  1. Just under 30K ZEEROLLA- with roof and metallic paint. Yeah, the looks to me are a little 'wimpy'..... its only a little bigger than a getz!! Zee, going from the corolla to this..... it's a shoebox with a really nice interior and ride...... but the whistle as boost builds.... and the exhaust crackle on downchange...... it's so wrong AND right for many reasons I agree it is far from evo! In 6 months i see: 1200KG, 145KW & 320NM....and it should last. I see this more than the looks of the polo.
  2. Thanks Northy, Yes.. tilt AND reach steering wheel.... hmmm dreams :P Once the Vdub is run in and chipped..... i will pay a visit! It made me smile, just in stock form driving it :D
  3. Nek, I've stacked in 58.45 L..... the car was coughing around corners!! When the fuel light comes on, you have at least 10L.... Im never in a rush to fill unless its cheap(er) My lowest average over a tank has been 7.6L/100Klm, all of that was freeway driving to sydney, 4 ppl and luggage, air con off.
  4. Thanks for the comments guys. Hmmm.... Evo9.... I wont be racing KaZe!! Saiya, the facelift stivo has most of the mods done, best check with an owner of the update models to be sure.
  5. My Stivo goes next week ............... Overall Iv'e been very happy with the performance of the car, and you just can't beat the sound of 8K RPM on song.... this i will really miss :( I just got my drivers seat belt replaced today, the second one in 3 years, it seems to cut through where it goes through the buckle, to an unroadworthy condition ...... I am 5'7, 65kg...... sit in a proper way in the seat (arms just bent etc etc) so a normal size guy.... im not a courier, I use about 1 tank of fuel every 10 days. My seatbelt took 7 weeks to arrive, 3 bookings -for a total of 5 dealer visits...... the belt costs around $400. I really don't expect to replace the belt every 18 months... out of warranty and a cost of $400. I wrote to toyota in my survey, asking them to look after the belt out of warranty in the future, and they never replied. If toyota were after "continous improvement".... they would look at this problem and try to really fix it. The stivo has had its fair share of issues, overall the car has been ok. I have has Synchros, cables, ECU-recall, alternator and 2 seatbelts attended to under warranty. Service with these cars is often soooooooo hard, it took toyota 2 years to finally agree that the shifting in my gearbox was sh*te..... So i got 1 year of nice driving. They tried to blame me for the alternator - i have replaced the stereo system.... Im a qualified electronics tech, and have installed over 300 car systems. They have a pretty good product, which I will not buy for a long time, until they put in a few more bucks to the service dept....or never. Last April to June quarter (3 months), Toyota made 4.45 BILLION US$.....more than $50,000,000 per day. they really should put an extra desk girl here and there, I have waited 45+ minutes to collect my car after service 3 out of 5 times.... the car is ready, they just cant get the paperwork done in less than 45 minutes. So.... This is being replaced with a Polo GTI, in silver with a hole in the roof.... once we see 15,000K's, im looking at ECU, goes to about 140kW and.... 340NM of torque.... I know im cheating with a turbo.... but its just too easy to breathe on these engings, and the car comes in under 1200KG. Im really hoping VW are nice service guys... they give you a loaner, which is a start, and I also reckon because they don't do 100+ cars per day, they just might pay some attention to the customers they have. Sorry for the long winded post, but we all know who reads these things, and i wanted to get 3 years of my first Toyota ownership "experience" off my chest. Cheers guys, Pete.
  6. 06/2003 74,000 k's........ Motor is still getting better with the k's. Took me 2 yrs, but the stivo is now a nice drive with the gearbox and clutch done.
  7. Ok, thanks MAX002, I will sell my sportivo, as it seems 'maxed out' at 8,200 when I hear it sing!! I guess we would ALL be better off buying a GENIII commo-something..... I mean, with all that slop in the pistons/rings....oil consumption etc, There's plenty of room for more gains from this motor than ours!! Get REAL MAX...... Get your BIG GENIII d i c k out of a 4 cyl jap forum!!! Get a LIFE ;) And have a nice day.....
