  1. I just gave my 2011 Kluger to my daughter with 405000 kms on it. Still going strong! (always serviced)

  3. Just got mine replaced 3 year old Kluger 100000kms, it had already been replaced once, had got to the stage it felt dangerous?? No idea how Toyota get away with this, I just despair at the greater number of Kluger / Camry owners, who are so out of touch with their vehicles that they don't notice the clunk. That said the dealer said he had 300 DPRs on his desk for this problem, and mine was one of the first they had actually fixed. The "story" my dealer told me was that for each individual car they have to submit a DPR, and the part/repair gets "authorised" by Toyota? It is quite a separate process from the regular warranty process. Once my DPR was submitted, I followed up with a complaint to Birte at customerexperience@toyota.com.au I phoned and then emailed, I would urge you all to do the same. It's pretty sh!ty that Toyota don't just product recall this. edit: Not sure if Im imagining it or not, but the new ISS feels way better than the original even when it didn't clunk
  4. Huh? http://lmgtfy.com/?q=toyota+intermediate+steering+shaft http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/40958-attn-kluger-owners-steering-intermediate-shaft-knocking-noise/ http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/37637-intermediate-steering-shaft/
  5. The point is, it's not just Klugers, but other toyota variants in the mid range size cars? ie camry / rav 4 etc have all be subject of repair / recall etc.
  6. Yep had mine replaced at about 20k or 30k (can't remember) and its been back again from 45k now at 60km and much worse.
  7. Down load either doc from my dropbox, and you will see an exploded diagram
  8. Actually I was wrong, looks like from 2003 same part same problem?? https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25027612/TOYOTA%20TECHNICAL%20SERVICE%20BULLETIN%20ST001-06.pdf https://dl.dropbox.com/u/25027612/TSB_ST003_04%20Steering%20Link%20Shaft%20Noise.pdf%E2%80%8E.pdf NHTSA Technical Service Bulletin: 10019873 / 00106 Tagged with: TOYOTA > CAMRY > 2003 Vehicle Database Page TOYOTA > CAMRY > 2004 Vehicle Database Page TOYOTA > HIGHLANDER > 2004 Vehicle Database Page TOYOTA > HIGHLANDER > 2005 Vehicle Database Page TOYOTA > CAMRY > 2005 Vehicle Database Page TOYOTA > CAMRY > 2006 Vehicle Database Page TOYOTA Service Bulletin Number: 00106 Replacement Service Bulletin Number: 00106 NHTSA ID #: 10019873 Bulletin Date: Thu, 02/16/2006 Failing Component(s): 013100 STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT SECTOR Summary: STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NOISE. *AK
  9. We have a 2011 Kluger, it is our first Toyota, Great Car, but the one thing that connects the person to the car, is the steering wheel, so a problem in the steering, seems much magnified over say a knock in another part of the car. For this reason alone, you would think that Toyota would sort this out. However, a quick internet search of this issue reveals that it has been a reported problem for at least 6 years on different Toyota variants. In some vehicles, it has even been the subject of a recall. Clearly Toyota are not currently motivated to fix it. Whilst the problem may not currently be a safety issue, you would wonder at the longer term ramifications of it. Is it possible that there is in fact increased wear on that part? Could this lead to catastrophic failure of that part?
  10. This AND the fact that some novated lease companies get screaming good deals with Toyota :) of course you probably pay for this in the the fees they charge!
  11. Have a 2011 Kluger, had the intermediate steering shaft replaced at 30 or 40k service, problem returned very quickly, have mentioned it at each service since then, but the service centre Buckles have done nothing, service manager told me toyota are obviously aware of the problem, but haven't come up with a solution yet???? Other than replace the shaft. Very disappointing.
  12. Our Kluger is just pushing 60oooKs and is 20 months old (we drive to melb and the snow a lot from SYD). Still feels like a new car (when it is clean) we had the steering shaft prob, but god thats nothing compared to the problems friends have with Euro cars (VWs etc) This car is our first Toyota, and there will be MANY more, if they are all like this!
  13. Just an update, the new mat they gave me is a slightly different design, it doesn't have the "dangly" bits around the seat belts that seemed to contribute to the tearing
  14. If you want to get into the mail order business, maybe reply in this thread over at the toyonation forum http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/122-2nd-generation-2008/412021-highlander-2012-aftermarket-radio-like-some-klugers.html Or for anyone who has removed their standard stereo....
  15. well i went to buckle toyota today for a service, and with some trepidation, mentioned the cargo mat was torn. Suggested it may be common, they went away, and are replacing it "as an act of goodwill" rather than under warranty. very happy....
  16. You will end up with a new part on your steering column, I had this done recently

    Side Steps

I have a a pair from ebay bought them with roof rails together for 500? maybe less for cash, cant really remember.
  18. Oddly I know about 5 people on the northern beaches of sydney, who have had the very same experience with VWs ranging from 2 golfs, 1 Bug convertible, 2 multivans. It's beyond me why people still buy them?
  19. Hi All, I have a new KX-R, and want to pick up an extra 12v under the dash, so that I can run a 12v line up to an on dash GPS, also want to discretely power a DVD player in the middle row (back of front passenger seat) Anyone got any tips on the best place to pick up 12v, and also how to go about it? Was thinking of piggybacking off the 12v outlet in the dash, but there seems no obvious way to get at it? Any suggestions / directions appreciated.
  20. With the genuine steps yes, the ebay steps probably not. If I remember correctly, the ebay steps protruded slightly, enough to push a mudflap forward. If your sidesteps are touching your rear mudflaps you're in serious trouble :P This is correct, the eBay ones do not actually fit perfectly front to rear, they protrude fwd by perhaps 2 cms. Going to give the guy a call about this.
  21. So I put the drivers side step on last night, and sheared this small 6mm bolt, stupid I know, (they are only mild steel, I have since replaced them with hi tensile ones from Bomond Trading) it's the only part of these steps that worries me. They fit great, very good tolerances with the bottom of the doors. I posted elsewhere, that I went out to the Oznest warehouse, and paid cash for both side steps and roof rails, and got a bit of a discount. I'm very happy, it's made my poverty pack Kluger fit in with his relatives.... :-) We bought the KXR AWD with rear seat optioned, with which you get the rear A/C controls.
  22. Hi Everyone, been lurking a while, picked up my new 7 seat KX-R AWD today. Went out to the Oznest warehouse yesterday and picked up roof-rails and sidesteps. He was careful to tell me they are NOT genuine toyota accessories :-) All the info on them references the Higlander. I suspect that he has hooked into a manufacturer who supplies aftermarket to the USA. It is all very good quality, I doubt anyone other than a dealer could tell you the stuff is not genuine. Although the side steps are not quite the same as the Aussie ones, the roof rails are very similar, and even have the same codes and markings as the genuine product? Go figure. The instructions are very well written English they are definitely NOT Chinglish. He did a deal for cash and even has the 2011 black/silver combo in the roof rails. Yes the sidesteps from the older model are interchangeable with the 2011 model. Can't speak for the nudge bar though. Didn't look at it. Everything is very well boxed and packaged, I would say it would freight no probs without any damage at all. His warehouse is in Greenacre NSW.
