  1. I'm aware that their are coilovers that provide comfort comparable to stock systems. But usually the price is not as sensible thats all. Unless of course you stumble upon a bargain, which you should buy without hesitating at all.
  2. How much are you planning to spend on the install?? Remember that good quality connecting components adds up really really quickly
  3. How much are you willing to spend for this? How much money if you sold your car?? Sometimes pooling the money together should be able to allow you to get a much better car to start with. Like I just realised I spent close 6K on my car already, just depends on what your after thats all.
  4. I wouldn't call the G5 and the middle/higher end JL subs crappy. lol Anything below a boston G2 or Alpine type R sub would be considered crappy IMO
  5. Always be on the lookout for sales at autobarn, cause I picked up two K&N xtreme filters for $40 each. May as well add the filter cleaning products, so that people can clean their filters out?
  6. If you can put up with the bone jarring ride in a coilover system then go for it.... Coilovers are too hard for the street, and those so called 'adjustments' are not as soft as you think they are....
  7. normal DC5??? 118kw donk??? I would go for the non turbo supra, but then again I'm biased as I have always wanted a Supra (preferably a TT).
  8. It comes down to prority I suppose, and whether you would like to finance a car or not. I dunno about brand new boxster, but seconds hand ones can be had for around about 30-35k these days.
  9. When I redline the car, the engine is more louder then the muffler lol, this is with no CAI. Was driving it yesterday, and while its not a huge improvement over the S10 in terms of noise reduction. I feel like this one does allow the engine to spin more freely on the top end. I still haven't got my CAI put in, due to a damaged undercarriage splash guard.
  10. Mine is on the top hose as well, unless of course I remembered it wrong (size). Anyways, it was a rather tight fit for mine, no leaks etc. So all is good I suppose.
  11. If you are seriously into an SQ setup, then the staging and imaging of your speakers is the most important thing to consider. We are talking custom fibreglass pods that are angled properly, starting off with a nice quiet car is really important as well. If I had to point to you the directions on products to look for then Splits - Focal, Moral, Boston Acoustics, Rainbow...do an audition since you are throwing in so much money Subs - I wouldn't go with the Alpine Type X if what you are after is SQ. Boston acoustics G5, try the Digital designs range there not too bad, JL would be good too if they have recently updated their range (in the past three years) Amplifier - Audision gets another vote from me HU - I've been happy with alpine units as they are quite good
  12. A free way to get better throttle response is simply to adjust your throttle cable if its a bit loose :D
  13. Usually not much can be gained from a cat upgrade, let alone removing it all together. Not to mention its not good for the environment. Whats your current exhaust setup?? If its 2.5" catback, then unfortunately there is not much you can do. Unless of course you went with a restrictive muffler, (tri-flow, dog leg etc). My current setup is a 2.5" catback, with two hotdog resonators and the biggest oval muffler I could squeeze at the back (6 x 10 x 20 inch). Its still loud, but compared to a axle back canon its damn quiet.
  14. I just got a new muffler put into the sportivo. Its a berklee oval muffler. Dimensions are 6 x 10 x 20 inch for the muffler itself, the overall volume is a little bit bigger then the stock sportivo muffler. 2.5" inlet offset/offset. Cost me $240 with mandrel bent pipework, flange and stainless tip. Compared to the twinloop S10, its much quieter when cruising and it sounds exactly like stock when its idling. You wouldn't know its a modified exhaust until you saw the much larger then stock 2.5-3" tip at the end. Under load and WOT, the noise level is either the same or a little bit softer then the xforce S10. Still noisy in my opinion, but considering that its a competely straight through design, its is actually very quiet. So in summary - Sound levels comparable or lower then a X-force S10 - Not sure about an increase in performance, but assuming that a straight through is the way to go for a free flowing exhaust, it should in theory be better then an S10 - Price is about the same I suppose, but the berklee is mild steel, not stainless -
  15. The DIN gauge mount will not fit, unless your prepared for a bit of cutting and grinding. Welll if someone has been able to fit it, then please let me know. The one that Xoom uses is a defi single din mount, which fits perfectly. Cheers
  16. spose that all depends on the reonatoryou put in. Sounds like a good plan, atm I have 2 x 300mm resonator so the MP02 shouldnt be too bad. I've got two resonators as well, I've always been a bit hesistant with the MP02 as not many people seem to have them. So it was hard to get a feel of how loud/quiet it would be. I guess I'll have to make a decision by this weekend :D
