my grandfather is a diesel injection specialist, now semi retired and working just to keep himself 'busy' has asked me to get some info on the fuel pump and injectors in my 08 hilux sr kun26r which has done 142k ks. the problem im having is it is blowing massive amounts of thick black smoke when under load and high revs. ive spoken to a couple of toyota dealers and they wont give me any information, instead suggesting i bring it in to have all the injectors replaced by them (read: cha ching!) id rather not take it to a toyota dealer when my grandfather can remove the fuel pump and service the injectors. does anyone have any available data on the fuel injectors? <edit> forgot to mention, it knocks terribly upon startup when the engine is cold. damn near wake the whole neighbourhood up in the morning. from what i can gather, toyota recommend replacement injectors and a computer flash. pretty poor considering there is clearly a design issue at fault.