  8. Congratulations Neil, Shows how easy you can take a toyota out and have a ball at one of the best racetracks on the planet...... with the right preparations granted. Also, a great show for the stroker kit, a decent hike in power, no extra weight,..... no extra bits hanging on, no more complexity. This sounds like THE mod to do - with intake, exhaust and a port & polish. I was under the impression the stroker kit capped the redline at around 7,6-7,8K RPM. If I can keep my 8k+ redline, i'm really interested in this... $$$$ to do, but in the end, not much more than F/I and really is the better way to go.......if your looking for an easily driveable fast Rolla. Go Trama Stivo '07!
  9. Hey Dejavouz, Try this..... http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...?showtopic=2020 Failing that, try and best isolate when it happens..... and see a dealer with the aim of repeating the fault. "Other occasions"..... is this hours??? Days?? Weeks??? If it is from time to time...... are you buying good fuel?? Batch to batch can vary... brand to brand moreso. Fuel is like underwear.... we all need it, and we all choose differently. I find BP Ultimate seems to work well...consistent, previously i was an optimax man... but found this varied from batch to batch i reckon by about 5% in power...
  10. The Corolla has been testing in 3.0 and 3.5v6 guise, being new gen camry engines. The models being tested are AWD and most likley for Euro and/or North America consumption. The cost on this in oz would be huge (guess over $45k?).... so a turbo/supercharged is likley from TRD oz for the next gen rolla... if they make 1 sporty.
  11. Hey everyone, I have been wondering how some of you guys had so many postings in the club in such a short space of time I was wondering where all the "words of wisdom" were stashed in your MASSIVE post counts....... And here are the words of wisdom?? MY word is F UC KSTICK
  12. Let's get the brakes sorted while we have some time left..... Can I 'give the plug' to a Tarox 10 pot caliper/disc set.. yep 10 pot..... all yours for around 5k oz$ http://www.edworthys.co.uk/product~prodID~800277.asp that should pull the echo up in a FEW METERS from 100 kph
  13. All corollas and many toyotas do this. Many Hondas do it as well, It part of their LEV (Lean Emission Vehicle) system. The engine idles fast to warm up the cat/converter quickly, to further lower emissions. It is not adjustable, unless your good with the ECU. I don't know of anyone who has done this.
  14. Sounds like the alternator is 'on the way' Jeff. Mine alternator died 3 weeks ago...... Just the same as Azza, though my battery is AOK. The earthing cables sound like a good idea.... As all rollas i know of dim lights with power windows. The reason the dimming is not completley gone is the puny power cables they run through the doors. I noticed this when fitting my sound system. The reason??? This should give you an idea: http://www.sme.org/cgi-bin/get-newsletter....EAN&20051011&4&
  15. Aklobi, Your SA corolla's revisions are to suit local market tastes in what 'looks appealing', and/or local requirements such as better ventilation requirements for your climate, tougher/softer fabrics etc. The differences you have are not 'generational'. Our spec is not older or newer than yours. In saying that, WE STILL DON"T HAVE THE 3 DOOR :( Australia has ALWAYS been behind in corolla generations, at times for 3+yr, that's because we are globally a tiny market, and let's face it, the average corolla buyer is much older than most of us here, and don't care too much. This is now not a problem, we get the new models pretty much straight away, but choice of only a few variants of any one model compared to Asia. Karachi- and most of India, has these older "new cars" because they stand up to their s*** roads, and being a developing nation, the average person wants a car as cheaply as possible, but all that is changing there too!
  16. Top speed on the flat (not downhill) is definatley a 5th gear job, I squeezed 218 out of mine on the flat, on a slightly less than perfect road, and the rolla was rock solid, 6th was good for about 10 seconds, then just ran out of puff. I was flat to the floor for 3 minutes, saw the fuel gauge drop almost one whole point :o The tivo is geared for 250kph, if you can get the torque to pull 6th gear-blower anyone?, or a nice downhill run :D
  17. It is a pity, I have had pieces of mine (namely inner plastic guard) fall off, because they didn't put all the plastic clips in at the SA plant when they made the car. I happend to be doing over 100 mph (yes i was in NT) when it flew out, needless to say, I shat for a moment when it happened. The air pressuse sheared the clips that were there clean off. Upon closer inspection, 3 clips had NEVER been there, and it was on the front part and the lower front part, which of course is where the plastic guard cops the most abuse from air/water etc. I'm not knocking SA specifically, I'm knocking Toyota, it often takes time to get a plant into a good rythm, may take 10+ years, I don't know how long SA has been exporting cars for, but the dudes on the production line need to know that EVERY part of a toyota has been engineered to be there, and they waste NOTHING, so by that rationale, they should put ALL the parts in, simple. If Toyota are going to export cars from SA, then the dudes who are making the cars have to give a F***. Oh, and I'm sure people will attest, how many of us have the inner boot tail-light covers (the carpeted ones) fall off??? Iv'e put mine back at least 30 times, now I have given up. Can I ask the guys out there with Jap hatches, do they fall off too?? I'm curious, as if the jap ones do, then it is a design fault, not SA's.
