  1. Do you mean the driver's window goes all the way up with one click? Yes, it did. I don't think I've seen one that doesn't. Either way, I just bought whatever I found available without asking and it turned out it was one of those.
  2. Yes, all original parts sourced from wreckers. You will need motors (which come attached to the mechanism), switches, switch surrounds and door cards all from a power window equipped car. Not that many came with rear power windows. Beware, door cards from cars made in South Africa (mostly hatchbacks) do not match perfectly. They have little annoying differences like a clip hole in the wrong place. From memory (car is now gone) electricals (plugs/switches etc) didn't have any difference.
  3. Yeah, somebody probably drove it low on oil or something like that and killed the bearings. How much is it to change the oil pump? If it's not too much I would try a last ditch effort and see.
  4. What do you mean by often? How many k's on the clock? And when was the pump changed last time if at all? Your only hope is that the pump is gone. If that's not it, you don't have any other hope, the engine is worn out. You don't need to thrash the car to kill the engine. Just drive a few km when it's low on oil or some such and your bearings are toast. Lots of sludge would suggest some neglect in oil changes, possibly running the engine low on oil. Changing oil on time and with the correct one should keep internals clean even in high mileage cars. Also, you need high oil pressure at low RPM, not at high RPM. Load factors into it as well, but generally speaking if you chug it along at low revs you are more likely to wear the bearings (and glaze the cylinder bores) because you don't have enough oil pressure to keep the rotating parts away from their bearings or in the case of the pistons to expand the rings and properly push them into the bore. I have a high mileage 2005 car but the previous owner lived in the country and did long trips to work and back, not a few k's with a cold engine in start stop traffic and then stop like city cars. The result is the engine pulls like a train. We are killing it now with short trips to shopping and such but when I have a chance I boot it up the freeway as much as I can. When you measured the pressure with the mechanical gauge, was the oil (engine) up to temperature? If it holds pressure when the oil is cold and then it is losing it I would say the pump is good and the engine is gone.
  5. I have added power windows to my wife's 2005 wagon (car didn't have any) and they work very well with one exception. The driver's door window doesn't do the one touch function (just click it up and goes all the way - I have to hold it up). Is this a problem with the electronic board under the master switches, or did I forget to get some other gizmo from the donor car, or did I make a mistake in installing it? Just to clarify, all the motors, switches, etc came with their wiring harnesses came from the same donor, they all just plugged into my car, wire colours matched, etc, pretty much plug and play. The master switchboard came with window lock and door lock functions as well, both work perfectly.
  6. I am looking at doing a few jobs on my wife's corolla soon(-ish) and would like to know if there's any chance I can buy OEM parts cheaper than main dealers. Anyone have any info, please share here. I am looking at front wheel bearings, dampers all around, tailgate struts (wagon), possibly brakes (discs). On another topic, I would like to add fog lights to the car. I have found all the wiring is there even though the car is a povo pack Ascent just need the lights themselves and perhaps the dash switch. I have looked around but can't find anywhere the part numbers, anyone know where I can find these (parts or numbers)? Car is a 2005 auto model. Looks like this:
  7. I don't own any Toyota at the moment and the only one I ever owned was a Liteace. Not the best car in the world to start with, but did its job perfectly and never let me down, so all in all quite happy to have had it. Of late though I discovered after going through a number of cars including BMWs, Renaults and Peugeots (I am very particular to the 60-70s vintage for a number of reasons, but have owned more recent cars too). that I would really like somethiong rear wheel drive. Nothing wrong with front wheel drive, and I love all my cars, but I was really hooked when I discovered some time ago the Toyota Sport 800 (there was one in the Fremantle motor museum recently moved to York). Ever since (about six years) I have trawled the net, papers and magazines to no avail. I have just about given up on it, and would be happy to find a nice AE86 but everything I find is either rubbish, or riced up beyond reason, or gone beyond the no return point mechanically or expensive for no apparent reason. It shouldn't be that difficult to find a nice used one, I imagine. Hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later. Nice to be here and hopefully I will find the help I need.
