any suggestions on a fix? I might stop filling up at Safeway-Caltex from now on and see how that goes. Will try flooring it a bit more to see how I go with the smell.
  19. That's what I thought too. But I guess I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with an after market CAI? And also what I might do to fix the problem.
  20. So a while ago, I was on this forum constantly. However, due to work and other things, my time on TOCAU took a back seat and eventually disappeared. Anyway, so I'm looking at trying to increase my TOCAU time again, so here I am C:. Just a quick update/introduction: I bought my black 07 ZR6 mid-February of this year at a price that still makes me smile. Around a month or two after, I installed a K&N CAI to replace the original; not for any performance reasons, but rather audio (I did a quick review a while back). Since then, I have made no modifications to the car but I plan to perhaps add an AUX input for my stock head unit just like in shane_85's guide or purchase an after market head unit. My opinions so far are that the car is brilliant (in my eyes) and I'd do it all again if I had the choice. My only thing against my ZR6 is that it's black and there's no contrast between the black grill/lip/bumper and the body paint (the contrast in colour looks pretty good), but really, I'm just nitpicking here. With regards to the CAI, it's a love-hate relationship there; I love the sound that I get when I go past 3000 RPM, but the smell I get is very off-putting. To describe it further (and keep in mind this only happened after the intake was installed and only when I put my foot down), the smell is kind of like a cross between rotten egg and fart. Could anyone hazard a guess as to why this is happening?
  21. Ahh yeah, well I sort of suspected that, but nice to know that it's nothing sinister! Cheers! Not a problem. It's worth every cent.
  22. Hey guys, as I mentioned about 2-3 weeks ago, I was looking at cold air intakes, and decided on the short ram intake (SRI) from K&N. Anyway, here's a little review that I thought I might do for it, and anyone who might be interested could have a read or something. Thought I'd start a new thread because the other one was just about questions really. Who to buy it from? Pretty much anyone that sells it. But, I HIGHLY recommend 'worldwideperformance' on eBay (http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/worldwideperformance/?_trksid=p4340.l2559). They estimated 2 weeks delivery, but it came in 1, which was a nice surprise. For those that are interested, I purchased one like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/K-N-Typhoon-Cold-Air-Intake-07-11-Toyota-Camry-3-5L-V6-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2c597d08ecQQitemZ190479927532QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories How hard was it to install? Not hard at all. It took about an hour and a half, and most of it was just getting the bolts to thread properly or finding the right nut/bolt/washer. But the threading bit was a bitch! By threading, I mean getting the nuts and bolts to fit in straight. Also, there was one small thing with the 'box' or casing, but I'll cover that in the next section. Anything of concern? Only about 3 things: - When placing the box/casing in, it doesn't fit as well as I would have thought, in that the casing rubs up against the intake vent, did anyone else have this? (I'll photo it if I get a chance) This was by far one of the biggest time wasters, as I spent a good solid 15 minutes getting it to sit right, but after a bit of effort, it finally sat properly. - After restarting the car, my trip computer has dramatically increased my fuel consumption counter (litres/100km, albeit this might be because I floored it everywhere to get that induction noise) and also, the range sky-rocketed from a predicted 500ish kms left to about 650km. Anyone know why this might be? I'm worried that I may have screwed up the sensors perhaps? Or the trip computer? - I have like two mini-screws and two washers left and for the life of me, can't find where it goes haha. Everything is in securely, and I can't remember seeing them used, so yeah, not sure. How has it been since you installed it? So after installation, I checked and made sure everything was secure then started him up and let him run for about 10 minutes on idle (apparently to reset the ECU, and also gave me some time to clean up). Then I took him out for a spin, and it should be noted that the clouds cleared up and the sun shone through because I was back on the road (OK, so I lie, the sun was already out :P). I started it off slowly, wanting to ease it in and check for any weird sounds or anything of that sort. After a good solid 2 minutes of no rattling or anything, I revved it a bit higher to check for more sounds (will go into a bit of detail about the sound below). Everything was sweet, so I floored it and the sound was beautiful! In the past when I floored it, you could hear the engine and it sort of purred loudly, now with the intake it, there's like a deep-ish loud intake sound (absolutely brilliant). As far as I could tell, this is how it breaks down in my car... - When I press the throttle so that the tachometer stays below 2500 rpm, there's next to no difference in sound (a good thing imo) - When I press it a bit more, where the tachometer reaches about 3000 to 5000 rpm, you can hear a noticeable difference, where the sound is deeper and groan-ier, but still a 'whirring' noise - Anywhere from 5000 rpm and up (full throttle), the sound of the intake is deep and loud. Not to the point where you can't talk/hear anything, but loud enough that would turn heads Final thoughts Anyone who is considering an intake kit for their car, I think most brands would sound much the same. But for the money I paid for this K&N and my experience with this, I'd stick with this brand until something majorly bad happens. Would I recommend this intake for anyone? YES! It may take you up to 2 hours to install, but the experience of getting to know your car is priceless imo, not to mention the sound you get. Finally, special thanks to DJKOR, VF-X and Kenpo for their advice in the other thread (http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=31600)
  23. Since you lodged your claim with your insurance company, I'm not so sure the other driver's insurance company is supposed to contact you. As far as I know, that's one of the reasons you tell your insurance company everything (other than the claim bit).
