  1. I don't know if it is the whole problem... Like any problem, fix one and a new one arises... It appears to be running OK now but the most recent problem is a HUGE shudder/vibration whilst accelerating... Time for a new car I reckon...
  2. Found it... Near the oil filter and accessible from underneath the car... Easy to change... But still have a problem so water pump next..... There is a strange electrical noise coming from somewhere when it gets a bit hot...
  3. Can anybody tell me where I can find the 'Thermostat' in my 1996 Tarago? By following the top hose, it appears as though it will be under the driver's seat... Do I need to take the driver's seat and floor pan out to access it, or do I just remove the plastic guard underneath the van and access it that way? Cheers.
  4. I had exactly the same problem with my Tarago with the rev's dropping (especially going around round-abouts) the van sometimes stalled. Under the front passenger seat, there is a thin black rubber hose (has something to do with the air). In the middle of the hose is a clear/white coloured 1 way valve. I used to now and then pull the valve out and flush it with CRC/RP7 ensuring I blow out excess CRC. That went well for a while but last time I took it to the mechanic, he removed the valve completely so the hose goes straight through now... FIXED IT COMPLETELY... Also went from getting 450km's to 600km's from each tank of fuel.
  5. It is using water... Keep filling it up but dont know where it's going (I'm assuming it is coming out of the overflow).... No pressure to cap when cold... Cannot smell petrol/oil in the coolant. when it comes out, it is still a pink colour with no dark tints. Think a compression test is the way to go tho... It it is a headgasket (but no milkshake in the oil), is there a fair bit of cost involved with repairs??
  6. How can I tell if my head gasket has gone on my Tarago? I thought usually that the oil is cloudy but that is not the case... The van just overheats all the time and spits out all the coolant!
  7. I have read other "overheating topics" but needed to add my own to explain other symptoms for my 1996 Tarago. * The temperature guage always sits just over half way and never goes to the red. * If I fill the radiator tank to the required level, it heats up and spits out all coolant out of the tank, * Today when I turned on heater, there was a 'banging/clunking' noise coming from under the bonnet. * If the van is stone cold (outside temp 5 degrees C), within 1 km the temp guage is half way and heater appears to be working a treat... * Exhaust sometimes smells like burnt gassy water and sometimes blows whiteish smoke... * OIL is not cloudy and is a good colour/level but sometimes I smell burnt oil smell... I am contemplating changing the thermostat but now I don't know what the problem could be??? I am assuming the thermostat is under the drivers seat, can anyone tell me if I need to take the drivers seat & floor pan out to change it?

    fuel filter

I have recently changed my fuel filter on my 1996 Tarago... It was located on the passenger side and can be seen/accessed via the passenger seat engine viewing hole. It is not a clear plastic filter like other vehicles, it is a chrome cylinder. Maybe have a look at what a new one looks like first then look for it... It is a bit tricky to access but it is easier from underneath the vehicle.