  18. My 20c. Running it in Firm but not hard -as in go real easy for first 4-6hr, and pick up gradullay from there to around the 100 hr mark, so say up to around 3,500klm. But everyone has their preferences, which is why this is only MHO. I once got a magna from my mum (slowwww driver) that had done 16,000 klm and had used on average 13.8 litres over 12 months she had it, we worked at the same company and she wanted my vx como, so of course I swapped her! I got it by the scruff of the neck and 12 months later i was getting 12.6L average, it was still tight in the 'top end' when i got it, and even in the midrange (i doubt mum took it over 4k the whle time she had it). Running in can also add or subtract from the overall engine life, my own method (tried over 700,000+ klm) is: Get standard oil and filter change at 1,000 k's. Go standard service and oil up to 20-30,000 k's and change to a full synthetic after that, to me this is the best way to preserve an engine in top mechanical condition. I use mobil1. First change to full synthetic should be in for 1,000k's then do an oil/filter change (flush), and just change every 10,000k's thereafter which is still an easy life for a full syn oil. I really believe changing to a full synthetic when the engine is only 1,000k's old is not right, as the full syn oil is really that good that it will take almost forever to fully run-in the engine!! I even find that after the 40,000 and 50,000 k's the engine is STILL freeing up in the top end, that's probably how long it takes to "fully" run in an engine. 4cyls tend to feel their best after 40,000 and ive had 3 different 6 cyl jap engines, and bearing in mind it's a standard tune motor, don't fully free up until 50,000K's+ Again, these are just 12 years of my observations, there is many different ways to do it, and welcome anyone else out there that covers the K's in their own method of running in....... Just not in this post :P
  19. What toyota is doing with the camry/avalon engine spec is understandable as they sell something like 4:1 of 4/6cyl, but FORCING people like barryc to either accept an avalon or walk away if he wants a 6cyl is shameful. The 6cyl camry is a sensational drive, my friend has the vienta '02 and its a syrupy drive with the (just ok but gr8 for everyday driving) grunt is superb. Toyota shouldn't force 6cyl buyers into an avalon. I have seen the US version of our avalon update when I was there 4 weeks ago, and it's a much better looking car, I personally don't mind it, but in todays day of MINIMUM impact for a vehicle over its life, surley a 6 camry would be slightly more economical than an avalon on brakes/tyres/fuel, and over 15 years of someone driving this vehicle, that adds up to a fair bit. If Jim and Joan don't need the space of the avalon (it's a pretty big MOFO) and jim likes the grunt, why cant he have a V6 Camry??? Let's also bear in mind that the new cammy is heavier, so it will be likley be same or slower than current model, I know toyota are tweaking the engine for the new model, but I doubt the new one will be as quick or any quicker than the current spec, which as a 4cyl I have found to be a pretty decent day-to-day drive if you don't care much for go.
  20. "Thats why I'm giving it heaps, to thin it out a little . Next time i'll try the fully synthetic, the Castrol 0w40 Formula R." Hey Lucio, go 2 rounds of the mobil1. you got the right weight for our cars IMO. When i first changed over to it, the car was sluggish and it drank 0.5L over 4,000 k's!! When I went for the second change at 10,000k it came back superb and really flexible up top.
  21. Oh, If thats nogo, then tell them to put your car back together as you need wheels, then they will prob rather just give you a buzzbox. :P
  22. My 2nd & 5th gear synchros were ex japan and took 6 weeks, but they ordered in advance. 3 weeks is pretty speedy, Really!! But they should have ordered the parts, if your car is under warranty INSIST on a loan car if it is going to be 3 weeks, they will have to cave in and give you one.
  23. That's a top idea!! If I had of thought of that, I would have suggested it, you could even match the gearstick.
