  1. G'day all, I have an '83 RN41 2wd Hilux into which I'm putting a 5 speed box out of an '87 Hilux. Not sure which box it is, some people tell me G52 some say W52. I'm also putting a KUN26 rear diff centre with 3.58:1 gearing. With the cable driven speedo what driven gears are available? How do I calculate which driven gear I need? I haven't chosen wheels and tires yet so that will give me some wiggle room. This is all part of a Commodore V6 conversion and I'd like to get the right driven gear in before I install the engine and box. I'm hoping to keep the original instrument cluster for that 'Retro' look. Thanks for reading, any info appreciated.
  2. I have a 1983 RN41 2wd Hilux. On advice from another member I now have a 3.58 : 1 diff centre from a KUN26. Can someone point me too instructions on rebuilding bearings etc. in the old assembly and fitting the new centre. Happy to pay for a workshop manual if that covers everything. Thanks,
  3. So your saying I just change over the diff centre? If only the flanges are different would it be worth just buying the flanges from Toyota or is it cheaper to just buy the whole shaft from the wreckers? I'll start hunting around the wreckers, slim pickings here in Darwin so I'll probably have to freight the parts up. Any suggestions for where to source parts? Thanks,
  4. I have an '83 2wd RN41 Hilux. The diff code on the compliance plate is G102. This means (I hope) it has an 8 inch crown wheel, 4.375 : 1 ratio and 2 pinion open centre. I also have a 3.8L Commodore V6, 5 speed Toyota G52 gearbox and an adaptor kit to make it all fit. I'm starting at the rear of the vehicle and working forward. I believe Toyota made some 3.7 : 1 diff centres for their V6's. The diff leaks and I have a rebuild kit for it. While I've got it open I'd like to change the centre to a ratio that will suit the V6. The 3Y engine and 3 speed auto used to scream at 80kms. I've never worked on a diff before but I think with the help of a service manual and YouTube I can get thru it if I can source the right parts. What would be a good ratio and where can I get a replacement centre? I'm building a work ute, not a show pony or racer. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks for reading. Ps. The speed limit on the highway here is 130kph so I'd like to be able to cruise at that speed for long periods.
  5. G'day again all, Just dug out the spare key and it works with a bit of a jiggle. So now I know it's the door lock. I'll start looking around for a new set of key locks. Sorry for wasting your time and answering my own question. Keep up the good work all, and thanks for reading.
  6. G'day all, My Mrs has a 2002 Corolla four door sedan. It does not have keyless entry. The key will no longer turn in the driver's door to unlock. We can lock the car with the key and the central locking works, but when we try to unlock the driver door the key will not turn. We have to unlock the passenger door with the key and lean over to the button on the interior drivers door. The central locking does not work either from the passenger door keylock or the button on the driver's door (not sure if it should, never checked before). I'm not sure if it's the keylock at fault or the central locking switch stuck. I would like to have the correct part ready to go before removing the door skin so I only have to do it once. Anyone have a similar problem or know which part would be at fault? Thanks for reading
  7. G'day again, Been looking around the forums at all the diff posts and even more confused now. I read about a supercharged 3.8L Hilux with a 4.08:1 diff and figured if it worked for him....... I really need to talk to a professional. I'm in Darwin, any diff specialists close by that know old Toyotas?

  9. G'day all, I have an '83 RN41 2wd Hilux. I also have a Commodore V6 and Toyota five speed box with bell housing and mount kit. The original diff centre is probably close to 3:1. With the V6 I reckon I'll need about 4:1. Where can I source a diff centre that will fit? Would like to check out the wreckers but the first thing they will ask is what model car it's off. Does anyone know where I can find a list of compatible vehicles or even of a diff specialist that can help? Any info would be appreciated, thanks for reading.
  10. G'day all, I have an 83 2wd Hilux into which someone has put a 3Y motor. When I took the carby off I noticed it was too big for the manifold. The spacer plate between the carby and manifold hangs over the edge of the manifold and has been redrilled to bolt the oversize carby base to it. I want to get a 3Y converted Weber carby from Recarb and need to know it will fit to the manifold. I think it's probably a 3Y manifold with the old 18R carby attached to it but I need to be sure. Does anyone know what the hole spacing is on top of the 3Y manifold so I can check? Any help will be appreciated, Thanks for reading
  11. G'day all, I have an 83 Hilux RN41. These utes came out with an 18R but at some stage someone has dropped a 3Y into mine. It also has a 3 speed auto which looks like it has been converted to floor shift from column shift. I have a 5 speed manual box from a later model 3Y powered Hilux on order. I have read online that the 5 speed is a longer box and that the gearbox crossmember will need to be moved. With the 3Y in it I'm not sure what mods have already been done. Once I get the engine and gearbox out how do I tell what mods will be necessary? I'm expecting the new gearbox to arrive in about a month and would like to have any mods finished by then so I can drop it in. Also I'll need measurements to take to the fabricator so I dont need to transport the engine and gearbox to them as well. Any help would be appreciated.