  17. Hows the noise level on the MP02?? Drone on the highway??
  18. 1ZZFE is the engine code ZZE 12# would be the model/chasis code
  19. Let me know how you go with this. It was either the MP02, I think berklee have a 6 x 11 x 20" if your after some more sound suppression. But not sure about the difficulty in getting one installed. The tri-flow would give more superior sound suppression, only problem is that it will have higher restriction obviously. So if your after quiet then the tri-flow is the best that you can find. If your after performance, then offset straight through, with the biggest muffler body you can physically stick under there.
  20. Please tell me you are not doing this on public roads... Repeated heavy braking will mean that your brake fluid is overheating/boiling. so if your travelling 160km/hr and then braking hard, I would think that your brake pads are not up to the task and are overheating. Random hero is right though on the ST185 calipers, with that said ST204 calipers should work as well just neededing to adjust the offsets. I'm currently looking at St204 calipers for my starlet, and maybe at the same time I could dummy fit them on the sportivo and see what needs to be done to get it to fit properly. Stay tuned I suppose, a busy weekend coming up for me.
  21. Bah, I'am no expert, but I am a researcher :D I think with the ST202 twin pistons calipers they will bolt on, but may need to be milled a bit in order for them to sit central over the disc. You'll also need larger rotors, which in this case would be zze123 rotors. The ST185 twin piston calipers will bolt onto the zze12# corollas, but you'll need the zze122 disc (255mm). If you use the ST185 disc (255mm) you will need the holes to be redrilled to suit (5x100 vs 4x100 PDC).IMO you will notice a larger improvement with a larger disc then twin pistons on a smaller disc. I think maybe going with better disc then stock as well as a complete flush of your brake system with some good quality DOT5.1 fluid should help with the sponginess. May I ask you, under what kinda of conditions are your brakes failing to hold up??
  22. Why bother with chasing them for 20mins??? Petrol is pricey these days :D Just give them a few honks and be on your merry way. Its also good to keep some nice big long tools in your cars, just in case you blow a tyre so you need a nice 20" breaker bar for leverage to remove the nuts Now, if some stupid p-plater managed to damage my car on purpose then that is a completely different story...
  23. What muffler did you end up getting? I'm interested in the size and all that. Its a learning curve for me at the moment.
  24. In a nutshell, its apparantly the single bolt on mod that produces the highest power gain to date. Basically its a new intake manifold for the 2zzge. Most people know the general mods that are performed on most n/a engines. For the corolla, its usually in this order in terms of engine mods General mods CAI Exhaust Headers ECU You can then head towards Cams (which needs new uprated valve springs and valves for added reliability up top) Port and polishing Hi-Comp pistons Completed balanced bottom end and ancillaries Towards the later stages you won't get much of a power hike and you will be spending really big. Restriction could be head design and in this instances the manifolds appears to be a restriction as well. This intake manifold to date is showing very promising results, with up to 16kw (kinda corrected for the US over inflated figures) at the wheels. Which is huge in anyones terms for a 1.8L n/a engine. With the injectors, its been reported that its maxing out or running at almost full duty in 3rd (4th?? can't remember) gear during dyno runs. You need more fuel delivered once your producing considerably more power then stock. Stock injectors are at 315cc I believ on a 2zz, depending on which version (I remember a 330cc one as well).
